“In the end Peavy ended up like a lot of promising pitching figures...” um... no. Peavy won a Cy Young, 2x World Series and earned over $120M! That’s a fantastic career! I’m sure Mark Prior would have give his right nut for half that (just to make a comparison)
Prior really had the makings of a Franchise pitcher. Had he had a full, mostly healthy 12 yr career or so, he could have gone down as one of the greats. Kerry Wood can also be packaged with Prior....man...the Cubs had a scary 1-2 for a minute
He had a gold glove too, and he still had a great career despite a brutal mid-career injury... This video is confusing. Guy is acting like Peavy should have been elite for 20 years or something. He was a superstar and then had a late career renaissance when he had no right being as good as he was in his 30s.
@@stevedematteo3933 Thank Dusty Baker for running them into the ground. It's true they were injury prone already, but Baker made it much worse.
Yeah 0-2 with an era over 9 really helped his teams win those WS. Also if you want to compare how great a player was with the amount of money they've earned let's talk about Chris Davis.
@@Bigwheel414 What has Chris Davis won outside of a silver slugger and like 2 hr titles? Jake won the CY young twice and a pitchers triple crown
Peavy was elite for a pretty long time. I don't think he will get into the Hall...but he will be for sure one of the best non Hall of Fame pitchers ever
Of which honestly there are many.
I honestly can't choose between Peavy's most dominant season as a padre vs Kevin Brown's best season as a Padre.
Peavy is a legend to us Red Sox fans because after the WS win he bought one of the duck boats.
Yea he bought the duck boat for 75K so all his family could ride in the World Series parade. He is about to put it behind left field of his wiffle ball field he’s building behind his pub in downtown Mobile. We have a wiffle ball league at one of his other bars. He is a good dude
I'm glad you did a video on Jake Peavy. I became a white sox fan in 2010 and he was definitely one of my favorite pitchers alongside Mark Buerhle and Chris Sale. Everytime I play mlbtheshow I always chose #44 as my created player.
The White Sox have had some great pitchers in the past decade, it's a shame Peavy wasn't much better. At least all the prospects the White Sox gave up were pretty much busts.
Peavy was a dominant pitcher in MLB 09 the show and that’s pretty much where I learned everything about him, one of my favorite players ever
He tore his whole lat. That’s what happened lol. Remember when he won the triple crown? Also, remember when the Padres had Peavy, C. Young, and Greg Maddox leading the line up? Wish we had some hitting that year, could’ve destroyed the playoffs.
My father was in the Navy, and we moved back to the States in 2005 and were stationed in San Diego. I became a Padres fan during that time. Their best chance at a World Series was that 2005-2006 team that lost to the Cards 3-1.
Growing up in Mobile, Alabama I got to see Jake's entire career I played against him in high school, he was dominant. A few years later he was playing minor league ball in front of his hometown of Mobile for the AA club the Mobile BayBears I always knew he was going to be a great pitcher.
I loved Peavys intensity on the mound while he played in Boston! Josh Beckett and Papelbon did the same, that’s why they were my favorites.
Dude was so good in MLB Power Pros. Was comparable to Roy Halladay's stats in that game
Peavy may have been towards the tail end of his career by the time he got to San Francisco but I honestly loved having him as a Giant.
I’m friends with Jake. He always talks about how much he loved San Francisco and the fans. He bought a bar down here in Mobile and he is building a wiffle ball field behind it and putting his duck boat from Boston behind left field.
You may have 590 subs now but I can easily see it grow to 590k by the years end. Keep up the good work!
@@SportStorm23 If UA-cam could get their ass in gear and actually promote creative content that would be amazing. You definitely deserve more subscribers than you currently have. Keep up the great videos!
Good optimism but Jomboy and FoolishBB don’t even have that many combined lmao
He'd have to buy his subs then, like Josh Revell or other losers who have 50k subs before even uploading a video lol
“...and a replica of Fenway Park.” Many players think fondly of their Boston seasons, even when they move on. Pedro, Fisk, Nomah, and more.
So glad to see a fellow Padres fan except you also make well-written baseball videos. Good job!
Peavy was the man. Great guy too. Signed some ⚾ 's to be auction for our little league.
As a lifelong Padres fan Peavy is the reason i wear #44 to this day. Broke my heart to see him struggle after San Diego
Great video. Being a Padres fan. This video hits home.
