  • Germinating seeds indoors has several advantages. Firstly if you're using seeds from a packet that has a sow by date that you've passed or from a packet that was opened in a previous growing year and your seeds don't germinate. It's time to get some fresh seeds. If your seeds do germinate they are viable and you have got a 'head start' on the growing season. Also. You can sow what's left in the packet with confidence. Now let's take a look at some seeds I started a few weeks ago and see what we can conclude.

Good morning Jim, nice 1 i noticed the seeds that didn't germinate where suttons funny thing is i had 2 packs of suttons spring onions and the same thing happened with them even though they had physically just been opened and plenty of date. Have just bought some more from Yorkshire seeds will be hopefully germinating those this week.
    Take care, look after yourself

I followed your video on this methods with carrots, and they've already germinated and out of the ground. Awesome. Thank you. Now to try some peppers the same way.

It's now over a month since I sowed these seeds. The gourmet shallots have still not germinated and some seeds on wet tissue don't look like they are going to germinate either. I need some fresh seeds.

Joan here again. My question today is do you keep the seeds misted while they are germinating. 🇨🇦

Jim, do you keep the seeds on the tissue in the dark while germinating? Thanks

Warm and moist will do the trick. Dark or light it doesn't matter but once germinated light is a 'must'. Jim.
