This is by far the best golf review I ever watched! I am really really interested in getting an automatic 2016 golf tsi. But I am kind of hesitated since I heard some complains on the reliability of VW cars and I have zero experience with VW cars. I look forward to your updates on your golf after driving it for a while. Thanks Danny!
Danny! I've watched probably every video on UA-cam about the 2016 vw golf and yours is the first one I've commented on, really liked your video man thanks for making it. I am really interested in getting a Golf myself this year (waiting on the new Chevy Cruze to be available so i can test drive it) I drove a Golf a few weeks ago and came away really impressed it would be really cool if you made other videos about your Golf ie: maybe a 3 months later review or something since you're probably approching the time for your first service like oil and stuff like that. Looking forward to seeing more vids, great job and congrats on the new car
+raleighman3000 That is weird. Dodge Dart's used to be very lame. But I guess they are trying harder now that they realized everyone else is upping their game.
Loved the review! Thanks for this, agree with other comments that there aren't enough base model/average user car reviews on youtube. This made my car shopping a lot easier and I ended up buying the exact same model/color (but automatic, been driving 15 years manual and I needed a change).
Great perspective. I too am looking at the Fit. Also the XV, Countryman, and HR-V. So far the TSI is leading the way, especially after watching your review. Next- time to take one for a drive!
FINALLY someone who reviewed the base model. Had to get ride of my 06 GTI 1.8t and was looking for some sort of reference before hitting up the dealership. Thank you!
Thanks for reviewing the base model, and a manual. Have been thinking of this, the Sportwagon and GTI. Have not driven them yet, but you have moved me back to the less expensive base model.
I own a 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TSI with about 1,500 miles (had it for almost 3 months) and to date my city and hwy. fuel economy avg. 29 mpg. This was a good video with some humor every so often which made it even better. Good video and keep up the good work! By the way you have good taste in cars!
AMAZING review!! You did such a wonderful job! You were fun, entertaining, clear diction, great use of additional pictures, great use of varying camera angles. Superb video!! And you're making me want one! : )
Haha, I almost thought it was a joke when it popped up in my subbed list. But nonetheless, it's a pretty good review, good job on changing to multiple different shots to keep it visually diverse.
I just bought one and was so frustrated that I couldn't find the mileage marker, thanks for saving me with that. Also, good job, you're pretty entertaining as well! hah
Great review! I have a 2016 Jetta S with a same 5 speed manual but it has the 1.4 TSI. Even though it's a small engine it has plenty of torque. I am thinking in the next year to replace it and lease a Golf S with the 1.8 TSI and 5 speed manual. Thanks for doing an honest thorough review!
Excellent review. Just bought one of these the other day. So far so good! Still getting used to the tall gearing that is dramatically different than my previous car.
+Danny Pops why? unless you were getting the diesel for enviormental issues only, vw lying doesn't take away from the fact that it has great mpg and touque
Excellent review! I'm planning on purchasing a 2017 GSW with the same 1.8 TSI engine and 5-spd manual transmission combination. Your review has really helped. Thanks!
Hey Danny, I am researching about this car recently. all the reviews seem great and all. Yours was really fun! but one thing I need to ask is the steering wheel feel at speed faster than 60+ MPH. Is it soft and does it moves easily? or is it stiff/firm (very little maneuver needed). thanks for your video.
Nice review Danny! I have a 2015 "S" with automatic and sunroof, and I've really enjoyed it. I have a 2016 Jetta GLI on order and can't wait to get it! Keep up the good work!
I just watched again 10 months later and I'm in a very similar boat ... I owned a 2007 Honda Fit and now I'm considering a 2016 Golf or 2016 Fit. Very helpful review. Thanks!
I got exactly the same car as yours on Nov 2014. It's already 50k km, just can't stop driving it. I am glad to my decision since then. Totally all-around balanced and refined on everything. What a fantastic car from VW ! Enjoy your mk7 Golf.
