I prefer the look and quiet sound of the original Honda exhaust on the Monkey. I live in Thailand and bought a new Honda Monkey (no ABS) and it is only £2,375 on the road there. Fun bike for popping to the city 6 miles away and driving to the farm and market. Great in the city for filtering through traffic. Seat is very soft and comfortable. The Honda Monkey is actually manufactured in Thailand as are all Honda's up to and including the 750cc bikes.

For city commuting and as a useful run about, the new cub gives much better weather protection and is arguably less likely to get nicked, but the monkey does attract positive attention from normal peeps, as it is not intimidating in any way!!! You are not classed by the public as a boy racer, or a hells angel, so you must be normal, well as normal as an ancient bloke on a tiny yellow bike can be anyway! If it is dark, the lights are excellent, but if it is wet you will have to stop regularly to clean the road grime off the headlamp, as the front mudguard is just there to look very nice and shiny, which was the whole idea when they designed it. Fantastic fun, you will keep it as a forever bike as it takes up hardly any room, so treat it well, and use loads of that high ferlutin purple anti corrosion stuff they sell nowadays to make sure it won’t fester. Do inside all connectors, under all the bolt heads and washers, and even put some on the staples that upholster the seat, as they go rusty virtually instantly!! Like someone said, just get one Oh, and driven flat out, as you do, it gets about 75 mpg
Great review, watched and went straight down to Maidstone Honda and got one in red with the yoshi! Just added the back rack, headlight fairing and the Beeline Nav system. Great little machine with guaranteed smiles per mile.

I have 2022 model banana yellow and I love this little machine, 2L/100km fuel consumption beats any EVs. I got small windshield on front which lifts air flow away from my chest, so cruising speed without stressing the engine is nearly 100km/hour. I am 75kg. Thanks for a good presentation video, it gave honest picture of Ape machine. I visited in Maidstone several years ago and found model car collectors swap meet to buy some british diecast cars, gorgi toys mainly. Better selection than in here Australia, where I live now. Lovely little town.

Cheers! Ill admit it was little scary! I think the yellow one is the nicest. I was in honda maidstone just before lockdown and they have a new front bit for it aswell which looked pretty good
I want to buy one for myself and one for my girlfriend, so we can each have one. My main concern is she weighs a hundred pounds less than I do; so she's always going to beat me in little races. I really enjoyed this video.
Haha, yeah you're gonna be destroyed in races 😂 but awesome bikes for a couple. My other half is learning to ride at the moment and I can see us having a couple in the garage down the line. Shes also pretty light compared to me so no race winning for me 😂
Nice vid mate. Bought my monkey a few months ago. My first bike and I love it! I’m 47. Serious question. . . Is it normal to ride around during the day with full beam on?! Reason I ask is a few videos I’ve seen have had it on. Full beam as in the blue light on. I live in Bournemouth, the monkey is great for just cruising around town
Thanks! Personally I wouldn't ride around with full beam on intentionally. Not sure if I had on during this video but if it was it was an accident on my part. I've ridden with high beam around traffic before but only when my normal bulb has gone and I am en route to get it changed.
Great little machine. I bought it in black and it is such a joy to ride. Hey, that guy at 7:50 who is standing on the left side of the street seems to have very pale actually almost white hands (probably gloves) and some kind of an imageless face which is a bit spooky... :-D. Anyway thank you for your great video and cheers from Germany. ;-)
Haha, yeah I remember having a little shock when I saw him. It's very rare to see pedestrians in that part of the ride. I'm always aware of them as you get the odd one from time to time. Spooky looking dude though...
Hi Tom new screen the yellow and white one and the same exhaust you had on the demo being fitted I can’t help myself with the monkey I just love it every time I ride it hope Honda do a bigger engine version that would be cool keep the road tests coming

