  • Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

    Another great video. Both the MRT and the BTS are good for at least a year of non use from what I was told. I did see another westerner have an issue an older card that hadn’t been used in three years. So there must be some sort of expiration date to the cards if they don’t get used. Definitely worth the initial 180 baht with gets you 100 baht of travel and a refundable 50 baht deposit if you turn the card back in. Which leaves a mere 30 baht fee to to MRT operator. Make sure you have your passport when buying and requesting service from the friendly service agents in the glass booths. As far a Durian, I am told some people can’t smell the offending oder while other people smell it quite strongly. I myself can’t really smell it. It is surprisingly expensive as far as fruit goes. My girlfriend and her family go crazy for the stuff. Like catnip to a cat.

      Good info. If I remember, maybe 2013, I turned a rabbit card back in. I had a few hundred baht refunded. So that's another option. Another time, I did have less than a hundred on a rabbit. I didn't bother refunding. When I returned about a year later, it was a zero balance. Just in case, I walked up with a passport. It was still active, and they added the cash. I still need to have a friend show me the app for wifi. I think it's only wifi on the MRT. But I'm not sure. I see people scan the phone. Thanks for watching

    These slice-of-regular-life videos in Bangkok are terrific. Thanks. The Mexico City system is pretty good; and very inexpensive. I lived in NYC for a decade, and the trains were fine 99% of the time. I was very impressed. The Bangkok subway seems quite clean for a mass transit system in a city with 10 million people.

      Yes, the trains are spotless and have great AC. They also have a guard on each platform. No real crime, but they keep people behind the line, etc.. plus, they help folks with disabilities

      Thanks, man. I'm just having some fun. A thumbs up would help. Or if you are in the US, and use Amazon, click on my link in the video description. It's listed as "shot on a Samsung, etc.." it takes you to Amazon. If you buy anything, not just the phone, I get a small commission. No extra cost to you. Maybe a dime on $10 spend, but it adds up. Thanks again

    as I'm Thai, I know it's exactly frustrating about a card in Bangkok Metro system. this topic was discussed since we have Airport rail link (around 10 years ago).

      It's still a great train. I just returned from Sydney. You can use a regular visa to buzz the train or bus. But in Melbourne you can't. It's the same as Bangkok. Still, it's better than sitting in traffic. Thanks for watching

    Excellent video. The explanation of how the MRT and BTS work was clear as was the advice about taxi use. I was speaking to cruise ship staff who work at the gangway where passengers return from shore trips who advised that it is common for daytrippers to forget the "no durian" rules aboard ship. Apparently by the time the crew member has found the offending fruit the damage is already done. Durian stench lingers in the semi enclosed gangway area for hours to the horror of those working there.

      @EagerExpat  10 місяців тому +2

      Yes, that Durian doesn't bother me too much. I walk by the stands everyday. I think when it sits around it's gets pretty bad. If it gets tossed into the trash and starts to rot, then you have a real problem. But, it's very common to see "No Durian" signs everywhere. Including hotels. Thanks for watching. I'm just a regular guy in Bangkok. But, maybe I can help a new person with the train.

    The bad thing about Bangkok transit system such as MRT,BTS OR SRT is the different operator that runs a train. They have their own card. Unlike in Japan like suica card. It make changing train to a different system is expensive. Sorry for my bad English. :)

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Рік тому

      Your English is perfect. I agree, one card would be easier. From what I understand, they build a new line and the profit is divided. I'd guess in Japan, Hong Kong, etc.. it's all one big system. In Bangkok, it's one company vs. another. They're are even problems with new lines that don't connect. Blue line owned by X Company and Yellow owned by Z company. They can't agree on who pays for a tunnel, etc.. So you have to walk 2 blocks from one train to another. Still, it's better than sitting in traffic

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  6 місяців тому +1

      They just built a new Yellow line. It's more a monorail than a subway. But I believe the first underground was 2004

    Any idea why bts and metro are completely separate entities? Or I believe so? It seems that metro and bts are very different

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Рік тому +2

      Just from rumor. One person said they run as private companies. They profit based on riders, etc.. So they keep the money separate. They also have government trains. Again, another pay system. It's not too bad and worth it to avoid Bangkok traffic
