I can't believe people actually made a big deal back then about a skin colour. Who cares about your skin colour its not like we can help the way we were born.
In ways your right, I agree. In South America there was a slave trade too, but they were not as harshly discriminated and segregated against as they were, sometimes are in North America. they mostly blended well into society. Every human was created equal. Upbringing and surrounding carve them into who they become. Thats why its just better to ignore sometimes, he knows he got a special hand in his education. hopefully he becomes grateful and passes that gratefulness and respect onto his kids.
Yes I am getting a university education, more specifically an engineering education where I am taught to think critically and analytically (which basically means I don't have time for sociology or other "thought provoking" courses). All I said, and still say, is that I think true equality means cleaning the slate and moving forward together on an equal playing field. Am I wrong in thinking that?
Consider it paying back dues of history. History is mainly why theres a problem today. We segregated people, changed thier way of thinking and life. Only time will fix this. We should educate more on both sides, to fix the issues of today.
Back then I went to school with them and dances and hung out with a few after school. The only time I ever had a problem with the blacks in Halifax was after The black panthers left. I always thought they were treated really bad by the City of Halifax They sould have been given a fair price for their property when the city took Africeville from them. But thats the way the city fathers were they didn't give a shit about anyone when they needed the property.
Yeah and with a lot of white arsehole racists beating up colored people in alley ways with baseball bats, or getting denied a dinner at a restaurant because of your color. And these guys called themselves "christians" its the sad part.
Maybe. And maybe in the 60's UA-cam was invented. I mean just maybe? The facts would show from the clip itself that from the reaction of the respondent that the term was derogatory and from the swift apologies of the reporter that not only did he have prior knowledge that the word was inflammatory, but his actions were willful. Use the internet to study the historical usage and acceptability of said word. In short, people have killed and been killed for the usage of that word for +/- 300 years.
That is exactly the opposite of what should happen, in my opinion. We've been paying the "back dues" for decades now. My generation should not be held accountable for mistakes made by our ancestors. I never took part in any of the segregation or killing, nor do I want to. What I want is for everyone to be given a fair crack at life and not be handed something someone else worked for just because of history. If we move on together, on an equal playing field, then the wound has healed.
@MyHealingSoul paying $17000/ year for university and driving me deep into debt when my buddy down the hall goes for free. What bothers me even more is that since he's not footing the bill I, and we, the taxpayers are paying for him to come here and not take his studies seriously. Again, whenever we talk about how we have to pay for our education he pulls out a line like "Your ancestors gave blankets infected with small pox to our ancestors to kill them off"). But again, neither
I dont know how it is out West, sounds bad. theres discrimination everywhere, by uneducated people. Sometimes its caused by hand outs, such as Blacks getting free(or even paid to go to school). I guess thats earned from the past. Dont worry about the outside, just take care of the problems causing the problems. Stricter guidelines and education within the Native community is needed. You guys have the most opportunity of Any race in Canada. Sometimes management just needs an overhaul.
@wavejumpinseadoo I nor he can relate to that, it's not like it was his grand father or some other relative that he knows. He was brought up in the same lifestyle as me with the same opportunities as me, except he gets a lot handed to him, and that is what I don't like. And my blood boils when aboriginals are given homes, exempt from tax, given a free education and then squander it all. There is absolutely no excuse for that. Again, I like my friend, but he doesn't fully
@MyHealingSoul First of all, a very good friend of mine is Mi'kmaq, but for my generation ( I'm 19 years old) the animosity directed at aboriginals is mainly jealousy. I don't know anyone my age who dislikes aboriginals for their culture or for being different, the main reason I don't like a lot of them is because they are given so much for free that we have to pay so dearly for. Now I know that in the past our ancestors hurt your ancestors, but in the present, I don't like
When is someone going to do a documentary on the treatment of Whites going to an All Black populated country or city? All I have heard of when they go there is to better the place or explore it. Why is this? Racism perhaps is the realization that people realize the conditions the world has seen or heard about Blacks and think they will bring it to their country or city.
Now there is forced multiculturalism. Okay fine lets support being different. Gotta be fair about it then. The aboriginal people of canada get to do a special aboriginal (aboriginal people only) boot camp for the army training, and yet there is no separate boot camp for black folk, german folk, celtic folk, latino folk, or oriental types. WHY IS THAT?
1:53 -- That interviewer sounds the most racist out of anybody
What a gaslighter...tries to clean it by saying he said "negro" when he CLEARLY said something else.
For 1962 this is pretty solid
Some can only see colour not the person.
the king I’m prejudiced, but don’t know why.
Publius Maximus Manlius probably because of your bad experience with blacks
@@thecraplordsell4575can u stop saying blacks and just say African Americans or black people blacks just sounds disrespectful af

This is not racist by 1962 standards if you look at the customs in the day elsewhere, Nova Scotia was one of the more tolerant places
I know one reporter who made a large donation to the NAACP...

That black dude said it right. There is prejudice on both sides
He lived in Canada. He was afraid he would be attacked
@1:30 That lady has bags under her eyes that was hard to look at. Was being a house wife that stressful back then?
That entire exchange starting at 1:54. LAWL Canada.
These were the good old days. When it was safe to walk the streets.. No gangbangers, no drug dealers..

@wavejumpinseadoo the value of a dollar since so much is given to him nor does he appreciate that money is very difficult to earn.
