What a brilliant musician she was, she had everything in her little arsenal, but no one knew she was going to become the great Verdi interpreter of the 70s as well. I remember she sang the Trovatore Leonora about 8 years later, and the voice had become immense and powerful; she had the audience enthralled that night, a very satisfying performance, and I use the word satisfying more meaningfully than saying "the greatest" "diva" etc. If the public isn't satisfied with everything you've done, but you have sung well, you're just a house soprano, like so many at the Met today!
