I met Rob in LA 30 years ago . He was in a bar I was hanging out in . I approached him to talk and he was the nicest down to earth Rock Star I’ve ever met , and I’ve met a lot through the years . He was so cool and talked with me for a half hour about music . I will never forget how cool and kind he was ! A true gentleman!
that's awesome. Dimebag was the same way, Vinnie also. I miss those guys bad, the world is so much darker and meaner without those two huge hearts.
My friend Gala worked catering at Freedom Hall in Louisville KY- she always talked about how polite the " kids with the wild hair" were as opposed to the entertainers you would think would be nice to people -

Yes he is. I love the guy. They were my first concert as a KISS opener on the Dynasty tour. Saw them many times after. Didn’t know he was gay, and the cool thing is, no one cared! We just love his voice and stage presence.

thats why he sings powerful & with Passion on the song Reckless. im guessing that song is about that even though he doesn't say it is in his Book.

Two iconic front men who never lost their ability to scream, even in their golden years. Neither is like the other. Personally, I've idolized Rob Halford ever since I was first introduced to Priest back in the early 80's as a teenager. He's my very favorite metal singer of all time.
I've loved Sammy as well since way back before his VH years. I've been a fan of the Red Rocker... equally as long.
Many singers have fallen to the wayside over the years due to their now inability to really sing anymore. But both Rob and Sammy still have it after all these decades. Both are still going strong with no signs of stopping anytime soon.

My first concert was Judas Priest on their Screaming for Vengeance tour with Iron Maiden opening for them on their Number of the Beast tour, Oct 13th 1982 Pittsburgh Civic Arena, I was 17 years old at the time.
What a way to start out being a concert goer huh?
And I've seen many other fantastic one's since but I gotta tell you, none of them, Priest, Maiden, Def Leppard, Krokus, Fastway, Sammy Hagar, ZZ Top, Ted Nugent are like they were back in their heyday, I was fortunate to be the right age at the right time and saw them all in their prime.
I just saw Priest three days ago, and it was mind boggling how good Rob’s voice is. I’ve seen Judas Priest with Rob seven times going back to Defenders of the Faith, and he’s always been great, but in the latter years he’d lost a bit oh his high end-which was offset by ever increasing control and pitch. I likened it to a pitcher who couldn’t hit 100 on the radar gun anymore, but had perfected his curveball to still be unhitable.
Well, there was no need for any qualifiers Thursday night. His control and pitch were still fantastic, but he was hitting ALL the high notes like it was 30 years ago. It was a fantastic show.
Yea saw them a few years ago at rockfest wisconsin 4 day concert.
He left out that he don't smoke, that's what trashed David Lee Roth's voice damn near 30 years ago. Now it's so bad I get a headache listening to him, and that goofy white buzzcut and getup he wears 😆
I saw Priest 2 weeks ago in Chicago. Rob was excellent. The band was excellent. Pity Faulkner got sick. Hope he recovers. He was magnificent.
Preist was at the 2004 Ozz Fest. They KILLED it.
Seen the Metal God 6 times, First time, Screaming 4 Vengeance 82’ One the best live metal acts all time for me, “Many Have Tried, To Prove That They’re Faster But They Didn’t Last As They Died As They Tried Hell Bent Hell Bent 4 Leather”
Screaming for Vengence is one of my favorite album... Have the original press on vynil... I wish I could have seen that show...!!!

Tipton is one of my favorites too...as well as Downing...but mostly when they were together with Priest... Tipton and Downing Pioneered ....The Dual Lead Guitar Solo... Their Timing of The Trading Back n Forth during a Solo was just Impecable...I mean...who did that back then...or even does that much today...??? No one really...except for Murray and Smith of Iron Maiden...

I think it's cool that Rob is clean and has been clean for awhile... Living life on life's terms is a beautiful thing.
At the ripe age of 14 I saw them on the screaming for vengeance tour in 1982, only other band I had seen up to that point was Van Halen. I wasn't yelling or screaming, I was staring, thought I was in heaven for two and a half hours. Amazing
I was 17 when I saw them in 82 on that tour, and Iron Maiden opened for them on their Number of the Beast tour, my first concert ever.
Funny, I saw him on my 14th birthday back in 84. It was my first concert. I want to say it was Defenders of the Faith tour.

Hagar's Standing Hampton, along with the first Montrose Lp, is rock n roll perfection.
Absolutely, his two best works he had anything to do with, I got to see him open up for ZZ Top on their Eliminator tour in the summer of 83, he was touring for his Three Lock Box album.
Montrose and Standing Hampton are undoubtedly his two best albums, and it's no real surprise that his band for Standing Hampton was essentially Montrose sans Ronnie Montrose, apparently there was something that just clicked between him and those guy's.
HSAS is his 2nd best album after Montrose
I was at that show in Albuquerque NM. It was my second time seeing JP. You rocked Rob Halford. Much respect!!
I've lost track of how many times I've seen the might Judas Priest. Each time I was reminded why I love that band so much. Last time I saw them, Black Label Society opened. Zakk and the boys were awesome, but JP mopped the floor with them. What a night.

I’ve become a big fan of Rob over the years. JP was a little before my time so I was too young to appreciate them as a band. But I was blown away when I caught them live at ozzfest. Truly awesome to see someone so in tune with their performance.
Talk about two of the best live performers. So glad these guys are doing well and still rocking.

I will not say drugs and alcohol are always detrimental to a person's well being. If they become detrimental a wise person will put them aside and walk away. Rob made a wise decision for himself.

