Apparently, Jack Sparrow's "drunken swagger" was actually the cause of spending more time on a ship than on land. It was a common thing amongst pirates and sailors. Apparently it was hard for some to walk on solid ground, because a ship is always shifting and moving so they'd have to constantly be leaning to keep balance. Whereas on land, it's unnecessary. Many of the times that you see Jack Sparrow stumbling, he's actually decently sober.
Yea that's what the terms "sea legs/land legs" come from. It's because you have to adjust to walking on a boat then readjust to walking on land after being out at sea for weeks or even months at a time
The stumble into the parapet at the end when he falls off the wall is also probably intentional, at least partly. He knows that's where Elizabeth fell, and she obviously survived, so the closest thing to "safe" under the circumstances for getting away was to fall in as close a manner as possible. And of course he knows she fell there because he's the one who rescued her in the first place.
It got worse because they made Jack Sparrow the main character. In the first movie he was a support character and Will was the main one. But I guess everyone loved Jack so much they decided to go with it.
This is one of those movies that never gets old for me. The score, the direction, the small details throughout - everything about it is great and I love every moment of it. I watched this in the theater on release and it was such an adventure. Fun fact, they originally had Hugh Jackman in mind for the role of Jack Sparrow, but Disney didn't think he was a "big enough" star at the time so they went with Depp.
It’s a movie that you kinda forget about but once you watch it again it goes into your top ten, it’s a shame the later movies destroy the magic of the franchise
When it comes to Johnny Depp, its been in courts and seems like he was the victim in that whole situation. God bless anyone whos been a victim of any type of abuse. No one deserves it. Much love and excited for this series
Many times I think women are unfairly called crazy in situations where they behave as anyone would- in Amber Heard's case she literally cut off his fingertip so I would say she is nuts as hell
@@BichaeldeAngelo It's not even right to call her crazy as that puts more stigma on mental illnesses. She's just fcking abusive call it what it is and don't scapegoat it.
Curious about the East India Trading Company? They were the Amazon of their day, they controlled most of the british shipping trade worldwide, and had more money and power than pretty much any government at the time. While they were a private company you can think of them as an extension of the british empire, establishing colonies along trade routes and where valuable exotic goods could be acquired.

Also if you’ve pkayed Assassin Creed Black Flag, which is one kf my favorite games ever then they’ll feel right at home. A lot of the real life pirates from AC4 are featured in black sails, like Charles Vane, Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Benjamin Hornigold and Blackbeard. All of them had major parts in AC4.

I remember being like 14 or 15 or whatever going and seeing this with a friend, in an empty theater in the Midwest haha probably a couple weeks after release, but dang that is a solid memory of the opening scene all up in my face. I remember it so vividly. I love the original trilogy. They're all solid films.
The character of Jack was originally written for Hugh Jackman, and he had to be a very classic pirate, one of those from the movies of the 60s, a normal killer but good in heart pirate etc etc. Johnny Depp then arrived and completely changed his character, practically forcing the writers to readjust everything. Depp basically created a person, giving him those many little tics that Jack is famous for, as well as the way of speaking (he uses several different accents all together) and everything we already know. His Oscar nomination for this role was well deserved.
9:05 I think "forgin' my steel" definitely involves pummeling a rod until it glows red hot, then dousing it with liquid while the room fills with steam.
14:25 he basically calling her a fancy decoration. Poppits is basically beads you drill hole in and put the string through it and of course other beads or similar items. Then be used for necklace, tied to hair, decorate wall etc.
What I enjoy most about these react videos is that they aren't too over the top and heavily produced. Jen isn't trying to lay it on thick that she hasn't the material which makes her thoughts and reactions more genuine and interesting. I love having this channel on in the background while I work. I just want to take a moment to appreciate Hans Zimmer, his work on this series, the earlier DCEU movies, the dark knight trilogy, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are some of my favorites. Even though Klaus Badelt is technically responsible for this one Electro's Theme and Wonder Woman's are still highlights Easily my second-favorite composer just behind Danny Elfman
Hans Zimmer wrote all the music for this film, but he was working on something else at the time so he wasn't allowed to attach his name to it. So, he got his apprentice Klaus Badelt to conduct the orchestra for him. Still more of a Zimmer score than anything.
I laughed so much when Will Turner gets Sand thrown in his face and we can hear Anakin tell how much he hates it, with his calm tone...It was amazing ! Thanks Holden !
Zoe Saldana said this experience on set was so bad that it almost made her quit acting, but she got a role in The Terminal and working with Steven Spielberg changed her mind
I’m so happy you guys are doing this series!!!! The Pirates franchise is amazing and I don’t know why more people don’t revisit it, thank you guys for reacting to this!
