ENJOY !
What a pleasure to hear this 50 +yrs later , with Armando Peraza some would say the most powerful of all rhythm sections, maybe not the best players but the most powerful.... Armando and I always had a great time. I will always remember these times, and very grateful to have been given a chance to play with one of the worlds greatest bands Santana,Thank you Carlos Santana my Brother...Damm.
Listening to this I was excited to hear (what seems to be) a rare live performance of some tracks off of Song of the Wind and with Doug Rauch. I can imagine what memories this must bring back for you.
What a pleasure it is to read a post from a legend like you ! If you have any comments about your experiences with the late , great Doug Rauch, I'd love to her them
Did I hear traces of Lenny White's "Chicken Fried Steak" during "Look Up (To See What's Coming Down)? Oh Yeah...bassist Doug Rauch wrote both songs. Very Funkified!
true, and he also was a co-writer for Flame Sky and Promise of A Fisherman from Borboletta ......which he'd already left before the album came out.
I have been listening to Carlos Santana since junior high and fell in love with his music and after 50years I still love it
This is one of many masterpieces of his musical career my hero, when I was nine years old I was in music school, I heard jimmy Hinderx , I was blown away, my father had a business and I would go and help him one day one of his friend brought the Abraxas album wow I wanted it so bad my dad bought it for me I didn’t know it was his second one I play the hell out it over and over I want to learn to play his music, I would put my ears next to the speakers and close my eyes image we’re he was playing it, I was in music school for five years playing baby music I quite, then I thought myself how to play by listening to guitar, I learn faster, thank you Carlos for being my theacher, then Blackmore , black Sabith , John Mc Laughlin Al Dimula And Uli , Michael Shanker yngwie malmsteem Steve Vi so on Carlos has never stop being my hero God bless him and all the great guitarist, we need new guitar player like these guitar players new greats
You mean Jimmy Herpex?
This band created some of the highest music ever recorded. Caravanserai was the start of four years of Coltrane-esque magnificence. I have hours & hours of soundboard recordings from this era & never get tired of listening to them. Absolutely awesome.
Yeah? Share some of those soundboard, please
@@LordGreystoke Utorrent. Guitars 101. There you go. Oh, & a VPN for all torrenting.
The best of the best Latin rock music ever played in this planet
I wouldn't even call it Latin music, it's more "World Music".
Was my first concert ! Freddy King opened the show. Wow what a treat !
I was There Sitting Behind The Stage 20 ft Away.
The Caravanseri tour! So, a basic guitar, bass and drums with two keyboardists and three percussionists! Damn what a setup!
Amazing sound and feeling .The band jaming and soulfull and expression on the guitar.😊 carlos and the band are great. This is carlos just wailing.❤.
Toussaint L'Oveture makes my hair stand on end!!
Look up to See What's Coming Down...that's some nasty funk. What a great groove with Rauch laying down some serious funk bass. Incredible still today.
Did I hear traces of Lenny White's "Chicken Fried Steak" during "Look Up (To See What's Coming Down)? Oh Yeah...bassist Doug Rauch wrote both songs. Very Funkified!
The BEST Santana band ever....and this lineup got even better by the end of 1973. I wonder if they knew, on New Years Eve of 73/74 that this would be their last show together ? They went out in style into the wee hours of the morning on Jan 1st, 1974. This was at Winterland, and it was a rainy, cold night that got foggy by 2am.
There was never an equal to the sounds of Doug Rauch on bass and Richard Kermode on the Fender Rhodes.......and Leon Thomas on vocals and percussion. That night they turned Winterland into the Lord's cathedral. Incredible band and incredible night.
that show you remember does exist on audiotape... but this date listed for the show here: is this not 73 instead of 72?
since the date on this is October of 72, it would be one of the first shows Santana did with the new lineup. There wasn't much of a gap between this and the original lineup, meaning Gregg Rollie, Michael Carabello, David Brown, Neal Schon..(not an original) @@swineminus
thanks, you're right about the audio tape...and I do have a copy of that, although there is a lot edited out, unfortunately, mainly Carlos talking to the audience and a semi-bass solo by Doug. @@swineminus

There was a long gap.
