  • Hi, I thought I'd share my latest build with you. It is a BollAero18 compression ignition 2-stroke engine. I built the engine from plans found at modelenginenews.org (great resource for tips/tricks for the home machinist. Well worth a look). Hope you enjoy.
    Design By Chris Boll
    Bore 0.5" (12.7mm)
    Stroke 0.56" (14.22mm)
    Displacement 0.11cuin (1.8cc)
    Ignition Compression (Diesel*)

Great to see another of my designs running well, and I like the tank arrangement.

Thanks Chris. It was a lot of fun to make and I learned a lot. I used replacement glass from a Vape/e-cigarette for the tank. Obviously impractical for any sort of flight as its quite fragile but looks the part. Also only runs for 2 mins so a bit small. P

I've just had the first bursts out of one of mine (me and a mate did a team build on 3x of these). I've only had it fire up by bobbing some fuel around the intake so far but it's a good easy starter. I didn't get the stud tight enough into the end of the crank though so after a few goes it slackened off during starts. Will easily sort that. Thanks for sharing the plans Chris - really satisfying to get those first spins

Excellent engine Pat, a nostalgia trip to playing with these engines as a boy.

I'm modeling this in Fusion 360 for practice but unfortunately can't make one right now so it was really cool to see one working! :D

nice one. I now do all my models in cad first to really understand them before cutting metal. Really helps. Good luck.

Dude this is awesome! I have pretty much built one of these but I have never lapped a piston or cylinder. Any pointers?

Hi I’ve started this engine how much taper do you need in the cylinder for one end to the other?

hi, i think about 0.01-0.03mm. Hard to measure so really done on feel. Dwelling for a bit longer at the bottom and 'sweeping' to just over the top of the exhaust port did it for me both times. Excellent guide here adriansmodelaeroengines.com/catalog/main.php?cat_id=178

hi! i'm embarking on this build as well soon, just a question, did u make the pistons out of cast iron? it's not easy to get cast iron rods... will normal steel do? what did u use?

    • @patpending3925
      @patpending3925  3 роки тому +1

Hi I used cast iron for the piston and leaded EN1A steel for the liner. The cast iron was found on eBay. Sometimes you can find bits that used to be sash window counterweights as scrap though I've never been that lucky.

@@patpending3925 allright i'll have to keep my eyes peeled for some leftover cast iron somewhere! thx! (might steal the fueltank idea as well :D)

Hi I think this is a 9x4 beech prop. I have switched to 8x4 for running in the ballraced engines at higher revs but harder to start as you have less of a flywheel effect.
