I don't think I have seen anyone ever make a gunnery video using multiple games and I was thinking to myself that this was a universal skill that translates to all so why not do it. LMK what you thought.
Deflection = guess work. I like to call it predictive shooting. As you say, often times you have put your target out of your sights and try to predict where the bandit is going and putting lead/bullets in his path to fly into.
When I was just a wee lad, I used to play the OG Il-2. I learned deflection all the way back then. Skip ahead 20 years where I did not play any WW2 flight sims, and I got back into Il-2 (Great Battles this time) after getting myself a VR headset and it's like riding a bike. I became an ace on my first flight, downing four fighters and a paratrooper carrier. Definitely surprised myself with that feat. But I guess once you learn the skills, they never go away.
Speaking of WT. You really should manually sweep wings fully forward in a mig23 there. It looses a lot of speed with swept wings, and doesn't loose energy at all with its wings forward. Auto sweep goes for the speed rather than maneuverability, so you better switch to manual wing sweep-pull your wings forward-go to auto sweep again. That way you'll basically basically have to press an auto/manual switch button to enter a "dogfight mode", and press it again to leave it. As long as you are slower than 900 kph of course
I'm playing "nuclear option" and the moment you thought the enemy plane did "something weird" as a maneuver, he's panicking. This is a good time to stick on his tail instead of trying to get an ahead of boresight. Because he is already out of speed and he will try to regain proper speed to re engage a combat effective speed. So stay on his tail instead of trying to get infront of him
My gunnery abilities are purely situational. I can be spraying shells at a bomber and missing every round, and then minutes later I can one tap a Bf-109 zoom climbing away in an Il-2 with the 37mm cannons mounted.
Good points, one of the harder initial learning curves and skill that degrades over time if you dont play. For me, short shots and adjusting,. If i havent played for a while, then i fire from too far away, force shots take bad angles etc. Get close like your name is hartmann
Just as a quick note, at the start when you were talking "looking up" it took me until almost half way in the video to realize you meant "up" as in "over the nose" and not like "further ahead." Maybe a note or phrasing could be changed to something more akin to "higher in the seat, or "under the nose."
for GB 109 is best to learn to aim, all guns in nose, gunsight raised to alow good sight on even hig angle attacks, and more ammo then other nous mounted guns types in game, then for wing mounted tempest is best , beats 51 because of guns are one hit and out
Good video sir. I'm one of those who neglects the rudder in combat. I have a lot of trouble being smooth with it, as the plane tends to waggle back and forth when i use it.
9:36 - I think he was putting that gear out trying to surrender. That or hydraulics failed but I've never seen that happen in Il-2 Great Battles. The damage model is good, but it doesn't seem to cover that.
It's in the game it's just kinda rare to see. I remember it being common in il2 cliffs of dover, had to land with the manual hand pump in my 109 once. I really need to get my sim gear back up and running this shit looks so fun.
Something I still struggle with is smoothly pulling the nose to or through a target, I don’t know if it’s an issue with my curves or if I need to practice more
Well with props I can get shots done pretty easily over the years... But I really struggle with leading jets. The speeds are much higher and the angles can't get into my head. I missed so many shots going under or over a target. Esp hard with guns like the DEFA or the Gsh (the one one the Mig-21) with really low bullet speed. Also the line type radar sights are not my favorite.
one thing that players usealy dont use is aim assist, you can turn it on in QM and practice with it, it shows you where you need to aim and with practice you get used to shape of enemy airplane at point you shoot, it helps a lot to beginers and when you transition from airplane to airplane, no shame to use it for practice, its like having trainer with you
great video, very helpfull. Iam new to IL-2 and iam struggling. Which VR can you guys recommend? iam playing only with joystick and i guess with VR its way easier and faster to check your 6 o'clock
Or you just put on a VR helmet and your gunnery is instantly better as you can actually do distance estimations and lean over your front better :) PS: ANd on the "tips" territory, your last MIG23 example with wing sweep on auto .... man, you would turn faster if you would put wings on that bird manually to minimum angle. In Mig23 the moment you are merged in majority of cases you should instinctivelly extend wings for better turn. Yes, you loose a lot of speed with them, but against F4 with better engine you are a single turn fighter anyway.
Honestly found it harder without practice in VR because the world feels gigantic compared to flat screen and I was far more familiar with the scale of things in 2D.
@ I haven’t tried it but I’ll give it a go. I’m more so referring to the sensitivity aspect and how much harder I feel like it is to get right compared to the plug and play in DCS and Il 2. Thanks for the info though.
You're doing a fantastic job! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). What's the best way to send them to Binance?

Isn't this a reupload?
Seems like a cool idea, I think videos like this are certainly nice to have but in the end good aim comes with practice over time more than anything.
What do you think about the release of f35?
@UnderTaker2OO3 video coming on that
The video got posted by accident but I took it down almost immediately after.

Having abandoned IL2 2 years ago for DCS and now seeing the IL-2 damage model again, i wish i would have never complained about it on 1C forums.
great video Enigma. Good tutorial. Hope to catch you on IL2 sometime. THE best PvP combat flightsim experience at the moment.
I actually played last weekend and had a ton of fun

I never had to think much were I need to aim and shot.
It always was more instinct than knowledge.
And visibility is a big advantage.
Brilliant, great stuff as ever mah friend!!
Great video. I am just reading the Robert L. Shaw book and you got me in the last part. I should really just fly more.

"someone who understands it conceptually but is unable to action it" I'm in this piece of advice and I don't like it
Play more brother

Thx, some good advice here

Try putting a curve on it to dampen it a bit
same here, and i have actual rudder pedals too.......

How to join your Discord sever? the Link in the video description is invalid
woah ligma with some good content
Don't worry, we will be back to long winded monotone discussions next week 🙏

I wonder what your rudder sensitivity is. I'm literally one of those players who barely uses it once I've taken off
I leave it on default. You need to use rudder
Or you just put on a VR helmet and your gunnery is instantly better as you can actually do distance estimations and lean over your front better :)

Practice! Practice! Practice! There is no easy way.
i think my gunnery issues stem from having to use a mouse, not really about anything else 😂
Man I dont know what it is but I can never get WT to feel correct or nearly good enough to play competitively in sim.
Are you using the dampner button it will make the plane not feel as weird when you pull

This makes me miss il2. Still don't have the bandwidth for wartinder.

I think Enigma is challenging me to reinstall DCS
do it, i know u can do it
Let’s go Irish ☘️
The DCS FW190 Cockpit looks worse than War Thunder... no comparison to IL2... why is it so?
None of these shots were that easy...
you miss 100% of the shots you dont take