I had a listen to the akrapovic exhaust too which isnt in this vid but also worth a look when you are upgrading. Sounded really good too! Thanks for adding the feedback on springs
Size wise you'll be surprised, I'm 6ft and felt pretty good for me. Saying that you'll only know when you sit on one and take for a test ride. Enjoy, it's a bike you'll keep even after getting a bigger bike as its just so much fun
Its 125cc air-cooled engine delivers a earth shattering 9 horsepower, and fuel efficiency comes in at a staggering 157 MPG; curb weight with a full tank of fuel etc comes in at only 235 lbs. The Honda Monkey bike is perhaps most widely known as a groovy icon of the 1970s, but it first saw the light of day in 1961. Just over 1 gallon tank. Gets 180miles per tank.
We have A1 driver license in Finland. You get A1 license at 16 years old and with A1 you can only ride bikes up to 125cc and 11kw. I think Honda monkey 125 will be the perfect bike for me. Also in Finland at 15 years old you get moped license/Am120. Mopeds are limited to 50cc and 45kmh.
Havent ridden the grom but think it would still be the monkey. Just made me laugh. If I was going to be doing some stunts and throwing it around the grom would probably be the winner.

Really nice enjoyable vid , A Question only i maybe can answer should i get this exact model with the pipe used ultra low mile or wait for the new version ..
Last year after I'd passed my CBT these were available. I'm sure they're fun, and I wouldn't mind a test ride, but I'm glad I got a Honda CB125R instead. That cost only a fraction more, had a nice height seat (820mm), 13BHP and did about 120MPG. I'm sure it's well built , well because it's an Honda, and I can understand buying the Monkey bike for people of shorter stature or for strappng to the back of a camper van when going on holiday, but not for me !
About to turn 40, going to get my bike liciense, had my car for a while now.. this has made up my mind as to my start out bike! any other pointers would be greatly received!
Hi mate, excellent video. What's the height of the motorcycle with and without mirrors? I'm planning to put it in the campervan. I need those dimensions.
I’ve never ridden a motorbike, I’ve been cycling around London for the last 14 years and I sm about to take my CBT. Is this a bike you would recommend for a newbie?
Is it worth it thinking about some modification to increase power, top speed? Actually something over 60 miles on the top speed seems to me quite fine for such small bike, not sure if its save to ride this bike like 80 mile per hour if possible thanks modification. Perhaps modification can boost acceleration but not sure if there is point to do it. What do you think?
Nah, tyres are tiny. Doesnt feel good at high speed. I got it to just over 70mph and certainly felt fast enough for the bike. The bikes happy place is probably up to 50mph. Acceleration was good in the 0-35 range which is where its important. I personally wouldnt want to modify the power output at all
@@TommyBarnezTV Thank you, I got Honda SH 125i and for my in and around town riding its perfect, 2L per 100km, minimum maintenance. I should have bought it much early. My Suzuki bandit 1200 k6 is hibernating for most of the years, Honda is the my first choice
@@TommyBarnezTV i'm just concerned about security, what's stopping someone from potentially picking it up and taking it when I can't lock it? It's 107 kg right it's possible for someone big to do so or a pair of people to do so right?
I tihnk so however I find legalities of exhausts a little confusing in uk. General consensus is baffle in ok, baffle out possibly not ok but depends on who stops you
@@TommyBarnezTV thanks for your reply! The manual just says what the minimum requirements is (which is regular) but didn't say whether premium would be better. When I bought my Honda Ruckus, I was told to put only premium. Guess it's probably not a big issue.
When the tank is only 1.5 gallons why would you not use premium? If you were buying a thousand gallons it may be a consideration but 1.5 gallons at 140 miles per gallon, please don't be a tightwad and splurge for premium. Once I did fill with regular and my little Monkey was so mad he didn't speak to me for a week!
@@dbx1233 I recall reading an article or a post once that was saying regular is better than premium for motorcycle engines. I really cant remember the details though and didnt dig deeper so unsure if it's true or not
Funek Imre i didnt buy it yet but people are saying that they dont have any big problema w it just a couple of little ones and thats it.They say that only problem is that it looks big and when cars wave you it takes 100 years to pass them cus its only 125 cc
Can I possibly change the seat... Definitely it's either shave some off or totally change it into a bit thinner so then I won't struggle. Can you share me some link to where I can buy them if you know? I'm new to motorcycles and I will be buying one soon. Thanks bro 👌🏽
@@VonJoshuaBasila this bike is tiny, you really won't struggle. My gf is 5ft2 and she has sat on it, no problems at all. You really wont need to change the seat for something smaller

