  • Customer brought in her road bike for a tuneup. At first, I thought she'd need a bunch of parts - chain, cassette, pads, etc., but upon closer inspection, she's about half way there, so this quick tuneup service should push back the need for replacements another few months! A true win-win!

I understand that people lead busy lives. However, I find the cleaning and light maintenance of my bicycles to be a very zen like . A calming and zoning out of the mind while listening to something enjoyable. Maybe its just me. Cheers.

Agreed to all that, however, I wanted to add a bit. It's also quite relaxing for me to watch videos of other people doing maintenance or upgrades on a bike (no matter the type of bike).

I get a lot of compliments for my bright yellow to orange fade Trek ProCaliber, especially after a wash and wax. People look at me funny when I tell them I’ve had it since 2019. I just take care of it, ‘s’all!
BikeFarmer may hate me for this though: I upgraded the wheels, seat post, and seat to carbon fiber and tubeless 🫢

Just found your channel and noticed the Felt bike and had to check it out. I have a Felt F85 road bike that I bought in 2007 and still ride. I maintain it as best I can and replaced the 23 x700 tires with 25's, and also replaced the stock stem with a shorter one with more of an upright angle. I'm 68 yrs old now and love to ride this bike as much as I can! Thanks for having such a good channel!

The color of this bike, reminds me of a 10-speed bike I bought as a teenager in 1979 maybe? About $100 - which was expensive at the time, for a kid. It got stolen within weeks! Not sure if that means it had a 2 in front, and 5 in back? I did a search, and haven't found an ad w/ a new one - they apparently stopped making them years ago. - I try to always put away or lock up my bikes now - but I did forget to do that a couple years ago, and had another bicycle stolen. - Which turned out to be a short joyride and abandonment - I discovered too late.

This may sound strange, but I’ve had good luck using food grade mineral oil to loosen up crud on components, frame. Doesn’t seem to damage plastic, paint, or rubber; Doesn’t stink like furniture polish; isn’t toxic; pretty cheap; small amounts can clean quite a bit.

My Tri-Flo is ordered, and today, Amazon delivered my Dawn Powerwash system, 1-step, and furniture cleaner, going in 1 box on the ready, w/ paper towels, and a couple old washcloths. Gotta look for more small rags - or a big one to cut into many - (in case Dolly Parton stops by.) But this may not be the best BikeFarmer video to watch for cable lubing. I forgot that procedure exactly, so I'll have to re-watch a different video. I also have to equip my Cleaning Station w/ a used toothbrush, for scrubbing. As it's Winter, I'm trying to sort out my best bike, doing a repair here or there too. I don't have a bike stand, so I ordered a $20 bike rack, that I'll mount on my workbench edge, to make my own, using quick release nylon straps to mount bikes. Thanks for the help!

You did good work on the video.
Thank you for your opinion about the older bicycles. I agree with you.
I believe forty dollars per hour is in order. The problem is a repair on a bike or maintenance will exceed the cost of a new bicycle. That is unfortunate.
Manufactures can produce bicycles at lo cost, putting the bicycle repairpersons out of business.

I love your videos by the way & subscribed. I have a 2004 Giant OCR2 that I’ve recently upgraded to a Tiagra 4700 gear set & also ditched the terrible xero lite 4 wheels for a set of Mavic Cosmic rim brake wheels. Shedded nearly 3.5 pounds off and it’s like an entirely new bike. I thought about that when I saw that this Felt had the same gear set. I found it to be superior over the stock 3 ring mashup of SRAM, Shimano & TruVativ parts originally on it. Oh and btw, thanks to you, I’ve started using dawn power wash 😆
