I have noticed that there are kings of war boxes in your background. As an avid kings of war player, I have been curious what someone who primarily focuses on 40k thinks about kings of war.
They’re just using this as an opportunity to gauge the backlash of what getting rid of the first born might be like. So far they’ve been slowly pulling at the first born with some complaints but if they ripped them out all at once, they might only get a little bit more for all we know.
Its all part of the plan. GW WANTS us to re-buy all our models again and again. They could have refreshed space marines by giving us truescale mk7 or even primaris versions of the same units. But no, they had to create new units with new rules and equipment so that theres pressure to invalidate old models. And now its Stormcasts turn.
I wouldn't particularly mind them culling SCE range to something more manageable, if it wasn't almost guaranteed that they'll just bloat it right back up in 3 years time
So far the models appear to be a Range Refresh. We're getting Thunderstrike Liberators and Thunderstrike Prosecutors, which do not invalidate the old models as based on the "Liberators" warscroll we've seen, there are no changes in name.
@@Kohdok All of the sacrosanct are going back to their home planet though. That’s all the second edition Stormcast gone without replacement. And those aren’t old at all. They were launched between 2018 and 2021, and were in every starter set for that period. Nothing suggests resculpts for them.
yeah, its because it didnt sell... ive been trying to get my hands on a corvus cabal warband for about two years, always out of tock.... wonder why it doesnt sell
@@ShalashakaDSGw logic with everything. For example HH Iron Warriors - make no models for them for decades and only focus in Imperial Fists and SoH - point out that IW don‘t sell as much as SoH and thats why they get no support. Self-fulfilling prophecy.
I fully expect every one of the "old" Stormcast models being playable as a "counts as" thunder strike model. A guy in armor with a hammer is a guy with a hammer in armor.
I've said it countless times to every new players whos minis get "killed off". We are not playing tournaments, we play for fun and if you oponent denies you your older unis or proxys, just pack you bags and go, cause those people are not worth your time. Paladins are allready in use as Annihilators and one of our guys plays the Evocator with the cool look wyrm as an Arcanum general. Nobody has a problem with that, because many of us have armies where that happened. Iam also advocating to throw "Wysiwyg" in the trashcan, because i play armies where there are not enough weapon options in the kit, for the rules they have (Scourges can have 4 Dark Lances, they come with 1, Retributors can have 4 Multi Meltas, they come with one, Chrisis Suits can use 3 CiBs, they come with zero and so on). Funny enought, the persons who demand what you see is what you get the most are the Space Marine players who never had those problems in the first place.
My roommate has been building up his SE army for two years just to have a third of his army cut by GW, they seriously need to figure out a way to move forward with model ranges without telling people the thing they spent hundreds on are now useless.
Except they didnt say they were useless They literally say KEEP USING YOUR OLD MODELS in regards to those getting refreshes I.e., i can use an old helbrecht or a new helbrect model in 40k
@@scolack123 at this point we've moved past criticism and onto just making shit up to be mad about. Play old models, play 3d prints, nobody cares except at very specific events that has been shown less 10% of the community actually partake in(and that's exceptionally generous when there's some that show 80% of people only go for the models). Some people act like WYSIWYG is the law, and thankfully I've never met anyone IRL who acts like UA-cam commenters do.
@gregorycafiero9688 The endless sycophancy towards GW never ceases to amaze me. They dont love you or even care about you. They just want your money. When GW pulls some of its usual BS, like it is now, its perfectly reasonable that people call them out on it. That fact we have "3d printing or fan rules" doeasnt mean we cant call GW out on its BS!