I really enjoyed that story. Thanks for making this one.
great video, keep it up. very in depth and taught me much about peavy i didnt know. although i would have liked more clips of him yelling at himself on the mound, love seeing that
Cool vid, also a big Padres fan mid-2000s as a kid so definitely can remember those golden years with Peavy and AGone. Glad Peavy got a championship.
I just found your channel, it's amazing! I have been trying to find channels like this. It's tougher than you think. Keep up the good work.
Manish Sharma thank you! You should check out Outta Here Baseball if you haven’t already
Life long Padre fan here. Nice video man.
Holy shit yes I was wondering why this channel had so much Padres content! Automatic sub
Jake was a beast. He’s a great guy also. I’ve got to see him a few times here in mobile . He always has time for fans and kids
Peavy bought one of the duck boats from the 13 Ws Parade. Is that at his ranch?
as a padres fan, would love to see a life of khalil greene video from you. love the channel!
Peavy was my hero growing up🥺
Great vid coming from a Padres fan myself
Great video dude!
Excellent videos man, very informative..I got into baseball fairly recently and Peavy was one of my favorite players in the 2014 Giants it was good to hear about his story. A bit of constructive criticism when you finish a sentence your intonation goes up like you're asking a question.. which is fine but is a little distracting IMO. :) Hope you keep churning out videos! Take care during the pandemic (mask, washing hands, social distancing etc).. cheers man!
I was at his debut. I remember a comment made by a fan, "Who's this Peavy?"
Injuries can slow anyone down in the end but at least he collected couple of rings along the way.
I named my son after Adrian Gonzalez, you are right Friars Faithful didn’t have much to cheer since 98 but look at us now FINALLY a team we can take pride in
Wait Pause you upload to spark raving sports? Dude you make some good high quality sports content
The way I see Jake Peavy is similar to the way I see Jake Arrieta. Both had runs of dominance where they were considered the best pitcher in the majors for a year or two, but ultimately rapidly declined to being an end of the rotation starter. Both will likely not make the hof, but their runs of dominance were damn fun to watch and should not be forgotten.
His career reminds me more of Kerry Wood's. Arrieta and one ridiculous season and two other very good ones, but all of his other seasons were medicare to flat out bad. Wood and Peavy had nasty, NASTY stuff and were good for a decent amount of time put couldn't stay healthy.
Khalil Greene was awesome in San Diego too. My brothers and I used to mime his spin throw at short during little league practice. He is up there with Jake Peavy for my all time favorite Padres players
are we just going to ignore 3:40! he casually catches it with his bare hand
Bro even I could do that and maybe even you could too if you have at least decent hand eye coordination. It's 1 thing if the catcher threw him a bullet but all he did was lob it to him.
Peavy poured beer on me when the Padres clinched in 05. Fun times. I always liked him too. I bet you are enjoying this season though. Rumor has it that Peavy injured his hand during the 05 celebration so that affected his postseason performance. GO PADRES!!!!
Peavy tore his lat completely from the bone. It was a horrific injury. No pitcher in baseball had ever recovered from it. It definitely took a toll on hos velocity and spin rate but the fact he was able to persevere and pitch another decade is a testament to his dedication to the game.
Jake Peavy was a great pitcher with the Padres back in the late 2000s including when he won the NL Cy Young in 2007.
Growing up in San Diego, I havnt heard that name in a while.
You should do one for Adrian Gonzalez. Life long padre fan here!
Pitchers really do have mercurial careers. I mean really, guys like Verlander, Pedro, Nolan, Maddux are literally once in a generation guys.
Peavy won me my fantasy league in 07, he was so dominant that season.
What was his best pitch? Sinker?
My buddy from when I was in the marines is his cousin.
Jake Peavy was really really REALLY GREAT & Amazing in His Prime. I personally believe he should’ve been left the Paders because they wasted his Great Prime Years but that’s a Debate for another day...
To anybody that’s watching this remember y’all, Keep Going & Be Safe 🤟🏾💯
Lmaoo the intro is the realest .
I remember being a teenager and getting his autograph at a Petco Store, I still have it.
So now he is on Padres Hall of Fame. Even if the Mlb doesn't induct him to their hall of fame he will always be a Hall of Famer to his friends, family and the fans. One of the best.
As a Sox fan it was cool to say we had him, but “injuries” actually where shoulder surgeries not mentioned in the video.
I remember the TV analysts always saying they wish he wouldn't fling his arm back after he let go of the ball.
