Thank you very much Captain Stefan for posting one of my favourite approaches here on your advent calendar. I love the way you talk about the approach process,: turn over the 2nd village, steeper turn, more height over the greenhouse is usual etc. Such a challenging approach done so expertly and clearly explained. Thank you Sir. Made my day! 😊
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! Yes, the weather was very nice! Usually the weather is good at Samos airport. It is just sometimes a little bit hazy.
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! I have no problem to understand the Greek controllers. But it happens once in a while that I have to talk to other controllers and it is difficult do understand them. The good thing is that we can always say "say again" or "please say again slowly". After a repetition of the message, we usually understand what they want.
Good morning Gentlemen that was a beautiful approach to Samos. On final approach to other airports speed is not really apparent but at Samos because of the low level it really is. A quick question having seen other landings at Samos approach is always from inland and not from the sea, is there a reason for this, wind direction for example? Thank you for another excellent video.
Thanks for watching, your good feedback and for your support of the channel as a member! Yes, speed control is important at Samos. We should not be too fast in the final turn. Good observation: Main runway is runway 09. This is due to the wind. But even with a light tailwind, I would prefer runway 09 because the final approach to runway 27 may be more turbulent as the approach to runway 09. Runway 27 also restricts the takeoff weight much more than runway 09. This is due to the mountains. So even if we would land on runway 27, we may not be able to takeoff from the same runway. Takeoffs on 09 and landings on 27 during the same time frame would reduce the possible amount of traffic to and from Samos.
I have flown to Preveza before. And I am sure that this will happen again in the future. But my duty schedule is always a surprise. So it may take a while until I am scheduled next.
Awesome flight as always guys!👍👍👍 However I must ask why weren’t you allowed to exit via the nearest taxiway but told to backtrack? Too many other planes on the taxiway?
Yes, you are right! This is a very small airport. It is very common at this airport that other traffic does not allow us to use the nearest runway turnoff and a backtrack is needed.
You are right! Samos is one of the more challenging airports. It requires an initial simulator training and afterwards regular flights to the airport to stay current and proficient.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos It's usual 5 from SAS arriving from Denmark, Sweden and Norway on Saturday morning. I can't remember if I have mentioned it before in a comment, but the "glasshouses" is an orchid nursery.

Great flight! 👍 Do you ever have difficulty understanding the controllers?

Can't be one of the easiest airports to land at considering your approach and angle

This was not on a Saturday. If it was there would have been a few SAS planes on the apron 😄
You are right! Sometimes it looks on Saturday mornings like that they arrive with their whole fleet at Samos airport.
