The main problem I've had with Twitter is seems it's primarily photographers boosting other photographers in an insular circle. I'm just not really into photography aimed at other photographers, engagement circles and the like. With Instagram I'd regularly get featured on local news accounts and would have exposure to non-photographers, which I much prefer. If I just wanted to build audience with other photographers I'd use 500px and Flickr. But yes it's certainly kinder with reach.
Twitter is very unpopular over here, especially among my friends. Instagram is stressful as heck to grow on (and let's just not mention facebook anymore). Time for BIG changes if you ask me!
On Instagram I usually get around 20% impressions from home on Instagram but tend to do pretty well on hashtags I've definitely noticed a steady decline in my reach over the last few months though
Same, just seems like having a massive following is a waste of time if Instagram will only show your posts to 10-20% of followers. I regularly get more impressions on hashtags recently. No one is going to pay for engagement. Facebook have it all wrong
@@kamrantazz completely agree, as a photographer all I care about is having as many people see my work as possible, luckily with hashtags my reach is equal to or greater than my following but it's still a lottery
That’s completely normal. I have a friend who has only had about 700 followers for two years. She continues to show up and make content anyway, and suddenly one of her reels got 600K views and she gained almost 2K followers from that. Her reels after that continue to get 2-4K views. It’s absolutely random.
I'm not sure how much reach I get on Instagram. I don't have a creators account because I don't want to look at the analytics and also I haven't posted for a month 🤣 - I haven't logged into Twitter for a month either until yesterday and posted a couple photos and got nearly 9,000 impressions (I only checked there because you asked!) 🤷♂️
It would be great cover what upcoming photo apps have potential to compete with Instagram. Not sure if you’ve done that already? I’m not talking about TikTok but others more photo based. I dropped off Instagram years ago. In theory I think it’s good but got bored by it pretty fast whether in explore or my feed. It just seems mostly ads and people trying to brand themselves, which makes it kind of a flat and inauthentic experience. I try every now and again but it just falls flat to me. I follow loads of photographers on UA-cam but never go to their Instagram but will tend to follow them on Twitter just to kind of bookmark that connection and be abreast of their video posts or new projects.
The negative thing on this is, that at least here in Germany Twitter is quite dead for that kind of use. Its more about discussions etc. So if I want to find clients or reach out to get my photos seen buy interested people, Instagram would still be the better option. Sad but true. As much as I would love to leave IG behind..
Thanks a lot for this videos!! I started posting more on Twitter lately and checking the stats and the difference between the impressions are significant, even though I have much less followers on Twitter the percentage is higher, it's pretty interesting. Again thanks for this analysis on both platforms!!
I don't get any reach on Twitter. Maybe 1 or 2 interactions but that's it. Unlike Instagram, people would actually like a post. So, I do believe it depends and it's not something that's similar to everyone else.
Hi Johnny, thanks for the comparison video of impressions of both platforms. By the way how can photographers effectively use Twitter? I want more deeper learning about how to use Twitter for photography purposes because I'm only use instagram right now I hope you can help me thanks
@@ItsJonnyKeeley I already watched it but I need more information about it, you just only share some little tips hope you do some more information tips and how to in Twitter like how you do in instagram thanks I like your videos. 👍😊
G’day Jonny, I love your tips and advice, they’re very useful and changed the way I post and engage with my followers. I’ve never used Twitter and maybe need to repost my content there to try your experiment. My Instagram experience is completely random. Some days I post and gain up to 3000 new followers in a day, then the following week I’m lucky to see double digits. No idea what I, doing, but I’m enjoying it and I guess that’s why I’m still posting.
Great vid!!! I do have a good impressions from hashtags, even nowadays. My delivery of pictures are lower now with this recent changes, but still pretty good. An example from a picture I posted 2 days ago: i have 8500 followers 6500 impressions, 3000ish from #. Still doing ok...
I didn’t know much about Instagram and got restricted many times because of was liking and following a lot of people. Should I make a new account or continue the existing one?
Hi Jonny, Nice to e-meet you and finally to connect. Your videos are great and I am a huge fan of yours. I have a question for you. While I am watching the first part of your video you go to the insights of your posts and read the impressions: from home, From profile, from hashtags and other. Well, if a read my insights I don't see the impressions from hashtags. Do you think it's because I have a business account rather than a creator account.. My IG is an account for pictures... Thanks in advance, have a great day, Barbara

There are non photographers on twitter too. In fact I would say that the majority of users on Twitter are not photographers.
@@ItsJonnyKeeley Yeah, but its still a circlejerk for youtube personalities and other popular instagrammers.

yes, I dont know anyone who uses twitter acutally. its pretty dead here too.

Excellent analysis!! Nothing against IG, but the ability to reach new people via twitter is unmatched anywhere else imo.
Yeah and it’s super subtle about it too

Nope, I don’t earn from the posts themselves but I do get work from posting indirectly.
Twitter in the Netherlands is a dead platform! Nobody uses it besides some ppl that like to bash TV shows.
