It’s an amazing feature hiding in plain sight. I think of all the hours and hours of my life I’ll never get back using Photoshop to deep etch products for catalogs, packaging and websites - over years and years - and it’s now done with a finger or right click… in seconds… it’s astonishing.
Btw Photoshop has this feature since many versions ago. When you select magic wand tool, the top bar will have an option to select subject which is practically the same image recognition stuff going on here. But yeah, Apple makes the process much more seamless.
So many hours cropping, paid apps/subscriptions, downloading multiple apps, buying apple products wit more space for copying files edits in case you mess up on 1. Definitely 1 useful feature.

Coming soon to all software everywhere. Davinci Resolve recently introduced this feature for colour grading moving images. It's an important milestone. I hope it comes to FCP soon
Apple will never change the function of the photo gallery, instead, when you move specific images to another folder they'll always be in the same "All photos" so basically when you wouldn't even know which photos you have already moved.
It’s an amazing feature….. IF you can get it to work. The cropping is exceptional, however, when I go to drop the photo say into a message, it never uploads and is the most annoying thing ever! I will sometime spend over 15 minutes just trying to get the photo to drop into the message. If you can, please make a video explains on where you need to maybe hold the subject photo in order to properly drop it.
This feature requires at least the A12 Bionic chip which is implemented in the iPhone XR, XS, etc. You can find this information on Apples iOS 16 webpage.
Thank you for showing this, I just learned about it today. I do like it because as a scrapbooking grandmother, and a pet lover, I am able to zero in on the children and the pets, and I can print them and fussy cut them out and use them as stickers.
It doesn’t work as a sticker in iMessage as far as I can tell. That’s what I was looking forward to most when they announced it and you can’t even use it that way
This is the coolest feature, However I just took Christmas pics and would like to copy the image of my kids and then paste it on to another picture. Not sure if this is possible. 😅
Cool feature. I’m tripping on how you get the image from photos to messages. Because I did not see you swipe up from the bottom to get to the message app. What kind of Voodoo is that.
Because you don't need to swipe up to switch between apps, you can just swipe to the side and if Messages is the most recent app used, it will be first. Otherwise, just swipe on until the app you want to paste it in appears. Personally I have been fine with copy and pasting without the dragging between apps, but I guess in some cases it might be useful.

Pixelmator was the best I’ve seen for this - blows away Photoshop - but this is miles better.

you can, at this time, do this in an ig story and then download and save to your photo album. extra step but it works.

In iMessage yes. In WhatsApp it doesnt work for me. WhatsApp adds a white background to the subject...

This feature is nice and all but what is the practical use of this other than for content creation and YT thumbnail creation haha
Send photos to friends and family’. If the subject is all that matters you can easily isolate the background.
If you are a graphic artist you will use and appreciate it.
