Me personally i think the pacers and thunder being competitive is good for their team development and for the league. The thunder and Pacers are at the point of their rebuild where they have identified their core pieces moving forward. I doubt either keep it up & the pacers might sell some players but both been better than i thought

As a Thunder fan, we don’t need to tank. We already have so much young talent. Also the fact that the name Tre Mann was never said is wild. Tre Mann has all of the tools to be a superstar. He’s just on a roster that has Lu Dort, Josh Giddey, and Shai already. We have a million firsts so we don’t need to be that pressed about adding value to ours. I’m surprised that you never said anything about the center position. The biggest thing holding us back is the lack of a center. We’re running JRE at center but he’s a forward. If we can get a star center in there, we’ll take a massive leap. We’ll also get better as our young guys develop. Also thank god Paolo went #1 because we would’ve looked like dumbasses if we had passed on him and he went to Houston.

Only thing they need is shooting and maybe one more shot creator coming off of the bench. They are only a couple years away. Now is the time they should be taught how to win and close out games. Tanking will only kill the confidence of their young players.

    • @treykennedy8897

But we shouldn't force it this year, or fight for a playoff spot. That would be dumb. We should rest the main guys plenty so we can get guys like Tre opportunity, let Shai have fun out there and keep him happy & healthy. We should still sorta tank this year. And if youre sorta tanking, you might as well fully tank. Why wouldn't we with how incredible the top 5-10 guys are in this draft?? I do LOVE that we're already so competitive and your right, Tre has a deep bag.

Thunder fan here. It’d be great to get Wemby, but we’re definitely at the very least a .500 team when everyone is healthy and playing together properly. If Presti doesn’t shut anyone down late season I think we can easily win 30 games. Which would put us in a 6 and later position in the draft barring any miraculous falling of the ping pong balls. I’ve watched every okc game this year and last. The big differences are that this season Shai can get any shot he wants and no shot he takes is a “bad shot” reminds me of Kawhi. Poku looks comfortable and mature for the first time in his career. Josh giddey is still developing his shot and needs a better form if he wants to continue developing considering that his mid range game is non existent besides long floaters and 3 point shot isn’t quite there either. Lu dort needs to take a step back and know he isn’t our second guy on offense anymore. J dub looks incredibly talented when put in the right scenario but is having trouble inserting himself in the game. He goes long periods of time barely touching the ball but he’ll get there with time.

You hit the nail on the head of what I’ve been thinking about as a Pacer fan. They’re playing good, they have a good young core. But Is it enough? The Pacers have had multiple good not great eras. And I have a feeling they all started like this. Had a good enough team and ran with it. This is a ringless NBA franchise, if they want to change that they’re gonna have to start shooting for the stars. Tyrese and Benn are going to be stars, but are they superstars? No team has won a title without a superstar since the 03-04 Pistons, and I can say with confidence that I highly doubt the Indiana Pacers are breaking that streak. They have a good core, but it needs to be amazing if they plan on doing anything serious. Need a superstar player. They aren’t getting it in FA. They have to draft it, and with the way they’re playing it would take a miracle to land a player with even star potential in the mid to late teens. I’m still on board for tanking. We’ve seen that they can play really well together. Now let’s gather more talent so they can play even better.

As a pacers fan, I am happy with the winning culture. A 14% chance of getting the no. 1 pick isn't worth losing and not developing the young players we already have. I heard once we got Tyrese Haliburton that Turner wanted to play along side him. Sabonis played the 5 a lot when he was on the team, so now that Turner is playing the 5 he's been rolling to the rim more often and getting into better position to rebound/defend. I wouldn't mind resigning Turner, but if we get a really good offer for him I wouldn't be opposed trading him.

    • @lobby_boy5382

The argument is pacers team isn't good enough to win a ring even if your young players develop well and you get some more solid players. Your also not gonna attract a big name free agent. So getting a superstar from the draft is really your only option.

