I assume he went redstone for the extra protections you get from the passive and every ability is proccing it. He isn't very tanky with that build and redstone gives an extra hybrid item worth of protections. Also picked redstone because the enemy team has a lot of escape options (thor hammer/stun/ult, hachi dash/ult, fafnir jumps/stuns in both forms, chaac slow and axe tp, and maman with blink+dashing into people.
Picking axe would be worse here I believe since he can't stick to them that well if they have their escape options up. He could blink to close space but it has a 2 minute cd