+raleighman3000 I also owned mk6 since 2010 (2.5l manual 5 speed).Gear ratio ? I prefer mk6, you feel stronger almost on each gear. Secondly steering : you feel better (specifically when ur on straight roads). The tires are same size same Continental but mk6 tires are made in Germany, mk7 tires are made in Mexico. (I strongly believe those tires make at different rubber compounds.) Remainings ? mk7 really better than mk6 on almost everything. Reliability ? maybe mk6 is better (no Turbo), enjoy ur Golf it is a good car.
+raleighman3000 I misreading ur 2002 to 2012, sorry about that. 20 years ago I owned 95 mk3 for 15 years, 650k km, I have no problems with it.(it was made in Mexico).Number of gears ? you don't really need 6 gears, gear ratio is more important (except Golf R or GTI). It's my opinion.
Very thorough review! I'm interested in the 2016 Golf SportWagen TSI S manual and this is the closest vehicle that I could find an accurate review for. Most reviews I found are for the auto trans.
Thanks nice review, I have a 2015 Golf S. The only option that i have or want is the automatic transmission, because of my disabled legs. Love it and also love my Mk6 Golf.
6th gear is only used to help increase mpg. This car doesn't have one because the 1.8tsi gets great mpg as it is. Another gear would cost more and be a little heavier and not worth the price you get out of it in mpg with this particular engine.
Danny, I just bought a 2017 Golf S identical to yours -- platinum gray and manual transmission. I couldn't be happier. And actually, I think the base model is incredible. I didn't really notice it to be that much slower than the GTI, which I also test drove prior to purchasing the Golf S, and it is much more practical for city streets, absorbing bumps much better than the GTI. I'm also impressed with fuel economy, not that much lower than my previous Golf TDI. Thanks for your review.
Truly these are special vehicles. I know they're just cars, but dang it, VW knows how to build great cars with great designs that do everything they're supposed to superbly! When I was considering what I might purchase outside of VW group, nothing measured up. I'm glad VW survived this diesel scandal and they have much work to do, but I'm pleased with what I'm seeing thus far! Thanks, Danny!
Danny! Thank you for a great review. Ive been looking everywhere for a decent review on this car. I to had a bmw and it's a chore to drive, so hearing you say that I am confident I am making the right choice. Thank you so much, you did a great job and you are hilarious.
Wicked Review! I bought this car two weeks ago .. except mine is in night blue. One cool feature worth mentioning is the drawer underneath the driver's seat .. great place to hide your stuff!
Great review ! How much room in the back, with seats down? And what are the RPMs at 70 mph ? I'm an owner of an 04 Forester, manual. Cant go much over 60mph, without it sounding like it wants to blow up. Thanks
Nice review, I'm currently waiting on my 2016 Volkswagen Golf 92TSI (pretty sure it's exactly the same as yours except I'm getting mine in Australia). I haven't watched any of your other videos, but I really like this review, you've done well :)
This model looks like the trend line I think it might be a little different with the blue motion added and the duel climate control 92tsi is a comfort line
Lucky you! Here a base model Golf is equipped with a 1.0TSI engine, 115hp 200Nm. It sounds worse than it is but still a 2.0TSI in a base!!! what a steal!
That's cool that you can get the sunroof as an add on to the base model. Here in Canada, it goes trendline, comfortline and highline and you have to get the comfortline which has the leatherette seats in order to add the sunroof and it comes in a package with multiple other features so you can't get it alone...
Hey really great review! My fiancé just got a '16 golf and she (and I) absolutely love it. I currently have a '10 GTI which I've had since new. Though I love the extra 30 horses my 2.0 turbo has but it honestly doesn't feel a whole lot faster than this new "normal" golf. Plus the fact you can get the 4 dr in a stick shift kind of makes me want to get a '16 golf of my own! I agree on the interior as well it's very sporty but in a subtle sort of way. Props to VW for giving it a flat bottom steering wheel, that's cool! Anyway you should definite it do more reviews that was really good. You have a unique presentation style I think a lot of people would really like : )
Fellow Golf lovers: you like black fabric or beige for a new Golf purchase? I've had both. Leaning toward trusty black. (I despise leather and leatherette, btw).