What amuses me is that people still haven't caught onto the switch GW made about 10-12 years ago. They realized pretty quickly they sell 10x more "new stuff" than old stuff. Now this is a sales tactic which admittedly goes back to the GW retail stores in the U.S. in the late 90's, early 2000's (my buddy was a store manager). GW used to tell store managers that existing customers don't buy stuff, and they're only interested in the new player (particularly kids who can convince their parents to buy them $200-300 in a pop). This morphed a while ago into GW realizing that even existing players just buy the "new shiny". It's why they revamp their game every 2-3 years (and yes, they're designing the 'new' version before the current version is even fully launched). It's why you get a small wave of models for an army...and then nothing for 6-8 years. It's why they let armies languish while launching 10-15 new factions instead of supporting existing ones. It's why they launch a new "major" game every 8-12 months. Remember how big Aeronautica Imperialis was going to be? Gone. Remember how big Adeptus Titanicus was going to be? Basically a dead game. Rememeber how big Horus Heresy 2nd edition was going to be? Sales have plummeted and even UA-camr's can't make money playing it. Remember how big Legions Imperialis was going to be? Everyone dumped it for Old World. How many Kill Teams and Warcry bands have been made redundant? How many seasons of Underworld stuff can you not buy any longer? This is the FOMO/rapid roll-over of GW's sales strategy. It obviously works as they're tremendously successful. They keep a baseline of players hooked into basic 40K...knowing those same players will blow $250 on "the next big thing"...even if they never build/paint/play it. I know numerous local 40K players who precisely that. They pretend to play 40K but everyone one of them buys the starter box for every single "big new" game GW produces. They're the perfect GW customer. I'm an old school 2nd player, and tried again in 8th (and dropped it within a year). I don't begrudge GW and how they make money - at all. However, I do laugh at players pretending GW isn't doing all of this 100% intentionally. It's not supply chain issues, it's not cerverd, it's not brexit...it's just 100% intentional business strategy.
It's absolutely insane the amount of buy-in by the lemmings and sycophants who "obey" these rule changes, or who invest more money into a game pieces that GW will later "disqualify". It's dumb.
nuking the stormcast eternals is just so crazy to me. From being the poster boys to the trash can. Games Workshop is in the miniature selling business, thats it. They have a couple games tucked on but they dont really care. Its really weird as miniatures last for years and years, bet you still have some old school minis from second edition just as good as they were 30 years ago. I liked 8ths quick play style in the beginning but it mutated into something awful. GW is not serious about their games, only about selling miniatures. As you say, take a look at the Votann, extremely overpowered when released but now gone.
What annoys me more are people who complain when GW makes any decision at all with their games. NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO ABANDON A GAME, SYSTEMS OF RULES, MODELS, OR ANYTHING YOU BOUGHT. If you have friends, you can play the same game, edition, or models, until you are worm food. If you don't want to stay current, then don't. Nobody cares, and your life will not change much at all.
I picked a stormcast one up last year. Got them built and was prepping to paint them... 90% the box is on this list. Needless to say, not happy. Every time I change my focus on which army to work on this shit happens. This is the 3rd time in a row in just 1 year. Frankly, this is ridiculous, and makes joining this hobby with intent to do tournaments a literal waste of your time (& money).
@@TheDigitalThreatI stopped playing when GW destroyed fantasy, I was considering getting back into tabletop gaming when GW does this. I have started looking into either Star Wars legion or conquest
Ive only been collecting 2-3 years, but had got a Start collecting last year, and picked up 6 now useless SC unit kits on ebay, and then all 3 versions of the starter sets to round everything out. The start collecting and ebay kits had the bulk of my competitive list options as the starters were just filler and all the same units, outside 2-3 models a box. The entire purpose I started an AOS army was for tournaments to begin with. I'm a (new) so very slow painter, and it takes me time to get full armys to table standard and I had to start over after last year when my first choice 40k blood angels first born army that was 1.5 years into the making and about 80% done, was cut in half. So I had shifted my focus to my AOS alternate choice thinking all these models are easily under 10 years old and most just 2-5 years old, now at least I'll have time - they wouldnt "retire these" so soon... then this double kick in the balls.
I imagine the way to go now is to treat all your various melee infantry guys as one of the other datasheets. I doubt anyone would care if you had a bunch of guys with hammers/spears/swords mixed to your liking to "counts as" another melee battleline datasheet.
