- Since the news of my permanent move to Canada broke out, I have received several questions revolving around why we decided to move? Especially after living in Japan for almost 6 years and to be honest I knew those questions will come up. Hopefully this video gives answers to your questions.

Canada is the deal. I just finished my masters in Tokyo and will start PhD in October in Tokyo also. Will be following your steps and hope Canada still remain welcoming by the time I will be done. Japan is a first world country with a standard of living that is the same as the United States and Canada.Its majorly language barrier and maybe environmental concern because of earthquake that would make most Nigerians leave Japan for Canada.If u are good at learning languages,there is nothing special about UK and Canada.
Perfectly said. I struggle with Japanese but my husband has N1. but I will still choose japan many many times over these places. Its a cultural and language struggle in japan for many foreigners, with that I will say that you should move to a place you think you can be ok. But Dr. Chilo shouldn`t give `some` misinformed reasons.

I had this language barrier back in Turkey after 3 years I couldn’t still adapt with the language that’s really crazy this language issue

@@Chilotalks I think tech is still pretty affected by language because I’ve been looking at jobs in Japan and I noticed a lot of the jobs were still asking for a daily conversation level or n3 level. I think that’s still quite a significant requirement when you think about how there are many companies you can apply to Europe without needing to speak with local language if you’re in tech. lol
But it’s definitely a lower requirement than other fields so you’ll still see quite a few foreigners working in tech and finance outside of teaching English

As a graduate of higher learning you should have done your research, it is very clear cut points system, you have a phd, studied in Japan you will get 70 points on your permanent resident application. You do not have to be constantly changing work visas. I did my Phd and got permanency 3 years later...oh I got my residency before you even came to Japan. So do not give inaccurate information

Even now, most couples prefer the HSP visa to PR in order to bring parents when they give birth.
But she clearly mentioned that there was a point system to residency in Japan and that out of every 10 persons, 5 would have a PR, but it's not exactly defined for all 5 of them.
Sometimes, we should try to watch these videos objectively and without bias. Her subscribers based cuts across people from all works of life. For some people, PR only is not the goal, they want a 2nd passport, so after PR, what next? Does Japan offer dual citizenship?
She clearly stated that they are foreigners with PR in Japan, but the process is not a one size fits all and doesn't eventually lead to dual citizenship. So what's the fuss all about?

Such a paradox. While the Japanese remain in their country despite natural disasters, we are leaving ours in droves despite the abundant natural resources. This fundamental issue, so so visible even to the blind. It’s well
I feel you should know japan is a developed country. They have a really strong government that priotise the safety of their citizens. You can't compare it to Nigeria where the government hinders the progress of its citizens. I left Nigeria as a kid and I am glad I did cause I was able to achieve multiple degrees even at a very young age while my age mates are still writing jamb. Like be for real. The so called natural resources aren't enjoyed by the normal citizens but the so called government who embezzle and tarnish the name of the country making it difficult for Nigerians to even travel to other countries. We should learn to appreciate the progress of others so we would also get our own progress.

I myself love Japan. When I visited, I was mind blown. Like you Japan will always have a special place in my heart. ❤❤❤ . I will visit again though. And yes to become a permanent resident in Japan is hard.

@@emeksb4823 Where did I state that marrying a Japanese national guarantees permanent residency status? Even in the US, it doesn't. The US Supreme Court has a ruling on that. However, I maintain my stance that obtaining permanent residency in Japan isn't hard. That's a hill I will die on.

This is the things that takes me out of people`s vlogs. Japan HAS A VERY VERY CLEAR AND CHEAP PATHWAY to PR. Being a student in Japan is wayyyyy different from being in the `Japan world`. Japan uses point system, 10yrs stay, HSP visa route or Japanese spouse route to PR. Infact its the clearest I know. I stopped listening when you got to the citizen part. Geeze! Japan is not like USA, Canada etc. Being a citizen or not you are both taxed equally and receive the same `benefits or treatments` unlike other countries where you need to be a citizen to enjoy some benefits. So you just need a legal stay in Japan and you are ok. I agree with the dual citizenship part. but who cares, I will give up my African passport quick quick for a Japanese passport. The benefit of a Japanese citizenship is the passport only.
Personally, I am happy to see people move on to what they believe is good for them. But please get your facts right before you inform the public wrongly. And yes Japan is not a perfect country. But I don't agree with all your points and that is ok.

If you ask me to give you negative sides of japan, I will list a whole page and more but PR being an unclear path is definitely not part of them. Once again, japan is not a perfect country.

If you like get PhD ten times in Japan, there will be nothing for you, as long as you are a gaikokugin especially a black one for that matter. It's ALT you will be doing for the rest of your life! However, the elementary schools in Japan are far better than Canada, so Japan is better for raising kids. But then again, the future of your children when they grow up is seriously at stake!