Nice! What exhaust did you go with? Honda maidstone are pretty awesome I think as they always have extras on the bikes to check out. When I was there they had a yoshi and an akra. I was in there the other day and they also had some new fairing for the bike on one of the demos that looked pretty cool

Absolutely. Ohlins shocks and fork inserts, braided lines, better pads, the Yoshimura exhaust, several intakes available, cam, ECU flash or fuel controller, big bore kits, 4 valve heads...How much do you want to spend? The mod scene for this bike (and the Grom) is vast!
Cool as... picking mine up tomorr same as this in yellow but with yoshimura GP magnum exhaust 👌🏼 U missed out on that exhaust theres bananas engraved on the brackets and a monkeys head engraved on the down pipe ...looks great these little touches....I paid only £2999 per reg , zero miles 69 plate , plus £450 for yosh gp exhaust ...bargain . Thunder road bikes South Wales 👌🏼
I weigh 300lbs and I'm 6'6"..........I wonder if it's too small for me??? 🤔 I want one. I've been wanting a mini bike since I was 7 years old. I think it's about time! 🙄
@@deonogorman928 yeah perfect for little rides like that. The only thing slightly against it is that its probably pretty easy to steal. Its so light someone could just pick it up. Lock to something on the ground and you'll be fine. Have you completed a CBT?
@@deonogorman928 unfortunately there's no lock which is perfect, its more about making it time consuming to steal so the bike thief moves on. Id suggest a disc lock at the front and a decent chain and padlock to attach the back wheel to something fixed to the ground. Thats the minimum Id go with.
I had a Duke 125 as my first bike, which many describe as the best A1 / 125 because it has a “big bike feel” and it’s the fastest 4 stroke 125 exept for the RC. I still feel that the Grom and especially the Monkey is the better bike, it might be slower but it’s way more fun, and that’s what motorcycles are about for me. Monkey FTW
I've got very little experience on 125s as went straight to direct access for big bikes so it's difficult for me to judge the entire 125 range so good to hear your feedback. I suppose the big argument for me when riding was the thought that I would quite like a monkey in my bike collection despite having a full license. It definitely seems like a bike you could keep for many years while still putting a smile on your face whenever you decide to jump on it. What you riding now btw?
Yeah I've not looked into pricing a lot however I've been told it's on the upper end for a 125 however I think its fairly priced considering what you get and the fact you can keep it forever without getting bored
Hey mate that's very kind of you but probably not. Even though I ride a lot of different bikes I don't really feel comfortable riding bikes that belong to individuals as I'd feel absolutely terrible if something happened. The only time I've ridden someone else's bike was in my most recent video where I rode an old Honda cub about 5 miles
Gonna get me one and gotta go for the banana yellow, have a few quid to spend .Inheritance from my dad. Rip pops ☹️😘but I can see the look on his face watching me on this little beauty. He was an annoying bugger and a piss taker in the nicest way, gonna get this for you Dad,love ya.x.

