I come from a German background on my Mother's side, we grew up in Milwaukee and every so often we would travel to German Town, Wisc and to Otto's sausage store, homemade liverwurst, otto sausage which was a spreadable sausage eat it raw of fry it,brats and all the cheese, cheese curbs..the smell of that old time store was such a happy memory. To this day at age 61, I love love love liverwurst with butter on rye bread and a sharp or mild cheddar cheese. My grandma would make my grandpa lunch every day for his work, wrapped those sandwiches in wax paper with a string about it, and put in it a brown paper bag for his lunch. Thank you for sharing this with a cup of good hot coffee. I make a sour cream cucumber salad, so yummy in the summertime. The only thing I never liked was pickled herring and hot german potato salad.
You know what I love the most about this video? It's the simplicity, I love to see people enjoying themselves doing simple things like you do here! I absolutely loved it, thank you for making this video!
@the don not where I live and ironically most of the population claims German heritage and there's a "German" restaurant here but I would classify it as German-American.
I never thought of it as German, but this is basically one of my favorite midnight snacks-an open-faced sandwich made with a thick slice of hearty bread, cheese, a couple slices of sausage or cold chicken or beef from dinner; finally, some kind of pickle, maybe a little butter and definitely hot mustard. Can’t forget some hot beverage. I used to drink a lot of coffee all hours of the day, but these days it’s usually a strong black tea after midnight. Anyway, great video as always, Morpheus! Thank you.

Mostly "older" people would eat that kind of "heavy" breakfast in Germany! And not every day... Some people in Germany might prefer to eat this kind of food for supper, too! Younger people would normally eat cornflakes/ cereals or a bun/ roll with Nutella or jam or cheese or fruits or croissants or something sweet or nothing for breakfast...
We love you Morpheus! People on here arguing whether or not this is a German breakfast or not. I am not German, I do not know but what I do know is that you open your mind and heart to the idea of exploring other cultures and cuisines, and that in itself is an example of how every human being should be. Germany, in fact, is divided when it comes to breakfast. There's the faction that enjoys Käse and Wurst, and there's the faction that craves sweet stuff like Honig, Marmelade and Nutella. I definitely belong to the sweet faction, and I cannot understand how anyone could eat Wurst for breakfast, but then the other faction probably does not understand how someone could eat sweet stuff on Brötchen on a Saturday morning :D
I’m part German and have been taking German since kindergarten (now in 10th grade) but have never been to Germany nor had this. I’m vegetarian tho so - makes sense😂
German food is mostly based off of potatoes, meat, cheese, and bread. If you ever come to germany, many of the traditional "German" restaraunts will be located in guest houses, where you will see menus filled with a variety of sausages (nürnberger würst, käsewürst [cheese sausage] and a lot of others that typically come with mustard and sauerkraut. Leberkäse is important, it's kinda like if you had a meatloaf except made out of hotdog meat, it's typically eaten as a sandwich. Also hackfleish mit knödeln is good, tender beef with a kind of potato dumpling usually accompanied by sauce. Lunch is the most important meal of the day in Germany, so if you do visit, be sure to go mostly for the lunches, though the breakfasts are good too (a buffet style breakfast where you can get cereal, fruit, bread, spreadable sausage, cold cuts, cheese, and pastries)
We've got similar foods in Russia too (like liver sausage and that weird thing with bits of subproducts or beef tongue in jelly) and people usually eat their sandwiches in the open-face manner adding butter, veggies and cheese also. It's weird how so many things are very similar in cultures regardless of political and other bullsh@t. :-)))