I believe the last show the original Santana played was on July 4,1971 at the closing of the Fillmore West.
David Brown had to leave the band due to his Heroin addiction and replaced temporarily by Michael Shrieve's friend Tom Rutley.
The band then toured without Carlos because of a conflict between Carlos and Michael Carabello.
When Carlos rejoined the band in October,1972, Michael Carabello left the band and Santana finished the U S. Tour which lasted into December,1971.
This is some serious AFRICAN music they are playing. They are lighting up the sky with this performance!!!
The early seventies was a time of reinvention for many artists. It was a reflection of the times. I welcome all of it. IMHO this was the most interesting time in the 20th century.
Absolutely. Without a doubt.❤😊
😊The ultimate Fusion band and sound of the Revolutionary early 1970's.
Devadip Carlos Santana
John McLaughlin.❤
Jimi Hendrix*
* If he had lived. See, "Electric Gypsy"
This was my very first "Santana" show!!
Finally found it. Great job!! Thank you kindly. Freddie King played his own set that night as well. Bless Up.
El Mago de la Guitarra👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Que carajo estábamos escuchando en esa época... Que esta extraordinaria música no la escuchamos...
True glory of Santana lives forever.
Decent sound and the original band - YEAH !
whoa, i was there!!!! great sounds!!! drove down from bellingham, western!!
Jose "Chepito" Areas, Was the one who made Carlos Santana and the whole musica band famos,
*Chepito is the best percussionist ever,
With those Latin tropical musical beats.
he's very influential to the Santana sound, but he certainly wasn't the one who made Carlos famous...that would have been the angels that have been watching over him for his whole life :)
Was at this show. Saw them a year earlier and didn't know about the changes in the band. lots of new material I hadn't heard. Great as always
I was right there with you my brother! I worked at Paramount NW and lived two blocks away at the time.
Santana......Les Paul Deluxe with Bill Lawrence pickups through the original Mesa Boogie (Mark 1) before they were called Mark 1's. Best sound he ever got.
I thought it was his refinished 68' les paul with the bill lawrence pups. Yes, his best sound.
On the '72 tour of America in October,1972 during which this concert was recorded, I've seen pictures of Carlos strictly playing a Black Gibson SG like on the picture on this upload. Carlos continued playing it when he and the band flew to London, England for the '72 European Tour from New York, New York.
By the Summer of '73 and the "Lotus" recording, Carlos was playing a Sunburst Les Paul.
I don't understand why Carlos dropped "Eternal Caravan Of Reincarnation" and "Waves Within" from the set list!
I've always believed "Waves Within", "Song Of The Wind, All The Love Of The Universe" and "Every Step Of The Way" were the centerpieces of the "Caravanserai" album.
I personally believe they should have strictly played the whole "Caravanserai" album and omitted material and newer unrelated newer material.
When Carlos and the band arrived in New York, in late October, Carlos and girlfriend Deborah King became disciples of Sri Chinmoy. Before meeting with Chinmoy, Carlos had his hair cut very short which was a prerequisite to becoming a disciple.

@@raulmacias1311 Thanks, at the time I posted that, I was thinking he was playing the same Les Paul that he and Neal Schon bought matching pairs before they split. Since then, I've seen some pics too of Carlos playing the SG again just before the big hair cut. It seems there was a gap during his Les Paul days that he started playing the SG again for a little while.
Valiant and wise is the soul of Santana.
wow! thanks
Wow!
Santana Lives Forever!
Love this!!❤
predominan canciones que fueron compuestas en el año 1972... "Caravanserai" es una muestra de numerosas canciones de este concierto. Extraordinario!!!
Brasil Rio de Janeiro
Nice. Wish there was video of this.
have the original recording from the guy who taped this they start off w Every step of the way on all the 72 shows this one is diferent.
Damn, smoking right out of the box!!!
