    Good trick and counter to this is to act like the contact bothers you. Make your opponent feel like his snaps and clubs are effecting you. They will go for it often. Shoot on their reach for a snap or club. Time it. You can also move your head like you are dodging a punch. Their momentum will be for the tie up and you can shoot off of that.

    it's funny I've been doing martial arts for 20 years and wrestling for the past 7 and while I knew this organically, hearing it explained in such simple, straight forward terms makes you think about it. thanks to you and all the other wrestling teachers out there

    Attack attack attack. Awesome video coach. I am guilty of tying up and just standing there. Pull the trigger...awesome.

    I hope Obi gets a % of the revenue for all the abuse he's been through. What a good sport.

    If I am a right leg lead, do I tie up with my left or right?, in the vid he seem to do it with the right

      A general rule is that you should only tie up with the opposite arm of your lead leg and always keep the lead leg arm down to protect the lead leg from leg attacks. This video shows an example for hand fighting and uses both arms to tie up and create more opportunities.

    @d0ez for mentality, Imagine your opponent has a knife in his hand. If he stabs you, you die...an imaginary death. If he cuts you thats allright, you just have to go to the imaginary hospital. Anytime you stop moving, or let your opponent set the pace, you get stabbed. Get a couple little nerf knives and "knifefight" with your friends. Take notice of the speed and aggression needed to be avoid getting stabbed/ to subdue your attacker. Bring that exact level of speed and aggression to the mat.

    • @jonmoris9354
      @jonmoris9354 5 років тому

      No but you create openings its the same in judo if you grab and do nothing you get penelized or you give your opponent a chance to pull the trigger