Pirates are largely glorified today because a lot of historians believe that a lot of the horrors about pirates was propaganda. The reason they think that is because of how pirate society was and that a lot of the ships targeted were slave ships which had barely any valuables. A lot of pirates were freed slaves. So some theorise that pirates were freedom fighters who created their own society that was a safe place for all people. A lot we’re also gay. There’s also a widely theorised background to Black Beard who was the most villainised of the pirates. Some evidence suggests that Black Beard was a mixed race and was white passing. His family home was once a plantation, but the slaves were freed. His father a high ranking member of society, yet his mother was completely unknown. The plantation was burnt down and everyone was suspected to have died, only Edward Teach who’d later become Black Beard survived. It’s widely suspected his mother was a freed slave and the plantation was burnt down when people found out it was a mixed household. Black Beard’s crew was majority Black and took in next to no wealth. The only ships they targeted were slave ships. So it’s widely suspected he was the one who freed the most slaves. Of course some pirates were vile people, but it seems as though not all of them were. Unfortunately we’re unlikely to ever know for certain. But most evidence does suggests the villainy was false.
14:27 Poppet: noun 1. INFORMAL•BRITISH an endearingly sweet or pretty child or young girl (often used as an affectionate form of address). "“Here you are, poppet,” the nurse said" 2. HISTORICAL a small figure of a human being used in sorcery and witchcraft.
The thing I love about this movie was the fact there was 3 separate factions: The British, the Undead, and the Pirate. The interactions between the three, I think, makes the movie better than just having a protagonist and antagonist.
Honestly, I find the entire Pirates of the Caribbean film series an enjoyable popcorn movies. I'm glad you guys are reacting to this. Plus, thank you Holden for making a shout out to my favorite videogame Kingdom Hearts!
Always love watching with you guys! My wife’s name is Jennifer too. I think it’s cool the directors said that on Johnny Depp’s first shoot (the scene of Sparrow and Barbosa in the ship cabin and Sparrow eating the apple), they were initially thrown by Depp’s antics. Depp developed all of Sparrow’s eccentricities on his own and sprung it on them and they initially thought maybe they made a mistake hiring him. But they played along with it and eventually realized it was genius; and you could argue it’s why the movie franchise is a success today.
The part where depp throws sand on Orlando with anakin and hating sand got me that was great Edit: I stand corrected all those cuts to star wars and lord of the rings where great what a great laugh
There's a video out there about the visual storytelling that goes on in this film, and the level of it is insane. SO much information is dumped on you in every scene, but like 90% of it is visual. You learn everything you need to know without them having to exposition you to death. It is a remarkably well structured and written film. It's also just a hell of a lot of fun. I remember when this came out, going to the theater and no one had a freaking clue what we were in for. It looked fun, but we had no idea.
The ship they use in this film to portray the HMS Interceptor is a ship called Lady Washington. She also served as the HMS Enterprise for the opening scene in Star Trek: Generations, where Worf was promoted and dropped off the plank.
To answer your question that you already answerd yourself. There is a adult show that is about pirates. It called "Black Sails" and it's a really good show. The show is based on a lot of pirates that actually lived like Anne Bonny, Benjamin Hornigold, Jack Rackham, Charles Vane, Ned Low, Israel Hands and Blackbeard and more. Some are fictional. Jack Sparrow is based on the real pirate Jack Rackham. Really loved that show. It's on Netflix

The stumble into the parapet at the end when he falls off the wall is also probably intentional, at least partly. Yeah, I also got to know what the mystery pirate show is!
Black Sails is my favourite thing of all time, there are no words to describe it. Everyone I've seen react to it or watch it in real life have all said it's top tier, it would be great if they react to it at one point!
I.. Sadly know the movies you're speaking off.
18:17 i always saw it as just him joking around with the crew. He doesn’t feel it but they get the joke he is trying to make
Just came back to this and noticed you used Pirates 3 Will/Elizabeth in the thumbnail lol has how no one mentioned it
The show Black Sails is a must watch, it's really good
I was also thinking of black sails for a more mature audience , it's the only show/movie that i can think of actually (pirates related)
OMG, I have waited so long for this.
This is possibly my favourite franchise. The first trilogy is brilliant!
We don't talk about *Dead Men Tell No Tales...*
I still haven't seen that one!😂 Should I watch it?
@@antviper135 I mean, do what you want, but I can't stand it. The fourth I can still enjoy, but the fifth I have to skip. It's just not Captain Jack...
@@BigScreenMovies Yea I actually enjoyed Stranded Tides, and I didn't even know there was a fifth until last year😂
@@BigScreenMovies in my own opinion, 4th was even worse than 5th
maybe it was the nostalgia factor, but I couldn't stand some of the 4th main characters
You mean we don't talk about Stranded Tides, because fifth one is SO much better than that garbage.
Black Sails is a must. It's the best TV show I've ever watched. The plot and characters are so detailed and engrossing.
Black Sails is fantastic and Captain Flint is one of the most badass main characters ever. So many quotable lines.
9:44 "Hello Chump!"
THAT's where Bully Maguire got his line from!!😮
this franchise made me take disney live action movies seriously. great franchise. wait for number 2 its the best. btw jen i dig the friends shirt. holden was cracking me up with the dirty jokes.