@@TheDigitalThreat I feel you. when I first started with Warhammer fantasy I started with bretonnia, only to a couple of months later GW completely delete the army, then I bought a bunch of stuff from different armies until I settle for dwarfs like a year before the splitted the army in two. with my now two halves armies I decided to start vampire counts buuuut the world blew up! I stopped there with fantasy-aos. I moved to 40k, dark angels, with an almost finished army the primaries came out and forced me to rebuy it all. then I thought, aos just came out a couple years ago with the new stormcast eternals, they are the fantasy marines, they are cool minis and there is no way they would do the same thing to their new line and poster child, right?, right? I have had the worst luck with Games Workshop.
time to start converting all those AOS beastmen into 40K beastmen where THEY BELONG!!!! and to be fair, I sort of think the same is true of the chunky stormcasts that are getting dropped from AOS... for some reason they now seem "better" as conversion fodder into corrupt 40K marines...
I'd love GW to embrace the "sad" side of the Stormcast, as every time they die and are reforged they lose a bit more of their memories and their selves. It has a lot of Dark Souls vibes, but it doesn't come across very much in the minis
back in 2nd edition aos i think there was art floating around of a tormented / darker looking stormcast, and everyone got hyped thinking that was the direction they were gonna take the faction. turns out it was just 1 piece of cool art and that was that
For AoS. Beastmen players should have known that they were moving to Fantasy exclusively when they announced all the core races for old world, beastmen being among them. You'd have to be delusional to think that GW would let you double dip into games.
@@persepolis4836 how should beastmen players have known they were moving to fantasy when a new beastlord was released early last year alongside their new battletome? and endless spells? faction terrain?
@@henryjames456 No, but slaves to darkness and Warriors of Chaos are two different factions that won't have rules overlap. Seriously, are you all brand new to GW?
I have quite a few of the older models - They will become Adeptus Custodes; I call this the GREAT CUSTODIZATION! Prosecutors will be Venatari, liberators will be Custodian Guard, evocators will be allarus termies, etc.
The head scratcher for me is that in Blood Bowl, we now have gnomes and snotlings, but no High Elves (Elven Union doesn't count!) or even Chaos Dwarves.
14:18 I finally decided to buff up my Stormcast collection over the past couple weeks. Bought 2 units of Sequitors, 1 Evocators, 2 units of Retributors/Paladins, 2 Celestar Ballistas, 1 Masters of the Sacrosanct, 2 Lord Celestants on Dracoths and 2 Castigators units from a mixture of the old push fit stuff and 2nd hand multipart kits. Didn't even get to build em all lol
Man that sucks......but still got 4 years left to play them outside of tournaments. They are getting a new battletome at start of 4ed which will last till 5th.
Completely agree regarding Stomcasts - the old ones going away is sucky for people who started off with Stormcasts when AoS started - one of my friends has just had his army essentially discontinued and he only bought it about 3-4 years ago. Yes they are Legends but we all know as time goes on Legend units become less and less viable (look at the legend rules for orcs and goblins if you want a good chuckle).
In my contry the whole communitydecided if GW returns old models as new, all old are legal and cunts like another armor pattern, like in 40k you can use mk3, mk6, mk4 and etc. for Tactical squad unit
I feel like they should have treated the older stormcast as a sort of veteran series of unit. Heroes of the First Strike or something where they have a minor stat improvement like a better armor save, but otherwise get moved to legends. In the lore you could say that they have been reforged so much that are unable to change and the armor is too expensive for mass mass deployment. Sort of treat it as a changing of the guard where the veterans are still technically better than the thunder strike but are beyond Sigmar control.
"I'm sure they have to do this, they have thousands of SKU's on their website" Here's a wild idea, how about they stop releasing new models every single week? They won't do this though, because like the cost increases, like the subtle model changes designed to prevent conversions, like the degrading of battle forces and other discount boxes, they're trying to slowly shift us into a churn model where our minis are valid for less time, and we have to buy new ones more frequently.
As someone who played oldmarines I’ve gotta ask, but won’t the new models replacing them be newer and bigger and betterer? Won’t they have better proportions?
