When everyone else disarmed and reduced, their military post WW1, it doesn't take supermen to defeat them. Interesting how at the .25 second mark, the infantry solder camouflaged the fresh dug dirt that lined his foxhole with pulled blades of grass so that the dirt does not contrast with the surrounding grass in the field. You don't see that often.

Although it was surprising to hear, I too would tend to think the mutinous aspect of the diary was an exaggeration, but if it's true like you said in part 1 that the Waffen SS were then known mostly for their uniforms and marches and were even under consideration of being dissolved, then the inferiority aspect you mention makes sense and this diary entry could very well reflect that. True. In the beginning, the Wehrmacht did not consider the Waffen SS to be high-quality soldiers who understood the martial craft. But in time, they proved themselves to be quite competent, if not superior in the art.

Why go through all the grind, preparation and boredom of mundane military tasks just to miss out on all the fun. The warrior wants to fight.
