  • All cats do weird things. But some of them could be signaling a problem. In this video I look at four strange things my cats do and why they do them. (Timecodes below) For the most part they can be ignored, but in some cases these strange behaviors can signal that your cat has a problem that you should look into. The video examines: pulling on their back claws, adult suckling, moving soft toys and pawing at smooth surfaces.

My female cat paws at the walls. She usually just does it on one wall right inside my bedroom, but occasionally I will see her do it on the walls throughout the house. The one thing that is unique about her is that she was a feral kitten when I got her. She also moves her toy mice around, quite often when I think about it.

Thanks for the info Rita! So, the pawing of the walls is not just a male thing. Still, I wonder why they do it. I once thought it might be because they thought it was like a door. But I don't think that anymore. Thanks for your comment and for watching!

Our cat moves her toys all over and hides some under the furniture. She doesn’t paw the smooth walls but will sometimes paw glass. It doesn’t appear she wants out but rather that she “sees” something. Thanks for another great vid!

Hi Cyn, thanks for the comment! I wonder if they see a reflection of themselves on glass and are curious about the motion. I know that my cats recognize themselves in a mirror. We'll probably never know. Thanks for watching!

Two of my cats do this with toys. Nicky has carried his toys around doing contact calls, anytime of the day or night. My other cat leaves me one or two toys in my pillow at night. She contact calls, goes to my pillow and starts kneading, purring before settling into sleep.
As for nail chewing, the senior cats do not do it as much so I have to clip and help them shed the nails, otherwise some will become ingrown.
Watching cats is a great pastime, and thanks for showing this with your beautiful videos. It is not like I do not have vey own cats to watch…

My wife and I have a cat sanctuary with about 60 cats and hope to start putting out videos soon. We partitioned off our dining room and kitchen because we can't have too many cats around where we're eating and preparing food. When I'm running late for feeding, numerous cats will start drumming on the wall, and plastic partition. Also it's quite frequent for cats to scratch at a door to come in. We had one cat who passed recently - with our little catnip toy we would say "Weeeee've got a thingeeeee ! And he would run and get it and return and place it at our feet! I have yet to meet in person another cat who does that! Thanks a lot we really enjoy your videos!

Wow, 60 cats! That's great, and an important commitment for cats that need a home! I know what you mean about being late to feed them. They have ways of communicating to let you know! LOL! I am thinking about starting a series on this channel where I interview cat owners. If I do that, I think what you do would be interesting to other cat owners. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

I'm so happy I found your channel! I have a question, maybe you can help. My sister and I live together and our cat, Lucy Lou, is an angel! But lately she has been waking one of us up in the middle of the night and early morning. 2:00 a.m., 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Bless her heart, she stands by one of our beds and meows until we get up. She just wants to walk from room to room with her, get some loving pets, then we can go back to bed. We're both retired and it's wearing us out.😊 Have you ever heard of this behavior? We're home with her most days and she stays very busy with us. Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you so much. God bless you, your precious kitties and your channel.
    🙏💕🙏

This is a tough situation. I think she gets lonely at night. The best solution is another cat, but I know that sometimes that is not possible for various reasons. You might want to watch the two videos below. Thanks so much for watching the channel.

Are Cat Friskies likes to carry around and plays with pipe cleaners and both Cats will place toys around the House! But on the other hand, my playing Washboard and doing Martial arts in the living room, I'm sure looks strange to them (and wearing hats, brushing teeth, Etc.)

Yes, pipe cleaners are a big favorite! If they are twisted, they like to untwist them.