    • @bball713

I agree, but the thing is people think two first round picks around 20ish are good enough for him. Like no, picks in the 20s are nothing but role players a majority of the time. Turner and Hields values are too high to just be disposed of for a future 20th overall pick. That wont help us at all. Id rather just keep them and continue what we have here

Look the Thunder signed SGA to a massive extension and made him the Face of the franchise, they even retained Shai's right hand man of fellow country men in Lu Dort to a multi year deal to stay as one of OKC's cornerstone piece from Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, Poku to Tre Mann, Jalen Williams & Ousmane Dieng.
Heck they even signed vets to multi year deals as well not just to make Shai happy but give this young Thunder continuity, key role players such as Kenrich and Muscala are now there for more years to come not only young players can learn from them both of these players are players u want in a contending team they still are very productive as players.
OKC is pushing the agenda to get better rapidly but still stacked for years to come with the endless amount of picks, them being competitive will just help their growth, development & improvement in the league like their future is very fucking bright as hell.

I agree with you on that, but Im still on the fence about Myles. He's kind of the perfect center to play with Reese and Ben and is just entering his prime. The teams cap would allow them to give him a front-loaded deal that gets kore team friendly when its time to give Haliburton his max deal. But is he really worth the contract or the gamble he could leave at the end of the year? I dont know.
On the video........if the Pacers got Wemby its a wrap for the rest of the league, and they might have a future dynasty on their hands. But it's not gonna happen unless Haliburton gets hurt, and they trade Turner and Hield, and have a horrible finish to the season. This draft is far too good to get tunnel vision for Wembanyama. They can just miss the playoffs and still get a very good piece to add to their young core. No way they should legitimately tank for any 1 guy.

I don’t think that tanking should even be a consideration this season because the most important thing for the thunder is player development and that is achieved through playing competitive basketball. The thunder have enough draft capital to get almost any player they want. You need 8 1sts for this player? We can do that twice. Thunder are building a winning culture already following the system, environment & Infastracture that Sam Presti instilled within the organisation it's bout time they be contenders once again and be back into contention.
As Presti said once OKC is back in the playoffs, they want to make an arrival not just an appearance cuz they wanna compete to win multiple titles.
SGA is getting the Durant/ Westbrook treatment as well that makes it even better for him, it's like the 2012 Thunder but is deeper and has more depth from 17 players plus the owner isn't cheap anymore like before cuz he learned his lesson and know he made a big mistake in letting go Harden thus letting a dynasty slip in his hands.
It won't happen again this time cuz Presti has more reigns and control over the team now rather than before he just builds the roster for the team, ownership listens a lot to Presti and from management to staff they all follow his calls now.

First for everyone who says SGA doesn't fit the OKC timeline should jump off a building, second of all the Thunders at this moment are finally showing their worth as a young team. I predicted that OKC may have a similar season to the last year New Orleans Pelicans, where I we see they weren't supposed to be in the play-in tournament via to a small injury to Zion but they did the unthinkable by trading, for Cj McCollum and becoming good enough to make the 8th seed and be in the play in tournament where their rookies show their true value and even made the playoff despite losing the series to the Suns in an impressive 6 games. OKC can produce their future this season in either two ways, 1. They find good veteran/veteran talents through the trade deadline to help build growth in the team and make the play-in tournament or 2. They can shut down SGA and every good talent to tank for a Victor or Scoot. I believe this Thunder team isn't going too bad this year and could take a page out of the last year's New Orleans Pelicans team and go for the sky to show what they're truly made of either way the sky is the limit for OKC!!

judging by the improvement, i think the thunder are doing okay. poku has improved A LOT, especially on the defensive end. jdub playing like a veteran player with his decision making (outside of last game lol). some additions like isaiah joe and JRE really help the spacing. when chet is back our center problem will be gone. the only problem is the fit, especially with giddey and dort. they both really have to learn how to shoot if they want to play alongside shai. can judge to quick but i think under chip england the problem will be gone soon

8:05 Nah that’s exactly how you should be thinking about it. Obvious when you have a generational prospect like Victor you should shoot for #1 but a lot of the best players in the league come from outside of the top 10. The biggest example being the back to back MVP Jokic who was drafted in the 2nd round during a commercial break.

