Also, maybe an idea for a future video, something I haven’t really seen very many people do, is show us your prints you have framed up on the wall and talk to us about them. I’m always curious about what other photographers choices of art they choose to hang up on their walls and why.

Seems when we begin the equipment used is simple, not many options. But we slowly build our kits and over time we may have an extensive collection. That’s good right? Now I just take my beautiful Nikkormat FT3 with an ai 50mm F2 attached. Maybe I’ll sneak a 28 in the bag but that’s it. To be honest I wish I kept it this simple from day one.

The spending never stops, that's for sure. They made improvements to the cameras over the years and sold more cameras but I'm not sure photography got much better.

This is a battle every photographer knows. Usually I end up taking too much gear with me. I've been trying to teach myself that even if I have an interchangeable lens camera, doesn't mean I absolutely must be changing lenses while I'm out and about. Changing lenses is less time looking at photo opportunities. Less chances of dropping something, getting debris inside and so on as well. I tried this on a two day trip, I only took the Nikon FE and 105mm f/2.5. It worked surprisingly well. The pictures were of course different than I would have taken with a 50, a 28 or so on. But I didn't have to think about it, since I only had that lens on me.
p.s. Maybe you need a Nikonos so you don't have to go filmless even while diving. Although I suspect FP4 isn't going to cut it underwater :)

Travelled a fair bit and worked professionally for a few years with just a 24, 50 or 55 micro, and a 105.

It's so cool to see what other people choose to bring. On 35mm, my go-to prime trio (on Olympus OM) are the 28/2.8, 50/1.8 (will be swapping to a 1.4, the 1.8 came with the camera and I haven't gotten around to getting the 1.4 yet) and the 100mm f/2.8 (on the OM system, it's the size of a typical 50mm lens which is so small for the focal length). So 28, 50 and 100 for me. Thank you for sharing, I'd love to see a follow-up video showing the photos you get with this combo when you get back! Cheers

Excellent presentation of that always difficult dilemma. Smart choosing the 100 asa film as more chance of not being affected the scanners to much. I would favour the 105mm f2.5 that I have to be added to your list. So for me wide angle 24mm or 28mm. 50mm pancake and the 105mm. I would also bring my 1.4 Nikon tele converter to increase the options for very little space. Have you used a tekeconverter ? Or is that extra piece of glass to much of an interference?

Hello Rob. Was a subscriber to your channel before learning that by chance you are hosting a workshop in 2 weeks in my hometown (Taking it to the Streets in KW). The workshop description references using a digital camera, but like you, I shoot a lot of B&W film. Just wondering if the format of the workshop could also accommodate using a film camera and if so if you have any lens recommendations (I have a Nikon FE with 24, 50 or 105 or a Leica M6 with a 15, 35 or 50)? Thanks and look forward meeting you!

I picked up the 135mm f/2.8 at my local camera store for $100 and couldn’t have been more happy with that purchase. Love that lens! Whoever had it before me removed something to de-click the aperture ring which is a little annoying.

This was a great video. Anyone who has ever owned more than one camera or more than one lens has been in some version of this dilemma. "What do I bring?" I loved hearing your thought process on this specific trip and why you went with what you went with. I would watch more videos like this as every time a trip is approaching, I try to find someone who is thinking through the type of trip I am taking!!! (Also, I bought an F3 after a recent video of yours and I am in love with it. I have the 35 F2 and the 50 1.8 pancake [old vers., with closer min foc dist.], both are great lenses! Looking for a telephoto next... 85... 105 2.5 or 135 2,2.8,3.5 ? 🤔 any recs?) Thanks! Loved these videos lately. Cheers!

If you don’t have a 85mm then get the 105. It’s wonderful. If you already have a 85, then get the 135 or 180. Also a good choice is the 105 macro