No doubt! Begins with my favorite Santana song, complete with Carlos throwing in the "Afro Blue" and "My Favorite Things" licks. By the way, Miles Davis said "Incident at Neshabur" was the greatest rock song ever recorded. And I agree!
Excelente carlos santana un maestro virtuoso de la guitarra
Siempre recuerdo la primera ves que toco en Argentina con su formacion original
Thanks for sharing
Glory rides with Santana for all eternity.
Wisdom of Maximus is the Wisdom of Santanta.
Righteousness and Glory Ride with Santana!!!!
Glory rides with Santana.
Yessss.....GREAT.....God Bless!
percussion section with armando, mingo lewis, an chepito
Instrumental 1, after Bambele and preceding Stone Flower, is "Welcome" by John Coltrane.
Yeah, I just caught that...I must have skipped over it the first time I listened to this. This was on the "Welcome" album and is called "Meditation". I've never heard them play it live before now.
Welcome or Flame Sky?
His best band, his best period.....his best playing........
Nope... Carlos always had good musicians around him after the breakup but he has never captured the sound & magic he had with the original line up. Big mistake when the band split up.
Glory.
Dude!
Trac number 7 is “Flame-Sky” from the Welcome album,,,
Or Welcome!
Maximus listened to Santana. The wise soul of Santana is timeless and was heard by Maximus, thus he was inspired to kill the centurions that were sent to execute Maximus in the forest. "Frost makes the blade stick."
SANTANA ; SEM COMENTÁRIOS.
Did Carlos ever solo better than this? I think he may have peaked around this time, as a player...
Absolutely agree. He improved exponentially between 1972 and 1974. He was so inspired. After this period, from 75 onwards, he still shreds, but I believe he stopped progressing.
@@flyinpigmusic331 I agree. When he went through another lineup change in 74, especially after Shrieve left, the energy, inspiration and chemistry of the band seemed to diminish. Those were my thoughts at the time having seen the band through the "before and after".
I got u on 8 track. Man!
No Neal Schon or Greg Rolie, hello Journey b4 Steve Perry
V nice audio on this.
Just before the Shrieve solo spot, the riff inserted into Castillo, which Santana solos through, is neither Mantra nor Angela. Does it have a name?
The thing at 01.06.20 I assume to be Earth - is it a cover, or written by someone in the Santana orbit?
Yes, "Instrumental 2" at 1:06:20 is "Earth." It is by Michel Colombier from the album Wings, but Santana only played a short part of it. Original version: ua-cam.com/video/4OSMNHSXE0w/v-deo.html
why was Carlos afraid to play Song of the Wind, its not on here
Yes that is a beautiful piece of music!
Carlos was never afraid to play anything. It is disappointing he didn’t continue with song of the wind here. There are very few live recordings of this song but never sound as good as the studio version with Neal. It’s one of my favorites too
@@krusty6246 I read that he was afraid to play it, saw him in Chicago in '72 and they almost played it but they segued into Everystep of the Way
@@krusty6246 It was surprising he never played it often. There is version on Viva Santana album. But otherwise hard to find. And yes, the studio version with Neal is perfection. Neal does half the solos when people think it is all Carlos. I read an interview with Neal where he talks about the track. Amazing how similar they could sound on Song of the Wind.
Beginning at about 59:49 ..could someone teach me that bass line please ? hahahaha...good luck
doug rauch on bass..unsung jazz rock hero....
Jim Dep. Sounds like a sly stonish bassline.Crazy
hey gringo
So why isn't Neil schon in this lineup? Wasn't he still with the band in 72?
Thanks.
Greg Rollie left during the making of Caravansarai while Schon stayed to complete the recording. He would leave & join Rollie once work on the album was done.
Neil was only on the recording session of caravanserai, he and Gregg left the band after the recording.
Greg left after recording 3 or 4 songs. Neil stayed until work was finished on the album.
not at this time, he had already left by than, this is the band that recorded Caravansari
Is this before they brokenup???
When Dave and his bass left. Not the same band
Glory.
