Mix-A-Lot always has and always will rep Seattle. He calls out neighborhoods, shoots his videos here. That man is a legend and an Avatar. His impact on the community is immeasurable- he gives back in big big ways. Seattle rep!
No matter the color of your skin, having to roll in a hooptie at some point is a unifying factor for most of us. Mine had a "safety" gas cover door that wouldn't stay closed, and I couldn't afford to fix it, so I used duct tape to keep it closed with a roll in the car whenever I had to open it to fill up. I also had to keep the windows up because they would get stuck halfway if I tried to lower them. Oh, and because it was a Pontiac, the electrical system would just shut off while driving every once in a while.
Classic! So many people know Sir Mix a Lot from "Baby Got Back", but he had 2 classic albums before that ever dropped... Swass and Seminar. He's one of a kind! When you hear his flow you KNOW it's him.
Baby got back.. the minute My man went commercial.. just like hammer. Then he went back to less commercial music like put em on the glass and the best track he did.. Chief boot knocka
The thing is though, I remember hearing Baby Got Back the first time I played the Mack Daddy cd and I didnt think "oh he went commercial".. i just thought that's a funny song, probably a single but I was still playin "One Time's Got No Case" and "Testarossa" and "Lockjaw" were right in the groove with "Rippn". I was a little surprised when it became a pop hit.
@@robgoodman7303 I love Rippin. One Time's Got no Case and Swap Meet Louie from Mack Daddy absolutely slap. I saw Mix in 2019 at the Tractor Tavern in Ballard (Seattle) and it's one of my favorite shows ever!

Sir Mix A Lot also has a few more dope videos worth reacting to: Baby Got Back, Iron Man, Beepers, Swap Meet Louie, One Time's Got No Case, Put 'Em On The Glass, Carz, Jump On It, Ride, and Sleepin' Wit My Fonk.
I absolutely adore Anthony. He was busting out bangers back in the day. Beepers, seminar, buttermilk biscuits, and so many more before baby got back. Old school g from the northwest!

@csurampower Return of the Bumpasaurus was probably my least favorite, but I'd agree with Jump on it. I loved pretty much all of Mix's other albums, Mack Daddy was great all the way through, I just liked "I'm Your New God" as it was a bit darker than Mix's usual songs. The Jack Back as well had much darker tones than his regular beats.
In the 90s I worked at a luxury car dealership in Denver called Euro-Motion, and mix-a-lot came in. He either bought that Benz from us or traded it in for something else, I don’t remember. I do remember he was a very nice guy! Great memories!!!
If you ain't come up having a hooptie personally, in the family or knowing someone that rolled one, I don't know if we can be friends. When I was a kid my folks had an all red 1978 Mercury Cougar with a red vinyl top. Hooptie AF. Such a dope car.
BTW, lots of folks give Public Enemy the credit for kicking off the fusion of Hip-Hop and Metal during the 90s with Anthrax on "Bring The Noize", but it was UTFO in '87 with Anthrax on their song "Lethal" and Sir Mix-A-Lot in '88 with Metal Church on their song "Iron Man" that sampled Black Sabbath’s "Iron Man". Sir Mix-A-Lot has always done his thing in his own unique way, for sure.
I still credit the Beasties with the origin of metal and rap, but Mix a Lot was on it too, as well as Public Enemy I think they all saw the writing on the wall that fusion would sell.
