Change the way you vote. Vote for policies, not parties.
Still means don't vote for democrats! There policies caused this!
that won't do it alone. people have to be vigilant and not drop the ball when it comes to voting in government, but we treat it like a "set it and forget it". everything needs checks and balances, and most people have become more concerned with self and social media instead of real life.
Republicans wouldn't do anything about it either.
They would just turn it into some stupid culture war because that's what they do.
They say anything that they think we want to hear. Then they get in office and do whatever it takes to stay in office for the money. Perhaps we need to take MONEY out of office and see who wants to be there to make things better for the country !!!!!

Wait, i thought calling them "unhoused" was supposed to fix everything? Are you telling me violence and drug use and theft and littering and arson are still rampant?
The problem must be with the term "unhoused". Time to find a new word.

Portland needs new leadership.
Portland needs people to do for themselves and go buy guns, not bother with hoping some politician will save them. You can wait forever waiting for some dumb politician to fix things or you can protect yourself and your community. One will work, one won't.

I had to step over homeless people to get to work. They were sleeping in my office doorway. This was on 2017 and now it's worse.
Agreed. Allowing camping in public is not good for anyone.

I remembered being so enamored by Portland back in the early 2000's. Returning last year was a sad and disappointing experience. I hope things get better for this beautiful city.
If they employ me it will get better
"once" beautiful City. Take your tax dollars and move away
At least you live in a condo (private property). I live in Senior Citizen Housing (private property leasing to the government). They’re taking homeless vouchers for permanent housing. Sounds so nice. But, these are people that have been on the streets of California for decades. I didn’t know that when I moved in. The very first day I moved in, I was hit in the head with a miniature baseball bat. She lived next door to me and wasn’t arrested. But the “nice” police officers took the bat away from her. I didn’t know her name to put on a restraining order. The property manager and apartment staff couldn’t tell me her name. Due to privacy issues. Although they didn’t have any problems telling me that they would love to see her go. That happened September 2022 and I didn’t get her put out until February 2023. I no longer think of the world as having communities all over. It’s a place full of serial killers and thieves. Watch your back and only go outside if necessary !!!!!
A bucket of gasoline would take care of that camp
Aaand you're the next arson suspect, Professor Big Brain.
If laws were actually enforced there big brain might have something to worry about
How about making them responsible for their actions and put them in jail. Compassion is dead in Portland it's time for tuff love. These people need to be rescued from themselves.
i agree. make public street drug use illegal again.
@Zorsha
Make public drug use illegal again or make drug use illegal again? I never use my drugs in public. What about alcohol and drunk drivers? Oh yeah, everyone ignores that. It's not alcohol and drugs, It's drugs which includes alcohol and cigarettes. Stop saying drugs when you clearly do not actually mean drugs. You just mean certain drugs

To be fair, there was supposed to be expanded drug treatment provided for by the measure. And then Oregon has a dramatically low number of public defenders because of budget cuts, so the DA is forced to drop/not press charges because by law these people need representation if charged. And, finally, several states move their homeless to federal districts that don’t criminalize homelessness if there aren’t shelter beds available, so Oregon has to deal with the errors of other states’ policies.
Do you really believe this all has to do with drugs alone? Please.
@@Encephalitisifyyes 3/4 of it is drug related
What's even more disheartening is when you have purchased a condo or house, have a viable business etc., and you can't just move. The disabled folks should sue the city under the Americans With Disabilities Act. It sure as hell works on business owners.