Stormcasts had a lot of design overlap. Do people really need Liberators and Sequitors to exist at the same time? Maybe GW should slow down the new unit profiles per edition for them.
Sequitors could have 3 hammers, imbue their weapons with magic, and if someone died within 3" of the Sequitor-Prime, they couldn't come back. The Liberators on the other hand, could have a single grandhammer, and they did mortal wounds to an enemy if they were still alive. Sequitors are only 10 points more, and I love using them. Sad to see them go.
@@click_3186 I have never heard anybody talking about Age of Sigmar lore, its basically nonexistent even on youtube. Probably because the entire thing is awful, the books are horrible, close to unreadable.
That's just factually untrue. There's lore of AoS, you just haven't bothered to look it up. And then projected your own disinterest onto others. If anyone IS interested, Pacreasnowork does some good work, check him out.
@@GNerdful Huh, really? Well, I'll be damned. I would have bet GW's policy to be to grind down and shred anything going to the trash. They just feel to be that kind company.
@@MosoKaiser one former manager was told that it costs GW more to make the box than it does for them to make the models. They only care about the IP not the real models.
As a Votann player, please GW continue to put Killteams into 40k. We are starving for new units and if the new Jaegirs weren't playable in 40k I would do shameful things.
The difference from playing the beastmen/orc in summer '25 vs fall '25 is clearly, by fall, the AoS Orcs will be getting a codex, thus nulifiying the index cards. Or at least 40k is doing things kinda like that.
I actually like the older chunky Stormcast. While the proportions are more realistic on the newer ones some of the poses are god awful just look at the spear/shield ones.
this was just horrible too. i just built and painted an stormcasts army for my friend that wanted to get into warhammer all the units in that army are being removed too. real slap in the face.
Jay you are spot on. I have a ton of those models on sprue waiting for my kids to build them, which will seem odd if they don't even have current rules.
Sucks to be players with those armies. But this is very much a GW exclusive problem. Corvus Belli still allows ancient sculpts back from 2003 to be used in the most current edition of Infinity with new rules updates. And when they discontinue model lines, they allow those discontinued models to count as different current model, with lore reasons for why they are filling their ranks (look at magister knights -> teutonic knights for an example). No reason why GW can't do this. And if you look at MalifauxThe Other Side, ConquestConquest First Blood, FirefightDeadzone, BattletechBattletech Alpha Strike, and even 40kKillteam, models/factions are allowed to have dual purpose in the skirmish-scale game and the army-scale game. There really isn't a good justification for why the Warcry models no longer get support in Age of Sigmar. They don't even have to have unique rules, they could just be alternate sculpts for existing units. Yet again, GW doing GW things. Anyways, if people really want to play with their GW models, just switch to One Page Rules. Alternating activations, free army builder, and miniature agnostic. The time spent building, painting, and collecting models will never lose value after only 9 years like they do in GW games.
Magic is important in a fantasy setting so why have they axed the magic-based, most-interesting chamber - the not so sacrosanct chamber of the "Stormcast Ephemerals"
I'm seriously pissed because not only was I considering some Beastmen as a potential ally for my Khorne, but I was planning to get a bunch of the axed Stormcast kits this year to expand into Sacrosanct. And the way they apparently will strip out the Warhammer Underworlds and Warcry warbands in 4th? Yeah, sucks, those are the most fun parts of my collection. Strangely, it's not even the older Stormcast - Sacrosanct are at most 6 years old. And they skipped over the 1st edition Vanguard and Extremis models. You can't look at the Dracolines and think they deserve being axed or replaced more than the first edition Dracoths, which are seriously blocky and stiff, with weapon options being the only thing to customize.
They do that for many years: Squat, Specislist Games (Bloodbowl, Necromunda, Warmaster, EPIC, Mordheim), Battle, Firstborn... From the moment they destroy the Old World (a core game) you can't be surprise if they doing it again on other stuff. ps: I can't find their Spray Gun on their website either.
