  • In this episode of Jazz Lab, host Noah Kellman sits down with modern jazz piano master Aaron Parks, a forward-thinking musician who first came to the public's attention during his time with trumpeter Terence Blanchard and has since released numerous albums under his own name contributing monumentally to the jazz idiom. In this episode, Aaron & Noah discuss two-handed solo piano techniques, modern improvisation concepts, advanced rhythm exercises, and more. You can also hear performances by Aaron solo, as well as the two playing duo.

All the cool stuff going on in the middle somewhere between the bass root notes and the melody on top. ❤❤❤❤ I always wished I could do that. Never achieved it.

I know man! It’s so good. What have you practiced for it?

@NoahKellman For a while I worked at using minimal voicing in my right hand, adding two notes (often with left thumb and fore finger) while then moving those left hand notes as passing tones or to change the harmony in varios ways, and sometimes adding counterpoint. It works. But it's so primitive compared to what Aaron does. What he does is mind blowing.

@@stuartdryer1352 it really is man, gorgeous. Have you tried any of the two-hand improvised counterpoint stuff I've talked about on the channel before? Might help!
