Jack Tilley The only thing a writer does, especially in an original screenplay, is create the story and the characters. Directors are powerful and actors are pretty. Kermode doesn't even mention the screenplay category even though it's theoretically regarded as one of the "top five prizes."
I got them all right. Including Best supporting Actress (which was the most contentious) because these days the Oscars have become so easy to predict there's almost no point even having nominee's
I don't agree about Seth Macfarlane, I loved him last year because he took risks. I like Ellen though, although she was quite tame. They need to get Whoopi back....I predicted most of the awards correctly except for The Act of Killing which I thought would win and Spike Jonze who I hoped would win so that was a bonus. I predicted Lupita although I wasn't sure if they'd give it to her after the Bafta fiasco. I thought Steve McQueen deserved the director award but it was always going to go to Alfonso. Dallas Buyers Club was excellent but for me Fassbender and Ejiorfor produced the best male performances.....
I'd kind of like to see Trey Parker and Matt Stone do it. They'd be even less tame that Seth was. Although they'd end up getting far too many lawsuits afterwards.
I did the Oscars official online ballot + got Best Film, all the actor awards, director + cinematography right. I guessed 15 right out of 24 in total. A fun little tool for a cheeky bet with your friends around award season. It'll be up again next year on Oscars official website.
I didn't think Spike Jonze would win, but I was so glad my wish came true.
Nobody cares about writers.
Jack Tilley Actually, Inception didn't get original screenplay that year. King's Speech did.
