I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the AMZWATCH's watches are the most intriguing.
It's a countdown bezel, so instead of measuring time out from a set start for oxygen management, like a dive timer, you're measuring to a set end point, like needing to arrive at a checkpoint by a certain time.
You said "not a luxury fit and finish by any means". I honestly don't believe you. While it's true that Baltany and San Martin watches are lacking in subtle color coordination, movement quality (which can affect case thickness).... the difference in their case finishing and higher end brands like Hamilton, etc are often impossible to detect.
1) I don't consider Hamilton Luxury, I would personally consider Omega the beginning of Luxury 2) I have personally handled thousands of watches within varying tiers, and I will say I can have a pretty good idea of what constitutes a "luxury level" of fit-and-finish. Yes, many and maybe even most consumers wouldn't be able to really tell the difference between a Seiko and a Grand Seiko but to someone like me who has agonized and obsessed over all of the subtle ornate details, there are noticeable differences.
@@AverageBros Perhaps you mean under a macro lens or something. Seemingly OCD IMO. Especially considering that San Martin has under macro outperformed Rolex and others. There are many differences between luxury watches and a cheap chinese one like this, but they can certainly finish steel in China. That's why I objected to your point. All your other points were correct.
@@MarcTsawwassen Lack of dust on dials or sharp transitions between brushed and polished surfaces that are captured under macro are very surface level measurements of "fit-and-finish." While I don't consider Rolex to have luxury levels of complex finishing (still premium, just not luxury), they do offer luxury levels of fitment tolerances. Again, there's more to it than just superficial details, even under a macro. You can have complex finishes and not be luxury and you can have simple finishes and be luxury, so there's more nuance to it. A talented cover band can play great music, but The Beatles were Artists. The perceived value in being similar to the original is intrinsic to the original. Luxury can be very subjective, and you can't just brush and polish your way into it unfortunately. I totally understand where you're coming from though and agree that to many these subtle details do not matter and under the 'right' circumstances, one can argue that 'this' is objectively better or equal to 'that' but again, it's all about context.

It would just be nice for a watch reviewer to actually note that brands like Baltany and San Martin have finishing extremely close to luxury brands for over 99% of people who buy watches. Case proportions, dial details and movement are another story. Overall, watch nerds can be a rather strange sub-culture of people who value esoteric things that are of questionable value. IE. Why don't Miyota 9000 series movements get the same level of respect as their swiss equivalents? Because their winding movements are not as smooth, some rotor noise - or is it that Miyota has better reliability and cheaper maintenance costs?
@@MarcTsawwassen At the end of the day, I can only share my own personal opinion. I don't look to tell people what they want to hear, I look to tell them what I think. For example, I was hugely let down by the finishing of the Citizen Fujitsubo Diver, I shared that sentiment and proceeded to have tons of people tell me how much the quality of brushing or polishing didn't matter to them. In the case of this review, the watch is finished fine, one could even say well done but no, I do not consider it a luxury level of finishing. If I did, I would've said that and I have said that for other watches, even from non-luxury brands. As for Miyota, kind of an odd statement, as I would say that most who give an ETA 2824 / SW200 or ETA 2892 / SW300 "respect" would most likely be fans of the Miyota 9000 series of movements, as many collectors don't go out of their way to show respect for off-the-shelf movements in general. Additionally, considering how much later the 9000 series was developed than the 2892 architecture, it absolutely should be better in some ways, otherwise why would it need to exist? Even Citizen Group themselves market the Swiss LJP G100 above the Miyota 9015 and they own both movement manufacturers. Good enough doesn't cancel out better. Going beyond what is required is one of the cornerstones of the luxury segment after all.
20 minute review for a new micro brand, independent, or even major brand release is awesome...20 minutes review for a crappy homage brand copy of an old Hamilton design...maybe not necessary. Lolz.