I know from friends I had who did coke and crack in the 80s-90s that coke isn't as addictive as opioids. I can only think of a few people who overdosed on coke. Of all the people I knew that smoked crack, they're all grown and respectable adults. One is even a cop. People have a much harder time just walking away from heroin.
@@unicornsteaks6769 Ya one of my daughters died from it in 2013, she was only 24. Of course many jumped on me and my late wife saying "bad parenting" well you can't follow your teens around with drones, only hope they listen to what you told them about the dangers of lethal drugs like heroin. Lot of they're old friends x boyfriend's are now also dead. I know three that died last year! Very fkn sad!

Very sorry about your daughter, I know what it's like, my son was murdered days before this past Xmas by a junkie who 2 days before stabbed his 9 week pregnant girlfriend in the abdomen, then he sat on her chest and cut her ear off and stabbed her in the neck and left her for dead.
2 days later he returned to the scene of the crime looking for anything of value, my son had just got his first place several weeks before and was tickled pink about it, unfortunately he'd moved into the apartment right next door and when that idiot couldn't find anything of value he kicked in the door of my son's apartment and stabbed him to death to steal his car so he'd have a set of wheels, the next day the police found him 2 miles down the road at his best friend's house with my son's car parked in the driveway, I guess he couldn't go on the run very far because he couldn't distance himself that far from his dope source.
The one silver lining to the whole thing is the girl and her unborn child survived, I was just thinking the other day that she'd have had the baby by now, think I'll look her up and tell her how happy it makes me to know the two of them made it, at least everyone didn't come out the loser on that deal.

Great respect for Rob... the man can really sing, and I'm so glad me got past his drug use intact and better than ever. He's grown up and become wiser for it.

@@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn Sammy is every bit as good a singer as Rob, and they both scream quite a bit also. Sammy has actually "sang" a lot more than Rob over the years, I'd think, since he's always been in more melodic band situations.
But they are definitely different types of singers. You can't directly compare them.

Met and saw Rob at the Mason Jar (and other great dives) in Phoenix a few times rocking with Surgical Steel some years back, including his other kickass bands. Also was an extra in one of his videos... Great dude and awesome metal vocalist! Keep rocking Rob!

I was a little surprised to hear Sammy refer to Rob as a screamer, but after thinking about it, it seems true that occasionally Rob’s voice does sound like a precisely controlled scream.
By the late 80's Rob had really perfected his pitched falsetto, and he was using a true or semi-falsetto on a good deal of the material. They were writing more and more songs that kept his voice in that upper range. King Diamond is probably the best example of a true singer in that range, and there are a few moments on the Painkiller album, for example, that sound like Rob was really emulating King. When you age, the higher pitches are often the first thing you lose ability on. I used to be able to emulate just about everything King ever did in that upper range, but 30 years later I can't hit any of that.

Those two guys are Sooooo Rad. Loved them both since the 80s.
That's another reason why Rob is the Metal God, all those years with that voice especially live, doing a line after every song and maintaining that voice and even went stronger for Painkiller in the 90's is beyond impressive. His voice is definitely from another world and that story even furthers that notion. Long live Priest 🤘 💯

Rob is just the Legend! Hearing the Painkiller album for first time changed my life. And im not super into Judas Priest... but that album is insane!
hearing naturally deteriorates over time, few facets, longer hair, shrinking chamber, so on so forth, plus its just old gear, so in ear are GREAT for protecting what's left and dialing it in safely.. props!

Rob really is one of those GREAT live vocalists, saw him twice seattle, vengeance and the tour before, UNREAL, KK and Titon the bass player drummer ALL spot on, unforgettable, saw the stones ten years prior same place and JP blew em away in a big way, and stones were my first they popped my cherry.. Aerosmith same venue mid 80's HORRIBLE, I attribute that to the sound techs tho the mix was flipped bad
but Rob, man, he rolled out on a Harley, they went into Electric Eye.. what a show and they did one my faves later on.. Bloodstone, a ROCKER! really like robs middle chest voice during the rhythm bars like on that cut, then he winds it up to the head voice, WHOOO!.. I never looked at JP as anything more than a great hard rock band, metal? meh.. not for me, just good ol rock n roll! props Rob n Sam, we love ya! enjoy retirement fellas, when ya get there... :-)

I sure didn't come here to play name dropper, but over the last 4 decades I've worked with so many A-listers. Singers and bands that I listened to as a kid growing-up in the 60's & early 70's with NO IDEA I'd ever work with, hang-out with, party with and then become sober with. What is amusing is the large number that people THINK were hard partiers who NEVER did any drinking or drugs. I love Rob's expression of doing it clean and sober the first time "I finally realized what I was missing and felt like I was floating on air." Young talent out there, try it... you'll like it. Along with all the great talent we've lost to drinking and drugs, I can cite likely hundreds of bands that had the talent but NEVER made it because drinking and drugs got in their way and "star makers" saw that and turned away.

The only time I got singer's disease is years back, when I would be obliterated around 1:50 AM, and the karaoke guy would put me on to sing Marvin Gaye and chase everyone outta the bar. Man, I was good at that.
A Sammy Hagar interview usually means Sammy speaks 80% of the time.
Sammy needs to chill, less jimmy Fallon style and more Dave letterman style. He has these greats and then just gets stupid silly instead of deep and sincere. Sometime offensive, Rob is a pro and handled it very well.
He comes across as cringy at times and does do the fallon phony thing.

That last bit from Rob is everything. TOO MANY great Artists deny themselves that simple pleasure, sober. It can be fun and even feel needed to “take the edge off” of nerves or other anxieties with drugs and/or booze. But the real you doesn’t need any of that and never has. It’s not a “blessing” though…it’s just a good decision,
something the addict's mind can't do by design.
