- Sailing vessel Tapatya. It's time to head back to Tapatya :)
This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of.
These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. You make a real difference!!

Beautiful sunset!❤❤
Your shop looks SO clean! I am jealous.
I’ve spent a fair bit of time out there recently, Michael, and it could still be better organised and cleaner! 👍😂
Those little mini Lathes look incredibly useful for their size. BSA rebuild , I’ll be watching and know a few people from my school days who would be interested. 😀
Thanks Chris. I’ll get to it at some stage 👍😃
Happy for you ...ready to go back ...for a new year of pleasure...can't wait to see you sailing❤😊good night
Merci Jean 😃😃
Enjoying the preparations, and the anticipation. 👍
Thanks JayGee. Me too 😃
Thank you for the update, Tony. Hope you are finding warmer weather back in Spain so the work on Tapatya goes quickly and pleasantly.
Thanks Matt. Yes, we’re settling back into it. It’s certainly warmer 👍😎
Very interesting update...Have a safe trip back to Tapatya
Thank you Frans 😃😃
Wow, this is incredible work! Were currently refitting our 65 catamaran, and its so reassuring to know were not the only ones diving into big projects like this. Thanks for sharing your journey!
Thanks guys . Quite a project you’ve got there! 👍
@SVTapatya For Sure haha! Thank you so much for following our journey ❤️🔥❤️
Leaving the swarf on your lathe can harbor moisture and lead to rust. Indexable inserts are great, big improvement over having to braze a carbide to a tool holder and constantly having to resharpen it on a diamond wheel...
I always brush the lathe clean when I’m done, Mike 👍😃
Good work. with regard to the lathe tools, depending on type - as well as rotating to a new cutting surface you can also flip over.😀👍⛵️
Thanks Norman. Yes, I hadn’t considered that. Good tip (he says punily!)
Happy travels to the boats and enjoy the preparation jobs.
Thanks Henk 😃😃