Peavy with the Giants was solid. Especially during that first half year after he got dealt from the red sox. Was a good time to be a Giants fan. With Marco Luciano, Canario, Bishop, Corry and with Bart already up, it may be good sooner than later.
He was one of my favorites when he was with the White Sox.... He did a great job with the community here...
You took my GM of the future as a Texas fan that's what we were told when JD would move to COO or CEO
Cardinals fan here in StL...man I loved Jake Peavey. Dude looked like he was throwing a wiffle ball out there.
Good to see he got a ring with my SF Giants
Remember 2016 was a World Baseball Classic year and it seems like it messed him up. Also keep in mind his arrival to the Giants probable had something to do with his ties to manager Bruce Bochy.
His kids go to St. Paul’s school in mobile Alabama and is a baseball coach for the school
I went to school with jake peavy son judson and one year for a end of year party we went to his house freaking huge and it was lit but it sucked when his parents had to get a divorce and he moved away man jake the dude is huge man looks like a bodyguard in the car pool line
You should do one for Brandon Webb
“God bless it!”
I always remembered him because he always looked pissed off when he was on the mound.
Trace Adkins "Rough and Ready" was his song at PETCO Whenever I hear it I think of him.
Maybe ennings is a california accent type thing. Grew up in chicago and san diego and it seems like the way san diegans would pronounce it
He retired?
Coach Jake is my middle school pitching Cosch
My dad used to umpire jake peavy when he played little leauge ball in mobile alabama
As a Padres fan, I'm glad he got traded because he wouldn't of gotten 2x Championship rings if he stayed in San Diego. The offense never gave him run support in San Diego.
I’m a huge White Sox fan, I named my cat after Jake Peavy once he was traded to the Sox
Preller was one of the executives for TEX. Back in 2005 when they traded Adrian Gonzales for Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka what an idiot. Your right on with Peavy, he was unreal. I can't tell you how many times I saw him give up one run and take a loss. If he pitched for the Red Sox in 07-09 he would of had 60 wins. LOL
alot of pitchers refuse to adjust, people wonder how tom glavine pitched so long with no fastball......he adapted
khalil greene was my favorite player for sure
I have his white Sox’s jersey signed and a ball he went to my church and my dad played with him
paders got the best player and the game now so it don,t matter no more
Fun fact, Jake Peavy is legally blind and wears special contacts.
Jake became a jake.
he is my school ball pitching coach
Hey man also a Padres fan in SD if you ever want to email me lmk I could help you however just lmk love the content
I attended one of the playoff games against the Cardinals. David Wells was the starting pitcher. He made the dumbass decision to pitch to Albert Pujols, who was at the height of his powers at the time. Obviously, it didn't end well. I couldn't believe what I was watching.
pronunciation doesn't matter, content does, and ur content is good so ur good
Imagine losing 15 millions dollars and it doesnt effect you financially insane
630 high stress innings in 3 years was his downfall. Was never the same guy after that.
face reveal?
Buying the 5000-acre ranch is probably the wisest thing he has done so far.
You forgot an important part of his decline, his eyes failed him. He had a major problem seeing the catchers fingers calling for the pitches especially in low light.
Tearing his lat was a far bigger contributer of his decline than any eyesight issues.
age hits pitchers VERY hard
Pronounce innings how you want thanks for the content
Bro I pronounce innings the same way. I get it. That's how language works, we don't all say things exactly the same.
I always say 'melk' instead of milk. I have a friend that always says, "Do you get melk from an elk?"
Peavy was at his best when I was really getting into baseball as a kid. Definitely have some fond memories of him. Chris Young too
Man I remember Chris Young, fun guy to watch
Whoa, I didn't know about him losing all that money from a shitty financial advisor. That sucks. Even though he's financially secure, 15 to 20 million being essentially stolen is still 15 to 20 million.
It's why you don't pick a friend or family member to handle that, you hire them, and there's a contract as well. If they dick you over, there's retribution
@Demented Saint I know of him, he was an LA King that was traded shortly before the championships. I never heard of that happening to him. And NHL players aren't making money like the other leagues either. Stories like that piss me off. Because they made it, but then people close to them dick them over. It's just not right.
I'm a white Sox fan and I was 12 when he won the cy young, he was so electric I used his number still to this day 44
Yeah he and Brandon Webb I remember, two dominant pitchers of their time who people today wouldn't know about.