Hmm, sorry not sure mate. It's seriously small though
Oh my god I loved testriding this!!! (With yoshimura)
Hilarious isn't it!
Brilliant!
I’ve never ridden a motorbike, I’ve been cycling around London for the last 14 years and I sm about to take my CBT. Is this a bike you would recommend for a newbie?
Yeah super easy for a new rider
What's the name of the muffler. Do you have to make any adjustments to the fuel injector system with this muffler. Nice looking bike. Nice
It's the yoshimura option. No adjustments, just swop out from the original
@@TommyBarnezTV thank you.
Is there a noticeable difference between the 4 speed and the 5 speed not sur which one to go for.
Looks great for a bit of monkey business.
Would this be a decent first bike for someone new to biking and mostly just looking for an option for round town / work commute?
Yeah no problems at all for that
@@TommyBarnezTV i'm just concerned about security, what's stopping someone from potentially picking it up and taking it when I can't lock it? It's 107 kg right it's possible for someone big to do so or a pair of people to do so right?
@@tangjtl499 yeah if its not locked to something with a decent chain it would be gone. Same with most bikes though this would be easier
@@TommyBarnezTV that's my concern
Is the Yoshimura RS-3 exhaust Full System road legal in the UK?
I tihnk so however I find legalities of exhausts a little confusing in uk. General consensus is baffle in ok, baffle out possibly not ok but depends on who stops you
@@TommyBarnezTV thanks mate,good video
I just got mine! Do you recommend putting premium gas or just regular?
Nice! Personally I'd just put regular in but wouldnt know the official standing on it. Might be something in your owners manual?
I really cant remember the details though and didnt dig deeper so unsure if it's true or not
Maybe a compromise would be mid grade? Not really. Regular may be better , I don't know. I should check into it. Thanks.@@TommyBarnezTV
looks so great...
As soon as I pass my 125 test I'm buying one of these 😂
questionable content chech out lexmoto LXR 125 im in love 😍.Plus its much cheaper
@@antenimac6089 those are cool
questionable content yea but im kinda worried cus its chineese
@@antenimac6089 Did you have any problems with it?
Funek Imre i didnt buy it yet but people are saying that they dont have any big problema w it just a couple of little ones and thats it.They say that only problem is that it looks big and when cars wave you it takes 100 years to pass them cus its only 125 cc
Great review! Still loving my 2019 Monkey too.
Awesome bike :)
Awesome video 👌🏽 this is gonna be my first motorbike 😎 I’m only 5’3 so this is the perfect size for me 💯 is this the stock version or modded?
Only addition to this over stock is that epic sounding yoshi exhaust 😎
Can I possibly change the seat... Definitely it's either shave some off or totally change it into a bit thinner so then I won't struggle. Can you share me some link to where I can buy them if you know? I'm new to motorcycles and I will be buying one soon. Thanks bro 👌🏽
@@VonJoshuaBasila this bike is tiny, you really won't struggle. My gf is 5ft2 and she has sat on it, no problems at all. You really wont need to change the seat for something smaller
Okay thanks I guess I just need to get use to it hehe 🙈
@@VonJoshuaBasila try one out in the shop :) I'm sure if needs be there would be a smaller seat available online but I think you'll be fine
Love mine always makes me smile great second bike anyone looking at this buy it great guys at Maidstone Honda great service and will look after you and your monkey bike
Nice! What exhaust did you go with? Honda maidstone are pretty awesome I think as they always have extras on the bikes to check out. When I was there they had a yoshi and an akra. I was in there the other day and they also had some new fairing for the bike on one of the demos that looked pretty cool
TommyBarnezTV Hi Tommy I have also changed the rear shocks to hagon this has made such a difference to the handing I have a dart screen on but have the new one in yellow waiting to go on when I can get out to collect it will sell the dart one I have a lextec exhaust but am changing that to the one on there demo bike the yoshi this is a keeper won’t ever sell it it’s not my main bike but I love it keep up your views ride safe can you do one on a fatboy and sport glide Harley
Looks pretty quick!
yeah surprising! It get's to 40mph pretty easy so fine for going around town
What would be a great bike for a 5’1, 105lb woman?
Hard to say really as depends on the riding she wants to do. No probs with the monkey though
TommyBarnezTV thank you sir! We won’t be going fast. Small towns. No interstates. 60mph would be plenty.
Honda Monkey 70mph. 180 miles a tank. 125cc. Hills no problem.
Honda Ruckus 40mph. 150 miles tank. 50cc. Hills slow it down.
Got one of theses today got to say its a nippy little thing
Only issue i have is the lack of a clock and gear indicator, other than that I'll probably be buried with mine
it not only winks it blows a kiss at you :)
😂
I didn't know Stephen Merchant did motorcycle reviews
OK it's 180 miles per tank not per gallon.
I prefer the quieter original exhaust system!
Where r these bike manufactured
I got the black one love it
I wonder if you can upgrade many parts on this bike to make it a bit better. Brakes, suspension etc. 🤔
shrewsnose1 man in the box can send some pretty good shocks for it.
I'm sure there will be some interesting options out there