+raleighman3000 Went for black as well. Black in my previous Golf (2005 mk4) too. I am way too messy and would, FOR SURE, at some point drop food, coffee, soda or something on the seats. And if it's a brand new car and the seats are beige cloth, I would likely cry.
Good review... I would add that the 2016 (over the 2015 model) comes with a rear view camera as well (the VW logo on the back hatch pivots to show/activate the camera). Also note my comment below on the torque ratings (Man vs. Auto)
cool little review mate and diggin the shirt ;) n not to rub it in but we get the 6speed manual in Australia woohoo, pick up my brand new one on wednesday! xcited
im curious how necessary the 6 speed is though. if you are not a bigtime "speeder" is 6th gear really a thing? i had a 5 spd 2002 Golf and never noticed any highway issue even while speeding somewhat.
Hey, thank you for the video. I am looking for my next car as soon as VW completes the buyback of my Jetta TDI. I've been looking at the Honda Civic due to its reliability and performance, but honestly the VW dealer I get service at is so impressive and enjoyable, I am reluctant to leave them. So the Golf just may be the car that keeps me at my favorite dealer of all time.
I enjoyed watching this. I'm set to pick up mine soon. Would love if you did a tips and tricks video. Ie the secrets of the keys, and tricks I have read about the visors
I had a couple Saab turbos before Saab Scania became defunct. Thanks(partly to your review) bought a 2018 SE a few years ago. It's been flawless, and as you said, mature and understated. If my memory isn't completely fried it's faster than the Saabs and Peugeot turbodiesel I had.As for the power seaback, maybe VW finally realized their round hand cranks were a PITA.You'd have to lean forward then twist the knob backward-pretty laborious.
I am looking to buy one of these with a stick shift. I have a 2000 Jetta Manual with 205K on a original clutch, so people concerned about reliability, I can tell you the are tanks. My parents have 2 2007 Jettta's and both have close to 100k and not one problem with either.. I keep 2 cars around and always have 1 of them be a Manual Transmission. I am 45 and always drove Manual only up until a few years ago when I added a Auto. I can't stop driving a stick but I find having a Auto for heavy traffic commuting is also nice, so the best of both worlds is what I am after.
This is so weird, I noticed you didn't have the heated seats options! However, I also bought the 2016 base model and it came with it! Matter of location?
Where I live in EU, there's no 1.8 TSI option for the Golf. Apart from the GTI, the largest gas engine is the 150 hp 1.4 TSI. Base is a 1.2 TSI with 85 hp, but there's even a 3 cylinder 1.0 TSI (115 hp) which costs more than the 1.2 as it only comes with the BlueMotion package.
Right now if you are looking for a used car these are competing with the base civic, mazda3 and chevy cruze. Definitely seems like the best choice if you don't mind the more expensive services.
Nice work for your 1st review... Concise, entertaining, yet you hit all the key notes. I am between thus, the Mazda3, and new Civic... tough choices. The TSI has the advantage of Android Auto in base version where Honda requires EX trim or above and Mazda does not offer this feature in any trim.
+PhilemonXIV Exactly why I'm leaning towards the Golf. I wanted (1) Manual, (2) Android Auto. I walked into the Honda dealership, asked to drive a manual Civic with Android Auto...they told me it didn't exist. I turned around and left. :D
I am an owner of a 1.4 tsi ( europe). After barely 5000km ( no typo ) my engine starts shaking when running idle. While I find it self-evident that an engine runs smoothly, VW disagree and refuses to fix the problem, even when the car is still under warranty. I'm shocked.
WHAT A WONDERFULLY ENTERTAINING REVIEW. There's many a good jokes to come out of you, which I know you're dying to tell but, but stay composed; listen to your conscience as you are.. Actually the shirt says it all I should of known what to expect. Thumbs up btw. Nice car too.
Nice review. Always liked the VW rabbit/golf from the early 80's on. But never owned one. Seat comfort is one thing I think many cars have actually gotten worse at doing & unfortunately its something you don't notice until hours in a car.
