I appreciated so much this gentle, intelligent, and perceptive discussion of woodlands . Sometimes, one gets caught up in getting a good image, but forgets to appreciate the significance of the place or time. Talking through the various elements of all the these beautiful images caused me to appreciate each one in a much deeper way. And the extra bonus of referencing Eva Cassidy, reminded me how much I enjoyed her musical talents. Thank you for sharing this.
Wonderful chat Simon. Interesting to listen to you and Joe critique each others images and give your own personal take on the woodland. Masterful job on your prints. The images are stunning.
Happy Birthday Simon and thank you very much for sharing your amazing video it's an absolute pleasure to not only view this beautiful work but to listen to two of the best photographs interpretations of nature and woodland scenes really enjoyed watching thank you once again for sharing this video
Well first of all happy happy birthday! I hope you've had a lovely day. This video is simply beautiful - a privilege to be able to watch and listen to two great photographers sharing their love of our woodlands. I can empathise with everything you say. And the images are just incredible! I so enjoyed that Simon! 👏
Thank you so much for sharing this Simon. A real pleasure to listen to you both. I hope that more will come of your collaboration with Joe, obviously meant a lot to you both. Have thoroughly enjoyed both books, couldn’t get to the exhibition but the Woodland Sanctuary book came from a generous friend who did. Thanks again. All the best.
Thank you for sharing this small but informal conversation. I am very pleased that you have taken the time out of what may seem like a long, hard day to walk the grounds to capture these images. Please let John know tat I also loved his invite and interruption of the images.
Happy birthday ! ..... and happy memories of a wonderful exhibition. Always good to see photographers discussing their work and what drives them to make it.
Thanks for the video Simon, I’ve enjoyed your discussions with Jo, as much as visiting the exhibition in Yorkshire. It’s great to see both your views of your own and each other’s images. On a positive note in response to Jo, our local council has a policy of leaving trees which fall or felled for safety, unless they are causing obstruction to footpaths to encourage biodiversity
what a wonderful video to watch and listen to both of your professional input into the approach to woodland photography,The images that you have displayed here are outstanding, thanks for sharing this remarkable video with us.
Great video and beautiful images, almost a fairy tale. Love the tranquillity of nature shots, take them my self. My favourites are mushrooms, pity they are only there for a week or so, so planning is of the most important since I have to travel an hour to my favourite spot,. But after years I learned to understand nature and the growth of mushrooms. And the images are so rewarding. Thanks so much for sharing this Simon
Love all the images. I love trees but find it difficult to capture what my mind sees. Your approach and thoughts help me to interpret what i see. Mind you here in Australia finding locations like you have is not so easy. Say hi to Meg for me.
Bruce - It is true Australia's woodlands and forests are very different, but nonetheless there is so much beauty and wonder in them if you are prepared to take the time and look. I photograph a lot around Canberra and on the South Coast of NSW and I have no trouble finding good material. In fact, I think we are blessed to have such interesting forests and woodlands. The feel of them is very different to other forests and woodlands around the world. Some of our trees such as the smooth barked gums have a wonderful sculptural quality about them and there is often lovely contrast between the smooth white gums and darker foliage and darker trunks of other trees. Yes, the light can be challenging, but if you spend enough time there are always opportunities.
@@danevarkevisser4670 true. I've just come back from SW Victoria and photographing the big red gums around the Grampians. The red gums each have their own character.
@@brucetreloar3200 The Grampians in Victoria is one of my favourite places in the world. I just love the area and the changing landscape from east to west. It is hard to beat.
Frames - I enjoyed the passionate discussion. As a woodworker, I couldn’t help but notice the interesting frame design. As I think it complimented the design well, what species was used?
Great video! Wonderful images! And Happy Birthday! It looks like your prints have been dry mounted on foamboard and then matted, is that correct? And there's no glazing (glass or plastic) in the frames? If you guys were selling these pieces, would you, or did you, provide glazing or leave them unglazed? Thanks!
Thank you very much! That's right. They were sold without glazing at the exhibition, but it can be added retrospectively. Some have since been sold with glazing.
I love looking at your photos of trees. They draw me in, they speak to me. All the elements are where they should be. Great harmony.
Great chat Simon, amazing story and congratulations again in the gallery with Joe
Outstanding - thanks, Simon!
Thank you very much :)
I loved that Simon - and I'm glad I'm not the only one who'll say hello a tree and greet them like an old friend!! That has truly made my day.

I bought your Woodland Sanctuary book last year and absolutely love it.
Fantastic value for all those wonderful images. 😀
This video prompted me to spend more time immersed in this book.
Your images work so well together.
It makes me long for Autumn!
Thank you very much Chris 😄
Happy birthday! I missed the two weeks, I think.
Hi Thank you, I learned a lot from you.

Thank you very much. The frames are made from Ash. Designed and built for us :). I think there's a bit of info in the video description.