Great take on Pacers. One thing you must consider is if MYLES wants to stay a Pacer. He can get good value elsewhere and so he’d have to be sold on not only staying on a team that put him on trade blocks for years (but is finally featuring him) but handling maybe less money for what seems maybe an excellent fit. This team is gelling and loving playing with each other apparently in a way that is unique. So it’s a rare possibility culture and opportunity may trump money (a La Jalen Smith) but this is Turner’s big opportunity and for sure Pacers wanted him to shine so it can work out best for everyone - whether he goes and trade value is up or stays and they all agree it’s finally working. He must string together more chunks of consistent game flow to win over some Pacers fans still but with Ty it seems it’s finally going his way. They are also both just good kind humans who do amazing work for the communities so that seems to be a like bond in personality they have. We Pacers like the kindness as a cukture but happy to have some dawg out there in someone and Mathurin is THAT man. Killer instinct is a must from someone tone elite. It is the house Reggie built after all.

As a Thunder fan I don’t think there is a need for Poku, Chet, and Vic. I’d say our biggest downside is lack of experience and our Center position (Mike Muscala isn’t it). I think we could benefit greatly from acquiring a vet and investing in a good/ already established center in the league.

@@21cabbage97 if you look at it from a talent perspective you are absolutely right. Turner is way better and playing great this season. When you look at what the GS front office has tried to do, 2 timelines essentially so when Steph, Klay, and Draymond are dwindling the young guys can be the Tim Duncan, Kawhi ala San Antonio. That is the plan in GS, they want Moody, Wiseman, and Kuminga to the be next young core and don't want to trade them. Wiseman was a #2 pick, Kuminga #7, they don't wanna give up on them. If I'm GS I absolutely do that, but I just don't think they want to. Not to mention the cap hit of resigning turner in the off-season would cost triple his salary in a tax hit.

  • @aimore5315

I feel like the plan for both team is similar. Play the best basketball you can until all star break. Then depending on your success you choose the direction you'd take for the rest of the season. If you're good enough to make the play offs you continue. If you're not good enough you rest some of your players for a last minute tank, not for Wemby exclusively, but for a better pick in general.
Similar with the vets. If you give the best you got and you are struggling to get in the play in you probably trade them before trade deadline. If you make the play offs you think about trades after the season. This happened with the Thunder in 2020. Everyone thought they would trade CP3, Adams, Schroeder and Gallinari before the deadline, but they were good enough to make the playoffs as a 4 seed and force a game 7 against the rockets. They then traded everyone in the summer when their value was high.

Also the culture stuff at the end is real talk! If you dive deep into Thunder media guys and what’s goin on behind the scenes, the culture seems to be solid. They play hard all the time, no one has let their ego get too big, and they have offensive and defensive systems that are real and can evolve. The teams who are at the bottom (spurs, rockets, magic, hornets, pistons), I only trust the spurs culture to fulfill a rebuild

Actually, the funny thing is wwe haven't seen very many teams tank in the sense of trying to lose. The Hornets aren't trying to lose, they just can NOT get their guys on the floor. Magic don't look like they're trying to lose, they're just not ready. The Rockets might be the exception cause while I don't think the team is trying to lose - they're judt not that good and their coach is probably the worst in all of basketball - the front office might be, can't think of any other reason their coach still has a job.
But the rest of the league? So far we've seen a lot of teams we thought were set up to tank really come out playing. Thunder, Pacers, Jazz, all playing well, especially the Jazz

I don't think anyone outside of the tank happy fans really thought we'd be at the bottom of the west. most thought it would be a 12 seed. probably walk away with a top 7-10 pick with Chet returning