First person I've ever heard compliment VW's reverse lockout design. I owned 3 VW's with 5-speeds. I was fine with it, but most hate it. I assume when you said you had "unleaded" in it, you meant Regular (87 octane). All gasoline in the USA has been unleaded since like the early 80's.
nice review. i have a 2015 TSI S 2 door also with the manual. Mine doesnt have android auto/ apple car play but (strangely) is has leatherette seats. its great car, especially for the price
Agreed. I have the 2015 Passat S manual, same engine. On the larger Passat, it is still a powerful engine. I took it on a trip from the midwest to the east coast, and yes you can sleep in that reclined position. I also hit 40+ mpg a couple of times in the averages. We have a different final drive, so my car only does about 68mph @2,000 rpm while yours will do 80 mph @2,000 in fifth. I consider it a 4 speed with an overdrive. The TDIs (diesel) don't rev as high so they get a 6 speed.
I don't understand an automatic transmission for ANY size car if there is a real driver running it. I still have a hard time liking the hatchback (reminds me of a Horizon, a terrible econobox) but everything else about the Golf is very nice.
Alex Holland thanks yeah 2016 6 speed too has it. However, it is not an indefinite hold just for 2-3 seconds. Besides, it doesn't work in all slopes only when it is a bit steep. I think, Golf R has indefinite hold.
Thank you for reviewing the base model! The big reviewers always get the fancy models.
base models rule
The base model of this car has most features of a higher end model at a great price... I was very impressed so I bought one :)
Volkswagen owes you my friend. You just sold me on the 2016 Golf. Seriously.
Still have it?
This is by far the best golf review I ever watched! I am really really interested in getting an automatic 2016 golf tsi. But I am kind of hesitated since I heard some complains on the reliability of VW cars and I have zero experience with VW cars. I look forward to your updates on your golf after driving it for a while. Thanks Danny!
you should really do more car reviews! this was great, especially for someone whos never done it before. laughed and learned everything i wanted to
i had a 2002 Golf. solid and awesome. test drove my bro's late 90's Civic and wanted to cry. long live Golf!
Nice comparison lmao. Take a more fresh civic and then see
+ILithuaniaI i know the new civic is very good.
Thanks for reviewing the S trim! This is my favorite review for this car that I've seen. That dent sound effect in the start was perfect.
I've decided on the 1.4 tsi petrol match edition in metallic tungsten silver, which comes loaded with extras. it arrives Monday, can't wait.
Congrats
Danny! I've watched probably every video on UA-cam about the 2016 vw golf and yours is the first one I've commented on, really liked your video man thanks for making it. Looking forward to seeing more vids, great job and congrats on the new car
+sora1223 thanks man! I think I will do a quickie like that. Been driving it all across the country.
u know a car i rented that i weirdly liked was the new dodge dart with the more powerful engine. great handling, peppy, good interior..
+raleighman3000 That is weird. Dodge Dart's used to be very lame. But I guess they are trying harder now that they realized everyone else is upping their game.
+Danny Pops I saw dodge darts in a few top 10 worst cars to buy lists. Be aware.
did you decide on the golf?
Loved the review! Thanks for this, agree with other comments that there aren't enough base model/average user car reviews on youtube. This made my car shopping a lot easier and I ended up buying the exact same model/color (but automatic, been driving 15 years manual and I needed a change).
Great perspective. I too am looking at the Fit. Also the XV, Countryman, and HR-V. So far the TSI is leading the way, especially after watching your review. Next- time to take one for a drive!
awesome choice of attire for a car review & i very much enjoyed the whole thing. (:
FINALLY someone who reviewed the base model. Had to get ride of my 06 GTI 1.8t and was looking for some sort of reference before hitting up the dealership. Thank you!
Now I know why this video had more reviews than any of the other options. Super helpful, thanks! I may be getting my own '16 Golf tomorrow.
By the way you have good taste in cars!
auto or stick?
Someone give this guy a job reviewing cars.. he’s better than most pros
Good job. Nice to see the other side of the pond getting wise to the golf. It really is the perfect car. Manual: good choice!
AMAZING review!! You did such a wonderful job! You were fun, entertaining, clear diction, great use of additional pictures, great use of varying camera angles. Superb video!! And you're making me want one! : )
It's been almost one year now, any words on reliability of this golf?