I like the older look of Stormcast. These are immortal warriors with thunder running through their veins, they should look like hulking tanks/ demigods. To me, it was just wearing heavy armor and looked very intimidating, the new ones look like medium armor and just like a average knight. Not a fan.
The worst part are the GW Apologists who are trying to justify it by "u CaN uSe ThEm As PrOxY" Literally my entire stormcast army (outside of my celestant prime) got the axe. Loved the Sacrosanct chamber and the 1st edition Stormcast units..
You could also take it all into One Page Rules. As long as you’re doing something else with them, why not keep them together and play them as they’re intended?
Eyy eonist! A little help! Does subscribing to the patreon include access to the old terrain STLs? I really got my eye on the corpse cannery one Thanks
For me the Sequitors were the most iconic and unique Stormcast troop. The 2e cover was what introduced me to them and that weapon sets them apart from hammer and swords. I hope they get a remaster at least. And Ill miss the deathmask. For as much as I didnt like AOS and saw the stormcast as everything wrong with the new setting, losing so many so soon sucks. The mounted units leave feels like thatll cause a giant hole. And I prefer the hammer lightning logo shields.
Seraphon are kinda daemons now, and what your describing is kinda city’s of sigmar but they don’t do that in the new range. And every god has his own soldiers so eleves or dwarfs will never be stormcast.
I think sacrosancts are the best stormcasts, I hate that they're removing them. Also most of the stuff they're removing is the SC units a lot of people were sold in the mortal realms collection, what a scam.
In related news, fancy restaurant throws out tons of uneaten food amid homeless crisis-Daemons and Fyreslayers unavailable for comment. If only somebody at GW could have foreseen the issue with channelling 50% of your resources into one army that doesn't remotely have the 40 years of lore and build-up-and thus popularity, that space marines have.
If its any comfort, I'm a Tyranid player who started in 2002. The 3rd edition Tyranid range only lasted 4 years before they were scrapped. And I loved it! 🥳
I am annoyed at this change. I've not played for years, so it's not like I am upset that much, but all my front line is gone, 2/3rd of my leadership is gone. All the Gryph style units are going to be around, so that's a happy circumstance. Look, only reason I play Stormcast is that they got all the Gryphhounds and Hippogryphs, and as long as I can continue playing with those, I'll be happy. They are what I love to paint, and while I know people like dragons, just give me more goofy half bird things, and I'll be happy.
always makes me anxious when gw starts axing models I'm hoping to make a skaven army but he is just so damn expensive now especially compared to something like star wars legion even after market is super expensive but that just cause i like new unpainted an unassembled models since its asembling and painting models that i like
Games Workshop games having to compete with other Games Workshop games is absolutely insane. Or, hell, themselves? The Kings of War discord has been pretty busy with new Herd players, and people wondering what they can use their Stormcast as tho. So that's nice.
Seeing how SE are the core army sold as part of the AoS Stormbringer magazine/model monthly subscription, it makes me want to cancel my account. No sense spending more money after bad.
The thunderstrike armor is what finally got me to jump on aos models. I love the look of them. But your idea of every race being reforged as stormcast is super cool.
If GW were looking for ways to convince folks not to buy into the new edition....this is how! Holy smokes. Right before a new edition they destroy someones army? Why on earth would anyone put a dollar into AoS? Avoiding it like the plague.
This company is beyond sanity. How can anyone justify buying their products at this point? You buy an army, you get the rules and they just nuke it all at the drop of a hat. I did not see it justified to delete old models from rules but now I see no defending this anymore for even the insanest of fanboys.
