You can definitely keep them shorter, most aren't kept that long. I have a maltese mix that I keep the same length as a labrador, and I don't brush her at all between grooms really. As long as you get them regularly groomed to keep them shorter you could absolutely look after a coton
My parents keep their Coton short, which saves on the grooming, but she still needs more frequent grooming than e.g. my German Shepherd. Since their fur is more of a cotton-like hair (hence their name), the fur tangles very easily. Outside of the regular brushing, once every month my mother spends 3 hours washing, brushing and combing her. During Fall and Winter it could be more frequent. And again, they keep her fur short. Still fantastic dogs, though. Very intelligent, sassy and affectionate.
I have a coton . They are the best little lap dogs, always wanting to be close to you. I keep mine in a "puppy cut," very short. I take her to a groomer once a month. They are very smart and love a routine. This is a show dog; mine is a home dog.
I love how she is very overdramatic when the puppies bite her to show them she doesn't enjoy it. She makes a big deal for them to see it is wrong. Idk if that's why she actually reacts that way but that's what I get from it.
My great aunt had a coton. After my aunt's passing, Tilly went to live with one of my cousins. She's incredibly sweet and the whole family adores her. She's also a licensed therapy dog, and my aunt said her specialties were nursing homes and children's hospitals because she was small enough to lay on the hospital beds with patients.
I think the banding looks super silly, like you have this adorable dog with such a beautiful hair but you don't even get to see it most of the time 😅 Yeah, I get it, it's less work if you don't have to brush it everyday but still..
Our family dog growing up was a Coton who passed away almost exactly a year ago. He was the sweetest, fluffiest little guy. His least favorite thing in the world, besides thunder, was baths, so we never grew that long coat on him 😂 Little Odette is just precious!
I’m so sorry you lost your furry fluffy boy. It’s such a hard thing to have to go through. But you had him for a long time, and I’ll bet he knew just how loved he was!
