I had the immediate predecessor to this bike, a 1979 GS1000E. Purchased brand new, mine was black with the blue and gold pinstriping. Laid it down once doing about 70 mph and the factory crash bar that I insisted on saved it from major damage...engine wasn't even touched. The worst damage was a flat spot ground into the right side muffler. I had been wanting a VHR exhaust system so rather than buying the replacement part I sprung for the Vance & Hines. Loved it. Early on I replaced the stock points ignition with a Martek unit, ran flawlessly. Wish I'd never sold that bike.
I bought a red GS1100E new when I was 19 in 82 and loved it , gobs of power from idle to redline . And as you can see in your video the image in the mirrors are smooth with the lack of vibration . I went on short hops , long rides and drag raced anyone I could find . I miss it dearly .
At about 5:45 in the video you mention living up north. I live in north central Illinois about 90 miles west of Chicago just off route 80. You caught my attention with your big Suzuki. Way back in 1990 I purchased a barn find '77 GS750 Suzuki with 36000 miles on the clock. I ran that bike up to 109000 miles before selling it in 2003. And like your GS1100 it turned out to be a wonderful do it all bike, better than any other bike I had owned up to that point. Like you at one time I had the own 4 or 5 bikes at a time fever. But that damn GS750 was my most favorite to ride, evident with all the miles I put on the machine. I had the option to buy a GS1150ES at one time but passed on it, kicked myself afterwards but with 5 bikes already in the garage at that time the wife stayed pissed at me all the time. Later man!!😁
lol great bike i have 2 one still in crate, have the 550 e and es same with 1100 e and es. also got 4 gsxr1100 limited 85's in crates and several others like quad zilla etc bought to bike dealers out in the 80's have 830 bikes which with stage 4 cancer i will be giving them to kaplan cycles, all kept in climate control since 82. she is looking good buddy, imo one of the best bikes ever but i will say the nighthawk s is right there with it. fyi gs 550 e i rode around unadilla in 84 it was hillarios but fun with a knobby on the back
WHEN SOMEONE GIVES YOU NEW PARTS FREE RELIGION GOES RIGHT ON THE BACK BURNER. WHEN SUZUKI FITTED THESE THEY JUST LEFT THEM FLAT BLACK. LOOK CLOSE AND YOU MAY FIND THE CARBON FIBER BRACKET I NEEDED TO MAKE TO FIT THE 86 EXHAUST.
Why the Yamaha emblems on the brake calipers? You seem to have a lot of Yamahas in your collection. Are those actually Yamaha brakes? At least the rear caliper looks like a stock Suzuki piece, same as my '79 GS1000E. Wheels are the same as '79 too, except yours are black.
GOOD MEMORIES ARE BETTER THAN BAD MEMORIES EVERY TIME.
This was one of my first bikes. I absolutely loved it and have extremely fond memories of the GS1100E
Like a Swiss army knife that's not made in China that IS a sweet bike