Honestly, we are paying such high property taxes but still have to put up with the filth on our streets and the entirely incompetent city "leadership "...
its funny when property taxes are soooo high yet you get NOTHING at all for them. isnt that why the american revolution started?? people need to either vote the dems out now or leave very soon. i bet if the money ran out and the homeless were camped by the politicians house then they would bring the hammer down. the fact that 1 person would vote for a democrat in portland for anything baffles me. either stand up or get out. time to try something different! or its time for another American revolution
This is what happens with a dysfunctional city government. It takes a lawsuit to get them to take action and then they still fall short. The answer is actually quite simple. Tell the homeless you can't sleep on sidewalks. If you do, we will arrest you and put you in jail. It's that simple.
This is what happens when every RepubliKKKan state sends by bus, FOR FREE, their problems to states that are actually spending money on their OWN homeless/addiction!! problem. They better remove all incentives typical of a sanctuary city to keep the sheer numbers of homeless bums from overwhelming the system. I say it as it not being overwhelmed yet but .. we know it is. Meanwhile, Portland has lots of people that aren't homeless but need barred and guarded assisted living as well
Sleeping on sidewalks or whatever isnt crime, its a fundamental right to sleep. You cant see that the govt pays for their drug use every month? Its all by design. I can remove problematic scum for $250 for the risk. Ive dine it for years
Arrest them, put them in jail. Now they are no longer homeless. Problem solved.
More like tell the homeless they can’t sleep on the sidewalk anymore, if they do, people are going to bring baseball bats and kick them in the nuts. Jail doesn’t serve justice anymore.
I hope all these people get a good lawyer and Sue city of Portland for not even being able to walk on the sidewalk that the taxpayers all pay for I think it will take a lot of lawsuits to get their attention before they finally figure out right from wrong
Toyo12 In Portland it seems the Bums and crazys are a protected class. Get a concealed carry permit, and learn how to safely use a firearm. Hope you never need to use a gun, but your safety is on you ,since the police are not able to get to most crimes until after the fact. Criminals generally go after an easy target, make yourself a hard target. It's your life.
At the very least I bet a can of mace would dissuade them from attacking.
The homeless industrial complex, the rehabilitation industrial complex, the prison industrial complex, the legal industrial complex. Too much compassion is the cause. No one wants to be the bad guy.
Any industrial complex eventually only cares about growing larger, promoting from within and creating management positions for the people who came in at the start. Solving the problem that created them does not help that cause.
Compassion? Lol

Well stated!

We used to live right by these two women on Naito and they are the sweetest people and never mentioned anything about the attacks they endured. Our little dogs made friends! I knew these encampments were to be avoided but this just makes me angry.
Human beings! Help everybody bin the community mindset. When people work together or find solutions it works out better for all!
Both of those women seem
(and sound sweet) as hell 😢 it's so sad that it is not safe at all for them. I'm less familiar w/that area (suppose I should look it up/google earth🤔) are they totally trapped in their complex like either direction will take them in to the danger zone type of thing ?
When I lived back home in San Francisco when I lived in the upper Haight and Fillmore area (on Fell st & Webster st) I found myself living in between x2 rough (Haight st & Webster st.) projects.
I quickly learned where I could and could not be an at what time.
Like on way to work in the morning I had to get down to Market Street for the very first BART train to Oakland which meant leaving my apartment before sunrise. An at that time of morning I could walk right past Webster st projects & stand at a bus stop had I wanted & what have you. There were no busses on my street (Fell st) cause it was a street that the freeway exited on to & twice a day (rush hour) you couldnt even park on it or your at risk of being towed !
Anyways, on my way back home from work direction I'd be tired and I'd want to take a bus back up to my home. Cuz those are really steep serious streets you got to climb right there so the bus is much better . But that's a tricky thing also at the time of day I'll be heading home anyways the first day I took the bus I got off one street over right at my cross street of Webster that I walked right past on my way to work when everything was closed and the projects were asleep. But boy do they come alive by 5:00. The bus kind of had a part people as it was driving up the street because people were everywhere and my bus stop was right across from the liquor store but I had to try and walk past and then walk a block to the next corner to my where my apartment was. OMG was that treacherous and I only did that one time. I'd have to take that bus up to the top of the hill up to Fillmore Street past my house walking to the block and then walk another block down back to my apartment. Yeah it was an inconvenience and very tiring sad but completely safer. Like night and day difference. And like when I was still living in Oakland A friend of mine lived over off Telegraph I lived off Broadway and there's a big difference between Telegraph and Broadway down to around 20th Street in Oakland. My friend used to wear extra clothes to leave her place or to return to her place and carry the backpack to put the extra clothes into because she couldn't walk through that area dressed as a girl basically it was just definitely more dangerous. So she would have to bring extra clothes like somebody sneaking out of their parents house to go to a nightclub or something it was crazy . I mean I can see perhaps having to take an Uber or a cab out of where those two ladies in this news story live you know. I mean not like all the way to their destination because not everybody can afford that right. But sometimes you got to take a cab even if it's only 1/8 of the way to where you're going or an eighth of the way back to your house from where you came from. Just to be safe. But in a way I don't know if the city should have to perhaps give them a discount to do that kind of thing or something or a certain amount of passes a month or something I don't know but they got to do something to be safe that's just crazy. I finally down there I think I'm trying to get a group of people that left that area and came back to that area at the same time and had some people that walked with them you know armed I guess with trained attack dogs escorts you know just in and out of that area or something IDK real estate people always say it's smart if you're going to move someplace don't just check it out one day because you never know exactly they always say you want to check it out and then you want to check it out again like on a Saturday or Sunday see if it looks different compared to on the weekday and then you definitely want to come back at night and see if it looks the same at night. But that's just regarding neighborhoods not regarding neighborhoods that have mobile temporary Camp neighborhoods that set up randomly and get chased from one side of town to the other you never know what you're going to be facing or when . I mean it's about as exact as shopping at a canned food Outlet or something you know like you never know for certain what they're going to have . And that's how Portland is now with temporary living situations popping up and every day they're supposed to what tearing down during the day and put them back up at night who knows you can go to bed one night and wake up the next morning and then not be safe because there's people living out there. But I'm on social security so I live paycheck to paycheck myself it's just one bad luck situation that could put me on the street too. Cuz it's so hard to find a place to move to specially if you don't drive and it's hard to drive in the city anymore because if you don't have a garage to put your car in there's no guarantee it's going to be there the next day I wouldn't even let people come visit me where I live who have a car because you're not allowed to park in the parking lot and it's quite a ways to the street areas to park and is a gamble your risk of losing your car if you come visit me where I live. And that's just horrible. Anyways I worry about that both of those girls in the story especially the one that they tried to kill that's horrifying. Because that's what that was, most definitely SMH people are horrible. It's one thing being homeless but it's another thing to be absolutely horrible that's a big difference.
I know of two companies that make a repulsive scent agent that if just sprayed on those tents BY MISTAKE OF COURSE will clear the entire place in minutes.

