Thanks for your video, I just did mine, I kept pausing and playing until i finished family is proud of me thanks to you!
Nicely done. Just got the same filter and confident with your help, I’ll be able to service it on my own. Thanks.
Ok, some of the comments on this video are strange. I thought you did an excellent job showing how a novice like myself with the exact same filter system can get the job done right! Hooray for you. And seriously, the dogs and the little boy both took what might normally be a rather boring video to a fun and entertaining level. Thanks for all the help. I've already subscribed and look forward to more useful videos from you.
Our number 1 goal with these videos is accurate information. Our second goal (which we may not achieve depending on your sense of humor) is to entertain. Glad you found it useful!
@@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS agree your video is what my past pool guy did and makes sense.
Great Video, thanks for making it. Our builder said they would come out in six months but that we wouldn't need to clean the filter for two years. Well they never came and it's been a year now so this video is really helpful. Thanks a lot.
Good stuff. I have this exact filter set up and just had to fire my pool maintenance people for extreme lack of service. This video will help me as I endeavor to do the work myself.
Thank you for this excellent tutorial. I do most of my own pool maintenance as it saves me a lot of money versus paying someone.
Thank you for your help! I am having an awful time getting our pool water clear. It’s the dirty filter!!
Super video! I applauded for $2.00 👏
I saw the cinder block wall and the "desert landscaping", and I knew right away...PHOENIX!
Dead giveaway!!
😅😂 love your videos bro thx. Hilarious
Good one jim
Great video, Those dogs stole the show though 😂
Thanks dude👍
9:44 the o-ring!!!! lol thanks for a great Video
Good eye! I had to watch it 3X before I noticed that.
Been doing this for 20 years. "self taught" more or less. I keep an older set to use at spring start up. It does mean that I will clean the filters about 3 times in the first week. After the water is reasonable, I put it the good filters. Wont need cleaned until winterization. Will Buy new set late May 2023. The old gets tossed, and the prior 'new' becomes the 'old'. Had pipes modified so I can bypass to waste. I vacuum with no filters in real fast until water level gets too low. Gets rid of all worms, leaves and dirt, without wrecking a filter set. I NEVER take out the drain plug. I just open the pump basket and the air valve, and go do something else for a half an hour until all pressure is down. Yeah its a bit of work in spring.
a lot of variable speed pumps are programmed on the pump itself or from automation, you can flip the switch in the timer box all you want and the pump won't shut off. sometimes all those timers do is control when the salt cell and the heater turn on. it can get confusing lol. great video man. i know it's an old one but, still good advice.
You’re spot on about VS pumps.....it drives me nuts when I see one wired up to the load side of a time clock with the tabs on like it’s an old one and the customer is wondering why it’s not working right, LOL
@@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS exactly right, and then depending on whether it's a hayward or a pentair or one of those cheap ass brands, you gotta learn how to program them...it can quickly become a complicated mess. especially if whoever installed it doesn't know what they're doing. god forbid you have an air switch on a pool/spa combo. its a disaster explaining to a customer.
What are your thoughts on the Leap frog system or the Oxygenators systems?
Rick moranis starrrsss in "Honey, I shrunk the filters"
What speed and/or flow would you recommend on a 13,500 gallon pool for quick clean? For 10 hour run to heat?
What’s up man love watching your videos i am a pool guy from New Jersey. Just wondering why you would take the tank off the bulkhead instead of just hosing out the dirt with a hose out the drain spout. That’s how I do it just wondering if pulling off does something else? And thanks again keep them coming
Hey Steve, most of the time I’ll unscrew the drain plug and rinse quick. I honestly can’t remember why I pulled the tank. Coincidentally, the people who’s pool I did this on are from Jersey!
Do you have a video on your new method of cleaning with an air compressor?
How do you replace the air bleeder line filter? It’s badly damaged in my pool and I can’t figure out how to take the small filter off and put on a new one.
Whoa those are big filters.
What is your pool capacity? ... that a huge filter!
7:55 "it's tomorrow" Whoa....I'm tripping
Great video, coming from an expert. Pay no attention to the loser(s) with their snide comments. People think they're real tough behind a keyboard.
You prolly dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can stream all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my girlfriend during the lockdown xD
@Jerry Jad yea, I've been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :D
@Jerry Jad yea, have been using InstaFlixxer for years myself :)
@Jerry Jad definitely, been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :D
@Jerry Jad yea, I've been using instaflixxer for years myself =)
Yeah, spread those pleats open. Get them nice and wide.
Be sure to stick your finger in as well!
AHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHA PRICELESS!
Dillon Gallo lowering the Tone LOL
If you pause at 4:39 .. perfect 😂
Ive cleaned a lot filters and I see a lot of caps on the air bypass tube instead of the screen. is there any reason why they would cap it off? that's bad im assuming right? and how bad is it actually?
The way u finger that filter!
