I did my master in Germany.
The quality of the faculty members was so great and all of the classes were spoken in English.
You don't need to pay tuition fees, and the living cost is so low. I only spent 700 Euro per month.

Great points she’s making! I was a college student in S.Korea and planned to study in the states for a few months to learn the language/culture. In the end, I transferred the school and got a college degree in the states. You never know what is coming for you. There is always a price for what you do and you will always learn life lessons from exploring different things, at least I did :) Don’t miss out on chances. I really love this one and keep watching others too haha!

It was incredibly competitive to get into my university study abroad program, but it was well worth the long nights at the library just to get my first choice of university.

No. 1 indirectly ties to how some of us sometimes prefer to be more independent in our home country - where actually yes, you'll miss out on opportunities to meet new friends coming from different parts of the world when you study abroad! AND NO.2 was my initial concern before deciding to study abroad. Great video, love it!

I actually study French literature in Algeria (it's a francophone country). It's kinda great for me because as you said studying abroad is expensive plus I think it's gonna be harder for me if I go to study in France. I was a scientific student and I studied my whole life in Arabic (but I talk in French since my childhood). French was the best choice for me... I'm gonna think about that in the near future, thank you !!

I'm new to your channel and like the topics you talk about. I studied abroad too and did a study abroad tag video with one of my best friends who also studied abroad. I was in Barcelona, Spain for 5 months and it was incredible I definitely recommend it. I hope that your time in the UK was pleasant and fun. I also heard that many people didn't want the regret of not studying abroad so that's why I did a semester. I would have loved to study abroad for a year. I definitely think the experience opened my mind in many ways, grew my confidence, and gave me some of the most memorable experiences. Now I have the travel bug and just got back from a trip to China, Japan, and South Korea. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Haha I studied abroad for a year in Singapore and I honestly wish I stayed there! It's such an amazing experience that sticks with you forever and I totally agree! However, I find it funny how we all have these 'secretive' past experiences that have shaped us so much that are only shared with the people that were with us then..

Thank you so much for your advise! I did intend to study at UCL for psychology as UCL was ranked as top 5 for the psychology degrees. But I have a question regarding part time jobs and that is, will it be difficult for a foreign student to get a part time job in London? Like does the law has any requirements for foreigners regarding jobs issues.
(Also, when you refer to college degree, is that referring to bachelor degree? As in the first degree in university? I got a little confused because in my country, our education system doesn't have colleges 😂😅)
Oh, one last thing, I have about 2 more years before I finish my current education and move towards an undergrads degree. I am not sure if this videos refers to both master or undergrads so for an undergrads, will you recommend to study abroad as well ??

I'm a South African Grade 11 student who'd like to study abroad for an English Major but I'm always discouraged to even think about it as the community of people that are in my life don't see it being possible( I'm always being questioned: "what about xenophobia?" or "How are you going to be able to pay?' It's always something) It's only a few people that support me, maybe 2 or 3 that see my vision. The worst part is that my family is convinced that I'm going to study Science or something that is recognised as 'great' or 'impressive' of which doesn't go along the lines of studying for an English Major. I don't know what to do. Please help (even if its just suggestions or advice). I'm really desperate to figure out what I'm actually doing for my future, even if that means going against the life that everyone else sees for me and finally start doing more for myself. I know this video was posted 4 years ago but I do hope to get a response. Thank you.

thanks for this video! i'm still considering this as well. what if you had to choose between studying abroad during your Bachelor degree and studying abroad for Master's? what would your pick be?
btw i miss the food videos! :ppppp

    • @bykchoi
      @bykchoi  6 років тому

They're totally different, really -- studying abroad during my bachelor's degree (aka doing a "study abroad" program) was almost like a vacation! Yes, I was studying and going to class, but the focus was more about the experience, meeting new people, etc. Studying abroad for my master's degree (aka I happened to do my master's degree in another country) was ALSO about the experience, but the focus was more on the studying, so I spent wayyyy more time in the library :) I would probably pick the first (doing a study abroad program, for one semester at LEAST) because it's a truly special time when you're still a college student and not a "full" adult yet. Doing my master's was a great experience as well, but I think it's because I already had that "play" experience when I was an undergrad. It obviously would have been great even if I didn't go abroad as an undergrad, but just different. Hope that makes sense! :)

I can’t say much about cost of living, it’s been so long! Plus the exchange rate was really hard on the US dollar at the time (pre-Brexit). I lived in student housing (specifically in hillside woodside). I wouldn’t recommend my specific house for grad students because it was almost all freshers hahah. it’s not that diverse especially when compared to London but I love Bristol, it’s beautiful and bustling but still walkable :)

Make sure to research which programs you study with. I have heard of some programs have relocated kids and put many Asian students in areas that had high hate crime rates. We shouldn’t support a program that supports anti-Asian hate. Please stop Asian hate! So please make sure to research before you go!

I’d always wanted to travel around Europe (easily accessible from the UK) and I wanted to do full immersion so I needed to do an English program (and not a foreign language one because then it wouldn’t be fully immersive since, well, I’m not fluent in any European languages 😅)

Undergrad or masters? I don’t think the degree/where you got it matters as much as your work/internship experience.

@@bykchoi thank you for a quick response. My son is going for a mechanical engineer bachelor degree and I’ve suggested that he study in Europe for a worldly experience and avoiding the high prices around here (US) but he’s worried that once earned (masters or bachelor) it won’t be looked at the same way in the USA , also worried about picking up a “European work ethic “ that doesn’t align with US mind set. Thank you very much for taking the time to read and answer

It's a waste of time and it's very expensive. And let's not forget how incredibly risky it is going to another country. I don't see the need for it and if you want to learn the language, there are plenty of free sources and a lot of immersion materials available on the internet at your fingertips.
