I have been getting back into the show because Beat Shazam reminds me of the show when they invite guests and they pop into the set. There is a similarity to both shows. Except Beat Shazam is music trivia and Couch Potatoes is TV trivia.
I remember this show when it was on WNBC-TV (channel 4) in NYC back in 1989. It was made by Saban, the same company who did the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" TV show and a series of "Power Rangers" spinoff shows as well. Group W was the distributor of this show, but this was also the same distributor who did the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" from season 1 through season 3. Sadly, the logo was cut until they got close to complete the logo. What a shame!
Marc Summers definately elevates this show above total cheesiness. For some reason, when that Mouseketeer guy first walked out, I thought it was Peter Tork of the Monkees.
Damn I almost forgot how good-looking Marc was back in the 80s/90s! Too bad I was just a kid back then-otherwise I'd have gladly dated AND married him!
If you like Couch Potatoes, there are three episodes I appeared on uploaded to my channel. The celebrity guests, in order, are Roger E. Mosley, Paul Petersen and "Buffalo Bob."
Exactly right! I was thinking that he/they knew Bill Cullen was the host of the original TPIR, and yet he/they thought Johnny Olsen was the original announcer instead of another legend...Don Pardo? Of course Bill Cullen was who Goodman-Todman wanted to host The New Price is Right....but, with all of the changes from the original, there was too much walking involved for Bill, who still suffered the effects of having had Polio, so, since all concerned realized he couldn't do it, they went with Bob Barker...and the rest is history.
+Jon Smith "Bill couldn't do the revival because of the changes" is a myth -- they actually had little to none of the revamped format in place when Goodson was in talks with Bill during late 1971-January '72. If anything, it was the fact that the revival was going to be done in Los Angeles whereas Bill still lived and worked in New York at the time.
AFAIK, he never did poke fun at Remote Control-- which came a little over a year before Couch Potatoes. Plus, I kinda think CP's a little closer to the BBC quizzer Telly Addicts...
That music cue wasn't necessarily the theme to The Dating Game. That's the writer's fault. The music was called Spanish Flea by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. It was used as the cue, I believe, to introduce the bachelorette playing the game.
I really liked this show. A recalled ep had Dorthy Lyman from All My Children as a guest.

I sure wish this show would be on Buzzr
By the way...that photo of the Art Fleming Jeopardy was from the syndicated nighttime version.
Remote Control meets Double Dare
3:29, that's the Dating Game theme, I never would recognize it.
Oddly enough, never knew that Saban (the same guy that would later give us Power Rangers in 1993) made a game show. The concept looks decent.
+wiiplayer9revisited He also gave us I'm Telling!, Treasure Mall, and Video Power when it came to game shows...

Apparently, she didn't know about Press Your Luck, or forgot about the whammies.
couch potatoes

0:14 wasn't that the same guy who played Tiny in Fun House?
No-- different guy. That's Joe Alaskey you're seeing, not John "Tiny" Hurley.
No, but he was also on the TV show *Out of this World* .
@Gran Torino Yes he was.
was joe fired from the annocer or did he quit and 2 seemed that marc smmers had a more casual look to this show or was that the idea
I was born a year later

is that the same contestant call number for Supermarket Sweep
Marco Macias I have wondered that too
I remember this game show host on Double Dare and What Would you do along with Unwrapped.
Marc was wring. Don Pardo was the original TPIR announcer if Bill Cullen was original host.

You are correct. Marc is in error. It was DON PARDO when it originated on the original NBC version; and Johnny Olsen on the CBS debut.

WarioBarker88 Also, Bill Cullen's limp prevented him from hosting Price is Right in 1972.
Yup. Was to point it out, I'm a year too late for that.
Wow, this ripped off MTV's Remote Control with Ken Ober and was honestly a lot better and funnier. And the questions were actually a challenge.
Sean Lynch I wonder if Marc poked fun at Remote Control during Couch Potatoes (much like he did on Double Dare with Fun House).
AFAIK, he never did poke fun at Remote Control-- which came a little over a year before Couch Potatoes.
Plus, I kinda think CP's a little closer to the BBC quizzer Telly Addicts...
well Marc couldn't make too much fun of Remote Control, as Marc and Ober's head boss was for the same company
That game show theme is the Dating Game? that don't sound like TDG.
Dan Barker I agree
Dan Barker Marc should know better

Loved this show. Which channel 8 affiliate was this recorded from? Grand Rapids, MI?
Thank you GAMESHOWMIKE.
WROC 8 Rochester
We lost Joe Alasky, recently.
+Dan Barker That was sad. He was later doing voice acting for "Tiny Toon Adventures" and lots more. RIP :-(
Dan Barker Have you found him yet?
Today Bonus Round Was An Epic Failure. BEECH!
nice
be cool