cant?? more like wont. laws without enforcement are meaningless its just a way for them to say we made laws against that so idiots will believe that and vote for them again. that plan sure seems to work pretty well in portland and alot of other places. its time for good people to rise and make your voices heard so that the idiots are in the minority and these fraud democrats get kicked out of office. what do you have to lose in trying a different approach from a republican? the bad thing is they would rescind those laws then because they know the republican would enforce it. they would also make laws so we cant enforce stuff. thats why all democrats must be voted out of every office immediately. time for a different approach before its too late.
Why they complaining. It’s what they have been voting for!
It wouldn’t be allowed but Portland gets funding for these people. How those funds are used is also questionable.
if they put them in jail where it might actually help them get clean they couldnt pocket all that cash they are getting from federal government. but hey keep voting for democrats its a free country allegedly.
Being threatened and assaulted these days is normal and accepted and protected by law. There is nothing anyone will ever do about this, you need to move.
I bring mace and a rape whistle in my purse. I’m from Long Beach California and the homeless are extremely aggressive and violent out here . I’m not afraid to spray them with a big can of bug spray
Fun fact, is cheaper to medically house any who can't care for itself than to clean up for $2 million tax money, stocks on services make mad money, yikes!.
If the new ordinance is in place, hook up to the fire hydrants and hose those camps off the sidewalks; quit being nice to criminals. $8,000,000 should cover the cost of the water used!
Portland and many other cities have provided the perfect habitat for junkies and other criminals by decriminalizing illicit drugs and the lack of law enforcement. Talked to a portland cop who said nothing has been told to them to do anything different since these camping bans started.
The homeless are classified as "non revenue" by the Police. Accordingly, it costs the police money to arrest or fine the homeless. The Police would have to provide meals and a jail cell and then a public defender. The Police are "johnny on the spot" for issuing parking tickets and moving violations tickets as those generate income for the city / county.
There are two sets of rules. Checking Account holders have to follow rules and regulations. The un-banked can do anything they want with no repercussions. I am actually very jealous of the un-banked as they have complete freedom and overly compassionate people assisting them. It is like being a child and just crying for assitance and receiving it unconditionally.
So true.