Mister M hahahaha
Hahaha
Hahaha
😂😭😄🤣
Thanks for the video! What broke or dropped at 9:47? was that an o-ring or did the plastic chip off? The video is edited shortly after, and it doesn't show work on the connection it fell from.
I think you mean at more like 9:45 you can definitely see an o-ring or gasket fly off and roll away..
Having helluva time finding anything to hold the large filter. What size is that Brute garbage bin???
This looks identical to my setup, complete with the product label curling up and coming off 😂. How important are those bands that are wrapped around the filters?
The bands keep the pleats open so that the filter can use it’s total surface area. The bands are glued to each pleat so they stay apart from each other. When the pleats separate from the bands or the bands come completely off, the filter cartridge will still work, just not quite as well. At some point the bands either need to be repaired (with a hot glue gun), cleaned more frequently, or replaced.
The bottom half of the tank house can be cleaned by simply removing the bottom outside plug all the way off then just rinse out.
but to do the clean service schedule is going to take a lot time to do that
Will white vinegar and baking soda work for a soak? ✌🏼🇺🇸
Would love to know
i have the same exact filter system.... how much psi when the filters are clean?
8-10.
Now I know what Rick Moranus did before he was famous.
I've been mistaken for Napoleon Dynamite countless time but never Rick Moranus. I feel honored!!
@@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS I was thinking rick moranus too!! But not in such a Ghostbusters dorky way!!😅👍
Mark wins best comment award😅😂
At the pool I work at I soak the filters in hydrochloric acid over night, it works well, my question is, is that going to destroy the filters over time ?
It’s only commercial spa filters and I have been doing it for a couple years but they seem to be getting old and damaged
Absolutely! Soaking over night (depending on the concentration) is a fast way to the end of a filter’s life. A short soak (30 minutes) is about as far as We’d go and that’s at 16% concentration.
What the heck did I just watch....I don't even own a pool🤣
I have the same kind of filter and i have a question:
Can i use this filter drain my pool by opening the drain plug ? Plus using the bottom pool intake plug not the skimmer one
it's a better idea to use a submersible pump. I've tried a long time ago to do it the way you're describing and it ends up being more trouble than it's worth plus you run the risk of running your pump dry and it will overheat.
Swimming Pool Science n
Never use your main pump to drain your pool. Just rent a dirty water pump from Home Depor. Your pool pump is meant to operate with a full pool and once you drain it much below skimmer level, you're really going to be overheating the motor and impeller.
How do I fix an underwater leak? Is it expensive? It’s right before it hits my water feature. Can hire you to come out to my house and Goodyear?
We can come take a look. Reach out to us via phone, text, or email
Can you film that thing that says leaf vac, I just bought a new house and the pool has another weird tall pump basket thing
Right with the pump and filter and stuff? That's actually a neat piece of equipment to have. You know how your pump has a basket on the front where the water comes in? The leaf vac is the same thing except detached from the pump. they're great for catching extra debris before it gets to the strainer basket at the pump where things are a bit crazy in terms of what the water is doing. Just empty it like you would the pump basket...by first turning the pump off, opening the lid, and removing the basket and dumping the contents. When the basket is all clean, put it back, make sure the O ring on the leaf vac lid has not fallen out and is clean and snugly replace it. Most of the time you turn the lid about 45 degrees clockwise to loosen it then about 45 degrees counter clockwise to tighten it back up. Hope that helps!

Thanks, we also are building a pool at our other home, it's done now, it's got an,all Hayward system, ecostar, turbo cell, etc, but thanks that was helpful!
Right on. I'm a big Pentair guy but the Hayward stuff is really solid. The Ecostar is super smooth and quiet and the software that runs the Turbocell is easy to manage. Give our page a like on Facebook and share some pictures!

Is it possible to take a system 3 D.E system and convert it to these filters?
I know you can convert their FNS DE filter into a Clean & Clear Cartridge filter so I believe its the same with these, just need to make a few minor changes to the plumbing.
Can you make videos on pool cleaners
Any models in particular? I have a 2 part video on servicing the Hayward Navigators.
spread those pleats WIDER
are we still talking about the filter?
What size garbage can is that so I can get it to fit those filters.Like in gallons or the model number please.I have a 32 gallon but it does not fit the big filter. Is this a 44 gallon?55 gallon?
I think that was a 55
Thank you
wow, is this used instead of a sand filter, what model?
Our favorite is the Pentair Clean & Clear Plus series
What is your ideal pressure after a cleaned filter? 20?
8 or 10. I clean at 20-ish.
I blow top off. Water nosel thum gets tired soaking is very important pressure gage will let you know wen to clean filter ALLWase lube O-rlng. And screws I am a C.P.O 35 years Experience best pool veido
I’ve been thinking about getting an extra set of filters so I can swap clean for dirty. Then after a thorough wet wash I let dry and blow remaining debris out with a compressor. You think the filters that dry out will crack?