(Apologies for the wall of text ahead, these ideas have just been percolating for a while and now's as good a time as any to write them down somewhere). Another article I read pointed out that this refresh indicates that these models just weren't connecting with buyers as much as Space Marines, thus prompting GW to go ahead with a more aggressive refresh plan than they might have otherwise. Given how, as you note in the video, the Thunderstrike-style does seem to have been received more positively overall, this makes sense. I think there are maybe two things that could be done to improve things further: First, one thing they could do to make the Stormcast more interesting would be to see them branch out into more realm-specific subthemes within the range. One of the things that makes Space Marines so consistently popular for buyers is that each marine model can be spun off in many different directions depending on what chapter you like. You're not JUST buying a space marine. That model could just as easily be an Ultramarine as a Dark Angel, Blood Angel, Raven Guard, Salamander, Etc. Someone gave you an extra copy of a Lieutenant you already have 10 different versions of as a gift? No prob, perfect chance to try out painting a new chapter for fun! There is a wide range of ideas of what it means to be a "Space Marine," and picking your favorite chapter is part of the fun of collecting marines, along with trying new chapters. It gives the storywriters a much more interesting narrative to develop, and it lets manufacturers get significantly more sales mileage from the same sculpts. Stormcast have only barely tapped into this concept, and leaning into it more would probably help them significantly. It wouldn't even take that big of a commitment from a manufacturing standpoint: just some upgrade sprues, a couple of choice character models, and some good story hooks. Maybe give us some Ghur-themed Stormcast that lean into the Conan the Barbarian angle (I'm kinda digging the idea of some particularly feral Stormcast actually accepting mentorship by Steeljaw Orruks as they work to defeat their shared Kruleboy enemies), or some Shyish-themed Stormcast that really lean into the Gothic Dark Souls angle (the new Ionus Cryptborn model is a perfect example of this idea), etc. Second, while I find the fact that most Stormcast are relatively somewhat sane compared to their counterparts refreshing, I think Stormcast are also running into the same narrative pitfalls that prompted GW to make the Space Marines so dysfunctional for the sake of the game: Two players collecting Stormcast will likely have a hard time thinking of a good narrative reason to play games against each other. I don't think Stormcast necessarily need to have a full-on Horus Heresy event, but some kind of internal conflicts or tensions that can be settled on the tabletop would help make them more interesting. In fact, it might be more interesting to have conflicts between Stormcast with both sides still in the Order Alliance. Think a fantasy Spartans versus fantasy Athenians angle, maybe. The drama, tragedy, and dark comedy aspects of two different order-aligned Stormhosts having a fight could be quite compelling.
You misread slightly. You can play beastmen and savage orks COMPETITIVELY until 2025. Noones gonna stop you playing those armies casually. Infact my local gw manager said he'd allow them in his in-store tournaments for as long as they have rules
Legends rules are almost entirely trap though. Games workshop intentionally balances them so poorly they’re almost always a huge liability to take in games. Two or three times in addition, I try to break out an army that’s no longer supported, and you almost always lose in list building. It’s honestly really smart. You punish people for playing models, they already own, you force them to buy new models if they want to keep playing.
they're obviously going to be shit rules because they're unfortunately not welcome in AOS anymore. mark my words, beasts of chaos wont even be able to ambush. legends rules have always been a joke
@@Duplacorn yeah legends warscrolls are such quality, definitely in line with real warscrolls. that's why they're also considered for balancing and such.. oh wait..
anyone now when this min is will retire. a lot of the warcry stuff is out of stock everywhere - do you think there will be another batch to buy, or is it over?
I just bought a good bit of SCE stuff in December and January and 2/3 of my army is being shelved. I don't have a problem with the chunky boys so it seems pointless. If GW were more opaque with their plans, less people would be upset. OR ... Just leave these relatively new models alone and refresh old models? Maybe put another army in the starter box instead of SCE every time and stop bloating the range?
I don't play Age of Sigmar and I don't intend to, but I've recently started playing WarCry and got myself an Iron Golem warband... Does anybody know if this announcement means that all these Slaves to Darkness warbands miniatures are discontinued, or just removed from Age of Sigmar?
The Warcry models were actually pretty great in AoS. Corvus Cabal were great deep strikers. Many if the others were often taken in the Ravagers subfaction for repeated revivals of the units.
As a Stormcast Eternals player I can almost guarantee that the reason that the old chunky armor had to go is because it´s just more difficult to paint than the new sleeker models. The biggest ask for new people is having to paint their new models and easier to paint models on the poster boys army makes perfect sense.