I speak from painful previous experience. Many renters/homeowners make the very same mistake that domestic violence victims do. That is, trying endlessly and fruitlessly to change their tormentors ( vagrants and politicians) behavior, instead of simply changing their own. Be recognizing reality and then selling out and moving on. Fair?!? No! Sanity and Life saving?!? Yes!! You will notice in many of these videos, that people are more upset by the mayors failure to act than they are the "homeless" themselves. But I see now that the story is changing and people are refusing to put up with this insanity any more. That brightens my day...
At least Ukraine has an excuse for being in ruins.. this open air dump and tax slave colony doesn't.. we need to keep such "fair government" and "justice" from being imported into Ukraine... It's that way about everything I guess. From skin cancer to railroad crossing safety...You simply have to keep dropping and dropping the price until it DOES sell. @@Kharkovkid this same issue is going on in my city in Texas. problem is, no one can sell. housing prices have skyrocketed, but people come around to look and leave quickly when they see what's going on with drug trafficking on the streets. so basically the only saving grace would be selling to some corporation on the cheap, which in turn in the long run is what governments want. they want you to "own nothing and be happy". corps take the properties, flip them to rentals, and basically steal land from everyone. you can only run so far, and some can't run at all. I don't think you have a bad take, but like most things there's not one way to deal with problems. You CAN clean up an area, I'm doing it now, about a year in. We've shut down four drug houses and drastically cut down on criminal traffic by a good 99%. Part of it also was getting TABC to raid a bar that was being used for drug trafficking and selling to minors, where monthly shootings would happen. People can make change, but they can't do it by going to meetings and putting messages on social media, they have to take action by utilizing the city resources that we pay for. People have to be persistent and put in effort, they have to have conviction. Outside of that, yeah, just sell to a corporation that's going to turn your house into a rental and continue to erode the landownership of americans.
@@Janzer_ My realtor used to call me BEFORE any showing. Long enough to race over, clean house and get the homeless off the property. It worked! Until the day it didn`t. We had taken the prospective buyer all the way up to the pre closing walk thru. I had chased off the vagrants, and decided to hang out next door, to spy on the final inspection. This was doabale because as per custom, the seller and buyer were kept apart. So as far as he knew, I was just a neighbor. they were doing the insection. A Carck Head that knew me, walked over and wanted to know if I was interested in buying used underwear he had stolen from a laundromat. My next words cost me the sale. Instead of bluffing him and saying, "Yeah! Maybe! Show it to me over here!" and dragging him away from site, it all got to me and I exploded on him verbally. I then warned him severely to NOT go next door and ruin my sale. So he looked me right in the eye and did just that. I saw him harrassing my buyers and watched dumbsturck as they raced to their car and backed up so hard, they rammed the curb across the street. I knew then, it was over. My realtor called me shortly after, confirming what I already knew. they never went to closing after being confronted by the crack head. Woulda shoulda coulda...
@@Janzer_ My problem was.... I WAS the bar!!! Or it used to be. Also, the biggest mistake I made was thinking I could simply clean it up once and be done with it. It dindt work out that way at all... Like trying to hold back the tide with a tea spoon
Maybe the people should take the law into their own hands. See if the city continues to make excuses and look away.
Lol I told my wife when we were there last week that this place is Gotham City minus the Batman 😅😂🤣🤣😂😅
We all know what needs to be done, but no one will do what needs to be done.
Hitler that horrific man, he thought in those lines too.
Repeal the 19th.
I needed to use the restroom really badly when I was by that camp that they were speaking of I knew of these pair of bucket toilets that were right inside of a container that is used to store homeless people stuff during the days anyway there's two Honey Buckets on the end of the 40-foot container they are so filthy and I'm not sure how many people know why they are that way they don't want people regular people using them because they want to be able to shoot up in them but that's what they do and that's why you never want to use those toilets
Next time, after moving the encampment for the sixth time, have cops patrol the area and arrest any strays.
Drove through Portland first time yesterday. Im still in shock. NEVER seen anything like that. Worst city i ever visited. Scary as hell
ADA lawsuit
NO SETTLEMENT
Ok dont buy a condo near hobo camp
All of Portland is a homeless camp.😂
Blame the victim, so helpful.
@larryj1048 yes i am blaming the victim here. Maybe before signing a lease.... or in her case... a mortgage for a condo.... maybe walk around the block and see if there is a huge hobo camp?
are these the condos where some have gone into bankruptcy? asking for an investor...
I don't see Portland Oregon getting back to normal anytime soon. I never go to Portland unless I have to go because I have a friend who went down to see the fireworks show and his windows and tites were slash and windows were broken out and they didn't take anything.
How dare that guy say ''this is a relatively new thing''. BS! we left in 2003 because of this very thing. In a few years the city was racing to the bottom of the toilet. It seemed they care more for criminals than they ever did tax paying citizens. What you tolerate will continue.
We left, never looked back. Sometimes I check in, all that happens is I am comforted that we did the right thing by getting tf out of there.
Here’s a thought, maybe the city and well meaning homeless advocates should stop handing out tents and tarps they inevitability will have to take down and toss in the trash at the next camp cleanup? Futility
Well then if the police do nothing then it's time for people to take the law into their own hands and remove these drugged out bums any way necessary. We are sick and tired of excuses why we need to tolerate and show compassion to these rats who do nothing but make more and more bigger rat nests.
Hopefully Kurt Russle isn't too old to play Snake Pliskin one more time in escape from Portland then Seattle.
When I visited Portland, I really liked the city but didn’t like how it seemed that homelessness and perfectly physically able young people begging for money seemed to be encouraged. Sounds like since then it’s gotten 100x worse.
Shame on America.
Don't lump in all America with your collective mentality.