I have one and it has been flawless.
Haha, I almost thought it was a joke when it popped up in my subbed list. But nonetheless, it's a pretty good review, good job on changing to multiple different shots to keep it visually diverse.
even tho I can understand why some people would find this video doesn't fit this channel. still a good review.
I really like everything about this car. This car looks great and the color is absolutely right. It's a really really nice car. Manual......of course!
Excellent review. Just bought one of these the other day. So far so good! Still getting used to the tall gearing that is dramatically different than my previous car.
I just drove my 2016 Golf-S for first time..
For such a tiny engine it is pretty quick out of the gate..
Very pleased.
Great time for Volkswagen, great time for the VW Golf review Danny ;)
+Matt S I KNOW!!! Good thing I don't have the diesel cause I almost got one. :)
+Danny Pops why? unless you were getting the diesel for enviormental issues only, vw lying doesn't take away from the fact that it has great mpg and touque
+ImEnhalos I've got Toyota instead :p
+Danny Pops i loathe diesel, but u would have been fine.
I'm actually considering buying exchanging my 2014 Subaru Forester for this. Is there any problem this car? Or should I wait for a 2017 model?
The 2017 one gets even more features now it's a hell of a deal too for the price!
Excellent review! I'm planning on purchasing a 2017 GSW with the same 1.8 TSI engine and 5-spd manual transmission combination. Your review has really helped. Thanks!
Great review! I love my 2013 Golf and will definitely be purchasing another Golf or GTI in the future.
my wife just bought the same in 6 speed automatic. we using only regular fuel. it is very nimble. I like this car even at the base model.
I love this video. I am getting a golf soon and I keep watching this because I'm so excited
I have the exact same car in blue. Same model year, too. It's just so classy and timeless. It's got the classiest interior of any $20k car.
Nice review Danny! I have a 2015 "S" with automatic and sunroof, and I've really enjoyed it. I have a 2016 Jetta GLI on order and can't wait to get it! Keep up the good work!
im torn on manual or auto for 2016 1.8T.
if the preGTI engine is in the new mk7 golf then why is it 1.8T? fuel injectors and downgraded ECU?
great review. that was a pretty refreshing car review video. Well done!
I just watched again 10 months later and I'm in a very similar boat ... I owned a 2007 Honda Fit and now I'm considering a 2016 Golf or 2016 Fit. Very helpful review. Thanks!

Nice review, I'm currently waiting on my 2016 Volkswagen Golf 92TSI (pretty sure it's exactly the same as yours except I'm getting mine in Australia). I haven't watched any of your other videos, but I really like this review, you've done well :)

yeah, the gti seems less needed now that golf has the 170 hp turbo.
+raleighman3000 APR makes a tune for up to 256hp for the new MQB 1.8 T engine. well worth it compared to the GTI price.
+mike hub thx. when buy again, i might do that after warranty expires lol
Fellow Golf lovers: you like black fabric or beige for a new Golf purchase? I've had both. Leaning toward trusty black. (I despise leather and leatherette, btw).

Dude. Extremely entertaining and informative review. I had at least 3 legit audible laughs. Fine work! :)
Dude you’re hilarious! The part where the camera fell down was the best! 😂
Great review! I just purchased a Golf Variant 1,4 TGI 2016. I am very pleased with it.
i guess variant means sportwagen
+raleighman3000 yep. Variant, Avant, Estate, Wagon, Long roof, Sport Brake, so many names.
cool little review mate and diggin the shirt ;) n not to rub it in but we get the 6speed manual in Australia woohoo, pick up my brand new one on wednesday! xcited

+Brendan Kent gotcha
So glad they have the electronic seat recline now. On my 2008 Rabbit, it's a dial and it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get the seat back.
To get leatherette o I need to get a higher model?
I enjoyed watching this. I'm set to pick up mine soon. Would love if you did a tips and tricks video. Ie the secrets of the keys, and tricks I have read about the visors
Is the passenger airbag light still always on?