Johnny Depp is the heart and soul of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, sucks what he went through in his personal life😔
"I'm in the market...as it were.." best line in the movie. Cracks me up every time.
Hi
His Oscar nomination for this role was well deserved.
it really gives to the fun watching you guys seeing Jens face when Holden makes a naughty joke :D
9:05
I think "forgin' my steel" definitely involves pummeling a rod until it glows red hot, then dousing it with liquid while the room fills with steam.
Holdan's 'Dirty Talk' is so to the point. Jen plays the outraged about the camera. But in reality she likes it. It's so funny😂👏
14:25 he basically calling her a fancy decoration. Poppits is basically beads you drill hole in and put the string through it and of course other beads or similar items. Then be used for necklace, tied to hair, decorate wall etc.
"National Treasure" is another good Disney franchise to get into.
They definitely need to watch those before the spin-off show destroys the name
Poppet is just a regionalism in England.
It's the same as love, sweetheart, darling etc.
12:15 Will with Luke’s face killed me ☠️🤣
What I enjoy most about these react videos is that they aren't too over the top and heavily produced. Jen isn't trying to lay it on thick that she hasn't the material which makes her thoughts and reactions more genuine and interesting. I love having this channel on in the background while I work. Thanks guys!
I just want to take a moment to appreciate Hans Zimmer, his work on this series, the earlier DCEU movies, the dark knight trilogy, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are some of my favorites. Even though Klaus Badelt is technically responsible for this one
Electro's Theme and Wonder Woman's are still highlights
Easily my second-favorite composer just behind Danny Elfman
Hans Zimmer wrote all the music for this film, but he was working on something else at the time so he wasn't allowed to attach his name to it. So, he got his apprentice Klaus Badelt to conduct the orchestra for him. Still more of a Zimmer score than anything.
Hans behind Elfman? I will fight for my man Hans.
@Nicholas Riddick three words: Batman and Spider-Man
Didn't know I need this, but I do!!!
Edit: 11:04 I was waiting for something like this!!! This had me dying!!
Please do Black Sails! I can't praise that show enough, it's one of the best shows out there for sure.
lmao, I loved the starwars edits in this. Great job!
Thank you Justin!
We need a compilation of Holden making dirty jokes and Jen saying "Holden Thomas Hardman" that Sh*t is hilarious
I laughed so much when Will Turner gets Sand thrown in his face and we can hear Anakin tell how much he hates it, with his calm tone...It was amazing ! Thanks Holden !
Black Sails is a very adult pirate show, and so damn good! Must watch
Zoe Saldana said this experience on set was so bad that it almost made her quit acting, but she got a role in The Terminal and working with Steven Spielberg changed her mind
"Black Sails" would be a fantastic reaction series !
14:27 Poppet: noun
1.
INFORMAL•BRITISH
an endearingly sweet or pretty child or young girl (often used as an affectionate form of address).
"“Here you are, poppet,” the nurse said"
2.
HISTORICAL
a small figure of a human being used in sorcery and witchcraft.
That movie is a classic in the early 2000's. It's my favorite of the series.
The edits are getting better and better. Just so much more than a normal reaction I love it.
Thank you Daniel!
I love the trilogy so much. "What a ship is... is freedom."
The part where depp throws sand on Orlando with anakin and hating sand got me that was great
Edit: I stand corrected all those cuts to star wars and lord of the rings where great what a great laugh
I absolutely adore these movies, I’ve been waiting for this reaction since I found your channel!
I feel like a good follow up after the pirates trilogy would be the Indiana Jones movies, they’re some of the best action adventure movies made!
Well guys, you've definitely got to watch Black Sails now 😊
Holden, all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have after credits scenes!
I would lose my shit if you started watching Black Sails. One of, if not the best written show I have ever watched.
Hahaha. The editing in this video with the references to othe movies was next level! Hahahaha
You should definitely watch black sails. The show's awesome
Don't forget the post credit scenes! They started them before marvel did lol
Yes would love to see you guys do a mgw "Black Sails"
Adult show about Pirates: Black Sails
Its absolutley incredible and suprisingly not many people know about it.
Not sure if anyone said it but if you want an adult pirate show, watch black sails. It's crazy good
The ship they use in this film to portray the HMS Interceptor is a ship called Lady Washington. She also served as the HMS Enterprise for the opening scene in Star Trek: Generations, where Worf was promoted and dropped off the plank.
Black Sails is the answer you’re looking for. It’s fantastic!
It’s also gives people who love both Pirates of the Caribbean and John Wick, something awesome to look forward too! Can’t wait to see your reactions!
“Wouldn’t mind him forging my steel” that got me 😂
Interlacing your top two pics is brilliant. Kudos to the patreon that suggested it.
Glad yer doin both
To answer your question that you already answerd yourself.
I was on holiday in Dublin years ago. Me and the guys I was with went to the main cinema to see what was on. Turns out they were having the Irish premiere of this movie. We hung around to see who was showing up. Got to see Kiera (didn’t meet). But then some assistant lady gave us free tickets for in and we watched it.