The results of "defund the police ".
Wow dude. This is insane. How tf can this exist when literally neighbors are getting attacked and severely injured.
Get rid of the drugs
Are you including alcohol? Drunk drivers kill a lot of people but people who are against drugs don't care. It's alcohol AND drugs right? Not just drugs
Durrr...I wonder what happened to quality of life in Portland....Durrr I think I'll vote for Tina Kotek and Ted Wheeler again...Durrrrr....
its unfortunate that the only reason they got elected was to keep out the Trump republicans, who would have handled this issues by throwing everyone in prison.
The city says, the people in the camp just need hugs from the local residents, and everything will be ok once they all bond.
Hugs and warm soup.

Three meals and the hug of warm cot right there in jail
Your taxes are the only thing that matter to politicians
Why would city officials listen to property owners and residents.
Every country has the government it deserves. Hope they remember that scare next time they vote.
This has been an issue long before the current Administration. We need more Affordable Housing. We need Republicans to do better! Trump divided the Republican Party. A divided party will not win an election. Republicans need to accept the fact, we believed every lie Trump told us. Until Republicans can do better. American People will choose the lesser of two evils.

Move the homeless to the Mojave Desert. Mel Gibson will be the new mayor of Barter Town since Tina Turner is in a more peaceful place.
It is unbelievable that Portland PD cannot arrest drug dealers. $8 million allocated to clean up sidewalks? I could do it with three fire trucks hosing the sidewalks every morning at 6am, followed by city streets department to throw everything in dump trucks for the landfill. Period. Three weeks, every morning, hose it down, all done. Budget $500,000 in overtime pay.
Only one person was arrested??lots of officers🤦🏻🤷
when are all the homeless from california coming to portland?
they are here man
This is what happens when every RepubliKKKan state sends by bus, FOR FREE, their problems to states that are actually spending money on their OWN homeless/addiction!! problem. All of this started during the pandemic, churches, govt programs gave away FREE BUS TICKETS TO THEIR DRUG ADDICTED because they didn't have ANYTHING SET UP TO HELP THEIR OWN CITIZENS!!!! STOP blaming the policymakers and blane those TRULY RESPONSIBLE!! Those states that WRONGLY gave us the problems THEY didnt want!!!

NOBODY going to take someone who doesn't know how to.spell "ELIMINATE" SERIOUSLY😂😂😂 Get a H.S. diploma or GED, learn the language spoken/written in this country and THEN worry about other problems!!! Only think worse than the drugs and crime in Portland is the complaining. What did you think would happen? I mean. C’mon
There was an episode of Star Trek DS 9 that featured a place called a Sanctuary District . A walled off area of town where the down and out were housed and kept apart from the general population . It seemed cruel and inhumane when I first saw it , but as these problems with mentally ill and drug edited homeless become more prolific and problematic it starts to seem like a solution . I suggest this with only a partial tongue in check. I do believe we should help the functional homeless who just cant afford a place , but we shouldn't waste time on those who cant or wont be helped.
Wouldn't be the first time Star Trek featured concepts we use today.
Let me guess, they get the desert and you get the ocean?

"Past Tense", set in 2024.
The episode was about how the inequalities in society led to such a dire situation.
You can't fix the problem by just sweeping it under the rug. There are people with full-time jobs who are homeless because jobs don't pay a living wage. Look how much money Walmart brings in, yet they pay their employees so little that they end up on food stamps.
Only the homeless people committing crimes should be locked up.
TFW when you buy a condo and then after the sale you realize it is in the middle of FETTY TOWN.
Sue the City of portland and the mayor, the city council.
So defunding the police, didn't work out too well for you huh? Why don't you get one of those peace ambassador's, they should straighten the homeless encampments right up! 😹

Wow! Even the street signs are in Spanish!!
Wow who would have thought that letting a bunch of drug addled homeless people run amok would have resulted in situations like this. In all seriousness these people need to be put into open air prison camps, away from the general public.

I guarantee if they did, those homeless people would have better relations with them, but instead their backs are turned to the needless suffering they could help reduce.