When there is no one in it....i mean ?
always
I had a couple Saab turbos before Saab Scania became defunct. Thanks(partly to your review) bought a 2018 SE a few years ago. It's been flawless, and as you said, mature and understated. If my memory isn't completely fried it's faster than the Saabs and Peugeot turbodiesel I had.As for the power seaback, maybe VW finally realized their round hand cranks were a PITA.You'd have to lean forward then twist the knob backward-pretty laborious.
Nice guy. Honest. Simple
And i love golf
I am looking to buy one of these with a stick shift. I have a 2000 Jetta Manual with 205K on a original clutch, so people concerned about reliability, I can tell you the are tanks. My parents have 2 2007 Jettta's and both have close to 100k and not one problem with either.. I keep 2 cars around and always have 1 of them be a Manual Transmission. I am 45 and always drove Manual only up until a few years ago when I added a Auto. I can't stop driving a stick but I find having a Auto for heavy traffic commuting is also nice, so the best of both worlds is what I am after.
Good to hear, I'm buying this exact car except in blue in a few days
Supposedly the Golf's with manual transmissions only have 184 ft-lb of torque (the Automatics have 199).
This is so weird, I noticed you didn't have the heated seats options! However, I also bought the 2016 base model and it came with it! Matter of location?
this was really fun and informative!
Sweet ride man. Excellent review!
great review! I have a 2015 and I love it so much it hurts.
How's the maintenance and up keep been for your Golf? I'm definitely interested in getting one.
Where I live in EU, there's no 1.8 TSI option for the Golf. Apart from the GTI, the largest gas engine is the 150 hp 1.4 TSI. Base is a 1.2 TSI with 85 hp, but there's even a 3 cylinder 1.0 TSI (115 hp) which costs more than the 1.2 as it only comes with the BlueMotion package.
for christs sake dont biy diesel. i loathe diesels.
Is there still leaded gas. Thanks, good video.
Well done. You could be the next Saabkyle.
Great video dude! Thanks for the comments!
Pretty good man. You've conceived me! Plus my heart was saying GO VW, but my brain was like Honda....
hondas are for wimps lol
The new Civic also has a really wimpy horn - it sounds like the Road Runner.
Great review! you should do more of these. You go trhu all the essential in a funny way! thanks... I think I'll go get one too!
very nice video bro, congratulations, beautiful car
First person I've ever heard compliment VW's reverse lockout design. I owned 3 VW's with 5-speeds. I was fine with it, but most hate it.
I assume when you said you had "unleaded" in it, you meant Regular (87 octane). All gasoline in the USA has been unleaded since like the early 80's.
nice review. i have a 2015 TSI S 2 door also with the manual. Mine doesnt have android auto/ apple car play but (strangely) is has leatherette seats. its great car, especially for the price
Wish someone would review the 2017 base model..
Nice Review! Thanks.
great review. thanks for posting. you should do more of these.
great video, nicely filmed, good presentation... although I am curious as to why you drove it on a dirt track in a field ha ha
Daddy Poops needs a wardrobe consultant
All car videos should be like this!
I have the white 2016 TSI match edition 1.4. It’s lovely 🥰
great timing! anyway great review, as always :)
great review. thinking about picking me up one with the sunroof though.
The TDIs (diesel) don't rev as high so they get a 6 speed.
i dont understand manual for a bigger car but i do for the golf.
2000 RPM at 80 sounds excellent. glad to hear that i wont miss a sixth gear if i buy this golf.
I don't understand an automatic transmission for ANY size car if there is a real driver running it. I still have a hard time liking the hatchback (reminds me of a Horizon, a terrible econobox) but everything else about the Golf is very nice.
They both do about 2200rpm at 70.
Good review, covers all main items needed
Great review. Does this have a hill assist?
Yes it does...I own a 2016 5 speed so I speak from experience :)
Alex Holland thanks yeah 2016 6 speed too has it. However, it is not an indefinite hold just for 2-3 seconds. Besides, it doesn't work in all slopes only when it is a bit steep. I think, Golf R has indefinite hold.
What the fuel economy like?. Per L/100km city and highway/freeway