Nope, in fact that’s exactly what we do now. We have an inventory of cartridge filters. When filter cleaning season comes, we just exchange clean for dirty and have all the dirties cleaned at once. Saves time, money, and energy for everyone. As long as you keep them out of the sun they’ll be fine.
Do you clean the filter with a hose, then let it dry, then blow it down with an air compressor from the outside or from the inside? Do you do any of the chemical soaking like in the video?
You cover the whole valley?
I clean pools ONLY, and have multiple customers with repairs.
you interested?
How about if your filter pleated have a hole
You should replace the cartridge. A hole means dirty water right back to the pool.
I have a pool guy to do all of this stuff but I watch his vids anyway because he’s hot 😂
Well then....a how do you do to you as well M’Lady...
Swimming Pool Science OMG ahah I hope you don’t mind if I find you very attractive ☺️
Kylie 152 whelp, it’s highly likely you’re a scammer from over seas or an overweight hairy troll who lives in his mom’s basement but on the off chance that you’re a sweet, friendly woman with a good smile, I don’t mind at all!
Swimming Pool Science Swimming Pool Science well the only scam I have is that I’m not a natural blonde but other than that this is me! :)) I’m glad you don’t mind ;)
Whelp, it is the internet so your word is good enough for me!!
Do you add DE to these filters?
Chris Tarr no, those are non DE cartridge filters
NO, DE filters are not the same
Have you ever thought of using a pressure spray nozzle?
I have. I can make the water pressure do exactly what I want it to in an instant with my thumb so I opt for no pressure nozzle but that’s just my personal preference.
Find a way to spin those filters. Much much faster and more effective.
no need to add diatomaceous earth with this filter??
Nope. The cartridges do all the filtering. DE would impede water flow
4:36 😳
4:42 ok why does that look so wrong to me? 😂
would've been nice if you told everyone how you should line up the arrows on the filters... i think that's kinda important..
Some have to be lined up exactly like the system 3, others like the Clean and Clear don’t.
@@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS I'm referring to the exact system in your video which is the system3 so a quick reference about the arrows would be awesome. I would've missed it if I didn't see a different video first.
Jet Wash ?
You have to be careful with any Type of pressure washing as it can damage the filter cartridge if the water is too strong.
why don't you take out the stick and clean the little filter head?
An o ring fell out
Jonathan Azenon i saw that too
9:45 You lost an O-ring there
Keen eye!
4:48 the dog is eating the filth out of the filter
poor body mechanics, I expect you will be having a lot of lower back pain... but the filter guide was acceptable
You sound like my cousin (who’s a chiropractor). I’ve been pretty lucky with my back so far but I’ll definitely keep my self in check when it comes to moving the heavy stuff.
Do you work for OSHA?
@@chuckschillingvideos .... something like that; I do appreciate the guide in this video
The worst thing about body mechanics on this filter is working with those damn 8(!!!) clamps! I'm a pool tech and I HATE to see this filter in a backyard when called for a filter cleanout. Whoever the genius was that designed this absurd filter system should have to work on every single one of them! Arrrgh!
LOL, Okay, I just had to vent.
But truly, I can just look at those knobs and my hands start hurting.
Go to a good pool supply store and get a filter comb. costs about $15. shoots water out of comb fingers. makes this job real quick work. this hose thing is a messy waste of time and water. use comb on both outside and inside of cartridge to save yourself a lot of time and headache. makes cartridge like new. OR do what we did and change to a sand filter with glass filter material Gets rid of pain in the a** cartridge completely. Plus if u buy new cartridges every couple of years it will pay for itself.
Looks like you just spent 4 hours cleaning your filter
Just trash it and pay the $50.00 for a new one yearly 😂
Those filters run about $300 for the big one and $150 for the small one.
That’s a terrible design for a filter lid. I clean my filter every week. I wouldn’t want to do that one. Mine simply twists off.
What a pain in the ass
Cartridge Filters pool supply's love to sell them! Say no and buy a real filter with sand your welcome.
Taken care of properly, filter cartridges can go a decade. With sand you get about 6-8 years.
Yes and sands $8 bucks a bag and nothing to do but backwash it for 6-8 years and replace.@@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS
time1800 a sand change is way more labor intensive. And if a lateral fails vs. a cartridge?....
More Labor intensive? remove the filter drain plug start the pump blow the sand out remove the top refill the sand done . Verse removing filters and washing them out over and over again no thanks.@@SwimmingPoolAZ-SPS
To each his own and of course each style of filter has it’s pluses and minuses. I’d rather service a cartridge filter any day over a sand filter.
My advice is DO NOT USE A REGULAR METAL HAMMER ON ANYTHING! Especially anything plastic and brittle from sitting in the HOT SUN ! As they mite crack ! There is A TOOL that is made specifically for taking those large knobs off your sta-rite pool filter and it will fit in your standard desalt electric drill. Good luck 🍀👍
