    Captain, it might have been good to point out to the non-boaters, that the reason you need one of these is that the drains shower drains are generally below the water line, thus the water has to be pumped up.
    Also, air conditioning condensate can be drained into a shower sump.

    That needed a good cleaning.--once it gets completely gunked up all your drains would appear to be clogged when in fact that system is the real clog point.Vinegar is a cheap remedy and will work miracles.Excellent advice…
    I guess Shag carpet is in style again? Somehow-I’m not a big fan of carpet on a boat.The moisture-humidity-sand just don’t lend itself to that type of flooring IMO.Lots of boats do have it though--just don’t seem right in boats or bathrooms and I’ve seen it in both…

    Hi Captain Chris! We recently stayed overnight and kept hearing a whining sound we'd never heard before. We finally determined it was this pump. It was full of dirty grimly water as was the compartment the box is housed in. Any advise what to do next?

      Clean it out with paper towels to get all the heavy gunk. Then pour white vinegar and cycle the float switch to make sure it’s not stuck. Good luck. 👍🏼

    Solid lines may be condensation drains for the A/C systems.

  • @fishelectronics

    Why does it have 3 (or probably 4?) lines? One for water in, another for water out. What are the rest for?

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  3 місяці тому +2

      The additional lines (hoses) may be for a sink drain or air conditioner condensate drain. Keep the bilges dry and reduce bilge odors.

    You are right. The bilge needs to be cleaned out. That debris is not going to be good for the bilge pumps.

    For some reason the shower pumps don't keep up with the showers on my boat . So I replaced them with bigger ones , still not great. Think I'm going to try different shower heads with lower flow

    • @skunkjobb
      @skunkjobb Рік тому +2

      That's strange. Even a small bilge pump should keep up with the flow from any shower head. Could it be a clogged hose or something that restricts the flow from the pump?

    I regularly pour hydrogen peroxide down my shower drain and put into the a/c drain pan. Any preference for white vinegar over the hp ?

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  Рік тому +2

      Vinegar is easier to use IMHO but you’ve obviously made peroxide work having used it successfully with regularity. Vinegar offers Less chance of bleaching something. Peroxide can be a little more effective against bacteria and viruses but has a shorter shelf life. And it’s irritating to your skin and soft tissue. Wear gloves with peroxide. Don’t ever mix peroxide and vinegar as it can be corrosive and make fumes that are dangerous to inhale.

    Good grief, what is this ? A grinder type pump? Rather noisy. A good morning to everyone 😊

    • @AskCaptainChris
      @AskCaptainChris  Рік тому +3

      The noise is because the pump is sucking air. If the floor was back in place it would act as a sound insulator and wouldn’t be as loud. Likely you may not even hear it. And good morning back atcha.

      I would adjust the off level for the float switch a few mm higher so the pump doesn't suck air.