Epic. Epic
Mucho apoyo maquina ✊💪
That was fun 👍👍👍🏁🏁🏁
only thing , it is a solo bike ,but I'm never gone sell it , it is my little ego trip , :D
Cool as... picking mine up tomorr same as this in yellow but with yoshimura GP magnum exhaust 👌🏼
U missed out on that exhaust theres bananas engraved on the brackets and a monkeys head engraved on the down pipe ...looks great these little touches....I paid only £2999 per reg , zero miles 69 plate , plus £450 for yosh gp exhaust ...bargain .
Thunder road bikes South Wales 👌🏼
Sweet! Thanks for the info on the banana and monkey engraving! Upset I miss that! Will look out for it in the future!
Can somebody please do a trail ride test uphill through the woods being that's what it was originally designed for since the 60s
If I owned one I would be off road with a lot! Cant really do that sort of stuff on a test ride though
Offroading uphills downhills etc...

I weigh 300lbs and I'm 6'6"..........I wonder if it's too small for me??? 🤔
I want one. I've been wanting a mini bike since I was 7 years old. I think it's about time! 🙄
Definitely! Give one a go!
do u have any other channels
I've got a gaming channel I spent some time on and a few other attempts at youtube however this is the main channel moving forward.
That's awesome
I love the exaust sound it sound like honda 350 cc bike sound
Are they road legal in uk and much is insurance and tax and what do I need to drive it thanks
Yes road legal. Insurance depends on where you live etc so can't say, road tax about £17 I think. CBT as a minimum for training requirements
@@TommyBarnezTV aww class m8 and is that bike good for a every day bike here to work here to shops ect instead of a car
@@deonogorman928 yeah perfect for little rides like that. The only thing slightly against it is that its probably pretty easy to steal. Its so light someone could just pick it up. Lock to something on the ground and you'll be fine. Have you completed a CBT?
@@TommyBarnezTV no not completed that yet doing it soon is there any devise for it not to get stolen like a certain lock
Sounds like Ducati!
Actually better than that!
@@YoshimuraUSA okay let's come back to planet earth now...lmao
I would be bricking it sitting on something that low which cant build up enough speed to get you out of trouble.
Yeah I know what you mean, loud exhaust helps you feel safer :)
What you riding now btw?
but the cost ? i will keep with my sinnis 250
Yeah I've not looked into pricing a lot however I've been told it's on the upper end for a 125 however I think its fairly priced considering what you get and the fact you can keep it forever without getting bored
Way better quality than a bloody sinnis!
If i lend you my honda msx 125 could you review it on your channel?
Hey mate that's very kind of you but probably not. Even though I ride a lot of different bikes I don't really feel comfortable riding bikes that belong to individuals as I'd feel absolutely terrible if something happened. The only time I've ridden someone else's bike was in my most recent video where I rode an old Honda cub about 5 miles
How the hell can it weigh 107kg or so? You'd think it would be about 90 tops. Awesome though.
I want one!
Same! They're awesome!
im getting it black and yellow
Nice
My ocd kills me when he looks around and the helmet doesnt match the movement of the view
Haha sorry dude, was using a side mount with image stabilisation. Reviews are now on chin mount with stabilisation off so shouldn't trigger the OCD :)
really cool...
Really sorry for your loss mate, great way to remember him
