The best version I could find of « Dust in a baggie » was in that same room. To me, the best of Billy String is just him and a guitar ! Nothing too fancy… This guy is incredible.
Yup. That's the first time i heard Billy. It came across my Facebook feed. Then started researching him online. Most recent guitar player that definitely caught my attention!
Billy alone is definitely legendary but when he combines forces with the boys he’s picking with these days it’s an unforgettable sound. Jarrod Walker (mandolin), Royal Masat (upright bass), and Billy Failing (banjo) are absolute bluegrass legends as well.
My dad is the only person other than Johnny Winter himself I've ever heard play this and he played it a lot my entire life right up until he died. Now I'm sitting here choking back tears missing him. Man, thank you for this.
They will be, when his friend gets married and mentions he made the videos when he was younger and then his wife decides they need a nicer house than they had at first.

This song was recorded in 1957 by Loy Clingman as well as by Sanford Clark. I remember them both. Loy’s version has always been my favorite. Curious? It can be found on UTube.
There's a lot to unpack here. This kid is incredibly talented, this is a kick-ass song written by the "Blind Balladeer" Leon Payne that has been done by multiple artists including Sanford Clark, Charlie Crockett, Johnny Winter, The Coasters, Loy Clingman, etc. The guy who wrote this song, Leone Payne, also wrote "Lost Highway" that was popularized by Hank Williams. And the songwriter, again Leon Payne, was mentioned by one of my personal favorite artists, Doug Sahm, as a songwriter that everyone should know on the "Return of Wayne Douglas" album. As I said previously, this young man is very talented and he's touching on some rarefied company.