With the new edition trailer, ”Sigmar lied” I hope that they go abit more grimdark elite warriors with the Stormcast. With a new AoS normal Human range now in place it would be better to have the Stormcast more akin to custodes in 40K, hence a smaller range of models. Such Stormcast would also be a good introduction/brand army of you can get it on the table without needing too many figures.
I saw the new stormcast hammer guy. And let me tell you that helmet ..... I love the stormcast but i dont know if i will dip into aos because of this. To me the masks jsut don't look good enough. But then again i dont like all the weird stuff on top of helmets. Just want a sleek helmet looking stormcast.
Ngl I myself was considering getting Stormcaat Eternals as my Sigmar army, but I'm also considering Ossiarch Bonereapers as my main army, I just love the idea of a Nagash army, kinda glad I haven't even begun to collect Age of Sigmar yet and I've been focusing on 40k 😅
I don't play or collect AoS, but I have been looking at Stormcast and Skaven as a pickup for D&D models. This refresh will hopefully mean I have cheaper secondhand options in the near future.
I love the new models, I think they're far superior to the older ones (which I also have a lot of!). I still think this was too heavy handed though. I'm still not sure what the reasoning is.
Hearsay, but this might be partially due to internal difficulties within the company. I'm not too knowledgeable, but Honest Wargamer went into details after this latest axe - his knowledge could be off point, but it offers a potential consideration. (Edit: Grammer)
They did EXACTLY the same when they killed off Epic. No notice, no grace period, just gone. It was was utter BS and the reason I walked away from GW. GW will keep doing this so long as people keep giving them money and enabling this behaviour
Literally just got the second half of the Mortal Realms subscription that's been on backorder here in Australia and now all the Stormcast side is just worthless?
Started collecting and painting Stormcast last year and I can’t believe a load of the models I’ve not long bought and painted are being ditched. Can’t help but feel a bit robbed
I already have all the original storm cast models so I'm not super bummed about it, kind of excited to get newer models of all the old ones especially prosecutors because those old models were a nightmare to use
It looks like a big cash grab from GW. So buy all new Minis, and if you want to complete your current Army: Not a chance, they are withdrawn from the store. And that hits a lot of new players that have just started to build an army for AoS.
I don't have a horse in this race, as I just don't like the AOS esthetic (too high fantasy for me), but axing so much of people's army is guaranteed 'feels bad' territory. I especially feel for the Beastman loyalists, who lost the army when they killed WHFB, to move them to AOS, then lost them in AOS to move them back to TOW.
10:24 YES!!!! I love this idea, and the vibes that united Army of the Living against Death and Chaos would be awesome. Not as Grim-Dark, per se, but much more in line with the Noble-Dark of LOTR, which personally I feel like we need another big fantasy epic like that. Evil's out there, but somebody's teaming up to stop it, however it appears.
Jay, If you like the idea of the stormcast be a mix of different factions/races then (off course, this is more for the Nagash lovers) check out the ancient history and the minis for "the cursed company"! They where a Dogs of war unit with skeletal mini's including dwarfs, orcs, skaven to name few and with an incredibly cool backstage!
This was incredibly unsurprising, if anything it was inevitable. With GW's constant issues with keeping kits in stock and the massive bloat of kits in several ranges (Stormcast being one of the more blatant examples) something had to give. I expect more cullings of models in the next few months in the same vein of Forgeworlds Last Chance to Buy debacles.
I was just gifted a set of Stormcast that consists of all these models. It was funny that they're all losing support within a month of me getting them 😂

It's dumb.
and that's why most people can't stand Games Workshop....a-holes
nuking the stormcast eternals is just so crazy to me.
Yes. I wish I could buy some of the older underworlds minis, but... 🤦
Oh you bought the Start Collecting Stormcast or Beasts sets a few years back? GW: Sucks to be you....

The simple argument I give to people saying "you can just use the legends rule" is this:
Brettonian and Tomb Kings still have legends rules in AoS

Jay you are spot on. I have a ton of those models on sprue waiting for my kids to build them, which will seem odd if they don't even have current rules.
