Fun fact about the EVO: in the Italian man video, they show a prototype of the same thing but with android and windows games and OS (and more smaller) and only 3 of them where made (the Italian guy has one, and the other one is from another dude that tested that beta and uploaded it to UA-cam, he said that he still has it)
The Polymega would've been cool to have it released in its original release date, there's no reason to buy it when a 200$ PC with RetroArch installed can do everything it can do but better.
Dang, when the Polymega was shown, I saw the price, and you started showing the modules, I assumed it was an FPGA system, and I could sort of understand the price. But nope, just straight-up software emulation. Granted, it's apparently EXTREMELY accurate for software. I think it has some cool ideas, the fact that (from what I can tell from a 30-second Google search) the modules also give you access to OEM controller ports being one of them. But not for that price. People who bought them seem tobee pretty happy, though. I just don't get who it's for. Chances are, if you're already collecting a ton of physical games for a console, have controllers, accessories, etc, you're already going to have that console anyway. And if you're collecting the physical media, you're probably a purist and you aren't going to want software emulation. And if you AREN'T taking collecting that seriously and just want a convenient way to play old games, you probably aren't going to want to spend such an absurd amount of money on vintahe games, original controllers, and whatnot. Not when everything this console can play can be emulated, just fine on virtually any low-end android phone you can currently buy. It's way too high-end and expensive for casuals and nowhere near authentic enough for enthusiasts. It's genuinely baffling. What were they thinking?
The VCS is not dead. Atari is releasing new games on it every week, 5 last week alone. Yesterday they dropped Haunted House 2600 for free and some homebrew games as a result of their AtariAge purchase are starting to show up on the VCS store. It's a fun console to be on right now.
I could see where you’re coming from but I was talking from a logistical standpoint as in reality more money can’t really come in if the console isn’t being made and even when they were the sales dropped so hard it’d be hard to consider it “alive” either. I agree that it is not dead but it also isn’t necessarily in the best position either, at least for the comapny. I’m in that “emulation is best” boat and to me it doesn’t seem all that worth when most games cud just be emulated but of course opinions differ by each person
@@shteve.mp4 they still sell them through a few outlets and on their website. New manufacturing was stopped when their inventory quota was met. The idea that Atari was cancelling their VCS manufacuting contracts came from an internal statement to investors and was misunderstood by the press. The VCS was never cancelled. Remaining inventory was funded with presale profits, so new sales are likely to be mostly pure profit for the company.
Ah I see, that does make sense and it seems I was also led into that false idea that manufacturing was cancelled, my mistake. Ill be sure to do more thorough reasearch the next time around
Manufacturing WAS cancelled wasn't it? I mean, Atari released a statement a few days later saying that they just ended the contract with the original manufacturer, but it also said that they were committed to hardware in the form of add-ons for the existing VCS out there. I haven't seen any new production in nearly a year. @@shteve.mp4
Nope I bought my atari vcs 800. They still make games both exclusive and third party. It was for the 50th anniversary of video games and atari. It's a full gaming PC and can use any operating system , all inside a Atari 2600 body. The cpu is embedded but externally you can upgrade it. Ya just get a riser card, power supply, and graphics card with gpu. Problem solved. They do make 3d games and you didn't give a fair review. You also left off how you HAVE to upgrade the RAM automatically after an initial update, so you can look at the art on the motherboard. You can upgrade the RAM and add an ssd. You have to have a valid operating system on the ssd, flash drive, or external hard drive for the pc aspect. It literally is just for the 50 th anniversary of Atari and gaming. I promise you it will play Xbox games and switch 2 games
I believe you found your niche on UA-cam continue making videos relating to video games and as long as you put quality in them you got enough attraction and don't forget the thumbnail matter
Same here, though by the time i was born the xbox 360 had been released, the first console i had back in my home country was an Atari though i dont remember which one
i think atari vcs 800 is a great underrated hardware to me it's my favorite hardware i love it so much it made me a new atari fan it's not a bad disappointing hardware to me because it made me a new atari fan and it doesn't matter to me if video game hardware has alot of games or don't have alot of games only have little bit of games and sells don't matter to me either i love the vcs unpopular hardware better than xbox, playstation and nintendo switch that's just me
There is one console you forgot in the video. It was so bad that almost everyone forgot it's existence or is too young to know but if you're interested go check out the Amstrad GX4000. It probably the worst console ever produced by a manufacturer as big as Amstrad were at the time. It only released in Europe in the 1990s but quickly died due to how terrible it was.
I think overall your take on the VCS is pretty spot-on, I'd suggest not ussing terms like "Atari returned" or "made by the same people." This is NOT the Atari of the 1980s. Or even the 90s. This is just a name that has been bought and sold several times.
Well..... Those who pre-ordered polymega believe me that they haven't forgotten about it. They deserve the criticism, however I did pre-order and while it took a while it finally got here. I got the whole package modules, controllers and alm for $500 and it's awesome. I love it.
Im glad u love it and all power to you its just to the eyes of an average consumer, such as myself, the price just cant really be justified, even though what i think its trying to accomplish is very interesting and fun, considering an average PC can generally accomplish the same things for a cheaper price usually. But still, no hate towards anyone that bought a Polymega in the end, its all about preferences and opinions
@@shteve.mp4 It's all good, I get it. Emulation is important and very popular on PC and handheld devices like anbernic. Nvidia Shield TV Pro. It also a game console But Andriod Based. Sort of.

Not producing any more makes it a dead console.
