I exhausted my interest in most social deduction games by playing way too many hours of The Resistance and One Night Ultimate Werewolf in college. Plus, the politics of the game (portraying the communists as insidious when there was rampant false accusations during that time that led to blacklisting and ruined careers/lives) are a bit of a turnoff for me. Maybe it’s not intended to be interpreted that way, but the dichotomous labels of “Patriot” and “Communist” suggest otherwise. Thanks for showcasing the game!
I find it extraordinarily curious that in the 100+ year history of a now annual billion dollar industry, the designers purposefully chose a theme regarding its darkest, worst moment while eliding the truth of what they're modeling (sound familiar?). That's not love of the subject to me; that's propaganda. It's using film as a means to tell a different story, one I'm not interested in playing to whatsoever.
It seems very similar to their previous game, Tortuga 1667. Social deduction where everyone has a specific action or actions but instead of patriot, communist, rising star it’s British, French, Dutch.
Nice Game! This is almost like Secret Hitler theme. I just thought Secret Hitler could have been a Facade Game Series: 📕BERLIN 1932 The Characters could have been real life German politicians during 1930's when Hitler was chosen as German Chancellor.
I really hope they tweak the editor so that you do not shuffle again and remove a random card. Not only is it more thematic that the editor “cut” or keep a portion of the film, but shuffling and drawing again slows down the game and potentially negates their choice. Other than this it looks like a solid social deduction game!
Thank you for a nice clear and concise preview. I love the graphic styling of the game and the Hollywood movie making theme and roles. Like others, I'm less enthralled with the patriot vs. communist aspect, particularly since "patriotism" is a term that has been so abused in the time period covered by the game up through the present day. However, I think I might be able to get behind Hollywood 1947 from a more "roleplaying-like" mindset for the era in which it takes place in. I find the game intriguing so I'm going to have to think about it further.
Awesome video explaining everything, I was debating on backing, the gameplay looks fun, the theme looks great, except for the "commie bad" trope which turns me off from the game. Side note: I never noticed the sword on the mantel, was it always there?? Or a new addition? Great video as always!
The Hollywood Communists and others, the accused and the destroyed were not the villains… McCarthy and his cadre were. Wouldn’t play this game if you paid me.
Love you guys, and your wonderful reviews, and I also love a great historical game, and great design and graphics, but I'm totally shocked that this game got made--as it twists the heroes and the villains around in a seemingly fun, yet utterly wrong-headed, revisionist take on this dark and shameful time in our country's history. McCarthy, and his committee were not patriots, and the many false accusations of the HUAC's paranoid witch hunt ruined the lives of many blacklisted screenwriters, directors, actors and producers. Given the rise of violent extremism in our country today, playing a game about a terrible time in our nation's history, when rights were trampled, and democracy was at risk, really is not my idea of fun.
Red Scare the board game? HARD pass. McCarthyism as a game concept makes me nauseous. Especially nowadays with similar cultural forces at play on the right.
@@chrishudson9525 Hi, Troll. January 6th was perpetrated by United States Republicans fomenting a mob of MAGA and MAGA-apologist insurrectionists based on a political Big Lie. Lives were lost protecting our Capitol from these criminals, and our nation's promise darkened. Furthermore, I have only heard violent, dehumanizing rhetoric from the political right these past 9 years, haranguing political opponents and citizens who hold a different ideology; Republicans use ludicrous and disgusting charges purposefully built on yet another Big Lie for political power, taking advantage of the mentally ill with the grotesquerie that is "-ANON". No, the right owns giving cover to dangerous power-mad politicians in MY lifetime. Back to the shadows with you and your ilk. Or the dung pile, if you prefer, MAGAt.

You two explain things so clearly, thank you! 😊
Very clear, yet concise, explanations. Thank you very much! :)
Thank you!
this a game joseph mccarthy would love to have made back then.
Lol 🚩😟

Ooh, as both a classic film fan and history dabbler, I love this theme! What a unique concept for a social deduction game!
Great teach as always!
Thank you Abby!

This looks great!
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT HOW HISTORICAL IS A BRISTOL REFERENCE?
Ah man, I LOVE this theme so much. But I’m not not a big fan of social deduction due to the player count often needed.
Either way, great work!
Sadly, I can't manage to get a lot of people around the table either, so I rarely play social deduction games. Still, I like this type of games.
Thank you!
Have you guys played clue?
Yes, is that your favorite game?
im getting a little bit of a citadels vibe
I can't remember exactly but this seems like a reskin of Secret Hitler.
Definitely a reskin of secret Hitler 🤷🏻♀️
except no one dies! 🙂 Aren't you trying to kill Hitler in Secret Hitler?

Nope, they were definitely the villains, despite what some dopey teacher told you.

If you're talking about the culture of witch hunts, that's way more prevalent in the modern left.
@@chrishudson9525 Sure, as evidenced by widespread "anti-woke" propaganda and "othering" marginalized communities. Oh wait...