I wonder what the actual logistics of the casting plates are. I know some forgeworlds discontinuations were because the mold wore out or broke.

They do that for many years:

This company is beyond sanity. How can anyone justify buying their products at this point? You buy an army, you get the rules and they just nuke it all at the drop of a hat. I did not see it justified to delete old models from rules but now I see no defending this anymore for even the insanest of fanboys.
So are the warcry warbands axed from AOS only or from warcry itself as well?
(Apologies for the wall of text ahead, these ideas have just been percolating for a while and now's as good a time as any to write them down somewhere). Another article I read pointed out that this refresh indicates that these models just weren't connecting with buyers as much as Space Marines, thus prompting GW to go ahead with a more aggressive refresh plan than they might have otherwise. Given how, as you note in the video, the Thunderstrike-style does seem to have been received more positively overall, this makes sense. I think there are maybe two things that could be done to improve things further:
First, one thing they could do to make the Stormcast more interesting would be to see them branch out into more realm-specific subthemes within the range.
No sub-factions now so this won't work.
You misread slightly. You can play beastmen and savage orks COMPETITIVELY until 2025. Noones gonna stop you playing those armies casually. Infact my local gw manager said he'd allow them in his in-store tournaments for as long as they have rules
"as long as they have rules" how long do you think that's going to last?
@@emdeothey’ll get a legends warscroll so indefinitely if you want to make the effort
@@Duplacorn yeah legends warscrolls are such quality, definitely in line with real warscrolls. that's why they're also considered for balancing and such.. oh wait..
GW makes some of the dumbest business decisions I've ever seen and it's a testament to their artists that they are still in bloody business
Speaking as someone who just got the Soul Wars box set, this hurts lol
they gotta force you buy new stuff. what better way than to make your old purchases useless.
anyone now when this min is will retire. a lot of the warcry stuff is out of stock everywhere - do you think there will be another batch to buy, or is it over?
Hey, when are we getting black Templar aggressors????
Not much difference, they just want to sell the same units all over again
Sigmar has a solid argument, “can you not”? It’s crazy to ax that many. Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!!
That beautiful 2022 plastic beast lord. I want it. I share your sentiment on the herdstone.
Sigmar lied that Stormcast are eternals. They are Stprmcast 6 years!
GW flips its customer base the bird yet again.
Hi Jay, do you have any plans to do more painting marathon videos?
A Stormcast skaven has been a kitbash idea in the back of my brain.
The bulky Sigmarines are what first caught my eye and got me into this hobby in the first place, damn shame.
(Edit: Grammer)
they want you to spend $1500 this year instead of $500. thats the reasoning
Branchwraith was removed from Sylvaneth in 2022 battetome. Maybe you confused her with branchwych?
They did EXACTLY the same when they killed off Epic. No notice, no grace period, just gone.
It was was utter BS and the reason I walked away from GW.
GW will keep doing this so long as people keep giving them money and enabling this behaviour
Literally just got the second half of the Mortal Realms subscription that's been on backorder here in Australia and now all the Stormcast side is just worthless?
and people will tell you scanning and printing models is bad, crazy how a company can just get rid of products like this
Imagine loyally collecting the hachette partworks for storm cast 😂😂
The branchwrait was not playable anymore in AOS. I think you are confusing it with the Branchwych
Jay,
If you like the idea of the stormcast be a mix of different factions/races then (off course, this is more for the Nagash lovers) check out the ancient history and the minis for "the cursed company"! They where a Dogs of war unit with skeletal mini's including dwarfs, orcs, skaven to name few and with an incredibly cool backstage!
Backstory instead of backstage
You really just came up with the best way to make the Stormcast cool for real, if only they had not just humans.
It was funny that they're all losing support within a month of me getting them 😂
Around 8k of my 9k Stormcast army is now gone. Good job GW
Feel ya.... most of my army is sacrosanct too..... and they wont be refreshing those, only the older ones :/
