the old man dying is still probably my favorite scene in any movie ever. its such a simple and quick scene, but his reaction is delivered so perfectly

When I first saw this scene I thought I was going to have an aneurism. I was laughing so hard that I started gurgling and choking. Funniest scene in any movie ever
Plus think about it, he was probably put there as a child, living in total darkness, only being dropped cans of SMEAT and talking to the Decon every now and then.
A few seconds of burning seems like bargain in my opinion.

Kevin Costner's character has the superhuman ability to find the perfect length of rope for the task at hand. Three times he needed a length of rope and each time it was a perfectly judged length.

One of my favorite childhood movies. I never understood why critics hate it. Kevin Costner was amazing in this.
I find it hard to believe that the critics treats this epic movie so harsh. This movie is like Mad Max but set in the ocean. One of Kevin Costner's best performance!
This movie actually ageed better than expected considering how bland movies have gotten. It's not like movies of today are poorly made, they've just gotten kinda similar to eachother you know?
Thanks to Kevin, it went over budget so many times, it set a new record, so, hardly his best film.
@@hakont.4960 Especially the Disney Marvel and Star Wars films. Most of them are bland, safe, carefully managed studio productions. You rarely get the sense the filmmakers are out on the edge taking any risks at all. Waterworld was an insane risk.

There's a whole generation of under 25s now adore this film because its 90% practical stunts and full scale model effects, compared to the cgi garbage we get now. It got savaged over its budget and is far better than it gets credit for. It was the tie in media that killed this film, and definitely definitely would work so well now days in the eco centric climate of our modern world.

When I saw “Exxon Valdez” I laughed so hard because I know that ship & it’s oil spill. “Oh saint Joe we’re close” HA!
Also the town of Valdez, AK Which ironically was affected by that oil spill.
This movie and plot is brilliant. I've always loved this movie and I don't understand why it was lambasted by the 'critics'...

Dennis Hopper has always been an outstanding character regardless of the script. Case in point, Easy Rider and Space Truckers.😎

I watched this movie so many times back in the day.
Of course, I was working at Scout camp at the time, and the only four movies we had (on VHS, before DVD was a thing. Yes, I'm old) were:
Waterworld
Starship Troopers
The Blues Brothers
Red Dawn, the good one from the '80s.
A film ahead of its time.

I disagree. If it was ahead of it's time, it would be CGI garbage. It's right in its time.
This was my personal favorite action sequence, and it's looks fantastic in 4K.
6:47 The Exxon Valdez gag got a big laugh in our theatre. Made up for me being the only person to laugh at the "Saint Joe" joke.

In 2012 sci-fi was planning to make a tv show of Waterworld but the project was turned down
Hey, guess what? Looks like we're getting our sequel after all! Collider just revealed that a sequel streaming series is in the works that takes place twenty years after the movie and will apparently feature some of the same characters!

Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular brought me here when I was little.
Absolutely love the Water World. It's an epic movie of all time. May be it's a start but consider how much rains will it come to cover the entire Earth? The only thing is scary is there is no land to sleep and no water to drink. And I love when they say you are not crazy and he actually dropped the torch. And the old guy says "Oh Thank God". haha

7:46 what was the bad guys' plan if Costner had NOT snatched the kid out of the water? They were still heading toward a three way crash, killing themselves and the kid.
And I feel the need to write out the ending of this film:
Three villains on jet-skis race toward a helpless child floating in the water.
The hero bungee-jumps off a hot air balloon toward the child.
The hero grabs the child and springs away, as the three villains collide and burst into a massive explosion.
Someone WROTE THAT in a script!
It looks a lot more like Bruckheimer than Kubrick, that's for sure. 😅

I live for scenes like this, where the hero does something so crazy that the villain realizes he NEVER knew what he was dealing with.

I always wondered how these people could be so freaking dirty and being surrounded by water!
One of the many things why this film was a failure. It was made in the wrong time, and directed by the wrong guy. It looks way too silly. If they were going for the Mad Max theme, they failed miserably.
Critics tore it down because "most expensive film ever is actually really good" isn't a story. "Most expensive film ever is a turkey"...that's a story.
Their problem if they can't appreciate good movies.
