Isabela is the "Perfect Daughter" - and feels (up until this point) that she *has* to be perfect All The Time to meet her family's expectations. Always pretty. Always perfectly dressed. Always never a hair out of place...and it's kinda burning her out.
Just like how Luisa was being dragged down by the pressure of being able to carry everyone's load, Isa's being crushed under the weight of being the Golden Child and not getting to be *herself*

@@TheThought2be i think this movie deals with some somewhat heavy and realistic topics, unfortunately since it's a kids' movie, they have to use allegories to make it appealing and more accessible to kids, but if you thought the song was just about plants you're only scratching the surface and missing the point of isabela's whole character development
She's been having to be perfect and expected to be perfect for the family as the eldest, doing what's best for them. In doing so she never got the chance to make mistakes and figure out who she is outside her family expectations

All the family members get their own room designed specifically for their gift. So since she is the perfect flower making Isabella, her room will be filled with flowers and everything will be perfect and symmetrical

Its confusing because this song has alot of plot relevance
Her powers are plant growth and perfect grace( like she has never tripped in her life, her hair is like that when she gets up, etc.), up til this moment the plants she made were nothing but flowers. As this song and the moments before it indicate, this has not been great for her. Her sister, Mirabelle powerless, feels overshadowed by the “perfect child” and while not necessarily jealous of the power resents the praise and “do no wrong” way the world approaches her, and finds her sisters frustrations with her petty but is trying to connect because she sees the strife as part of a larger family problem (she’s right). But she has just realized Isabella feels trapped. Her powers make everybody EXPECT her to be perfect. So she sees in her sister somebody allowed to not be perfect, and resents her for the freedom, and takes it out on her if things are even a little imperfect. As mentioned here: she’s about to get married with a man in the village, and he’s everything you’d expect in a match for her. He’s strong, kind, handsome, the best catch around: but in truth she doesn’t want him (he’s the guy who the plant punches in the nose) But everybody’s expected her to be with the perfect match and she ended up going along with it, hoping it works out but it’s not and she’s been slowly hitting a boiling point till, at the beginning of the song, she for the first time creates something “not perfect” and it all comes spilling out and both sisters realize they aren’t each other’s problem.

She was tired of being perfect all the time because Abuela/grandmother expected the best out of her.
Encanto honestly surprised me to how much it unpacked phycological undertones for a kids movie

I'm sure this has been explained ad nauseum, but lemme also take a crack. Isabella is the "golden child". The oldest, the one the family, especially Abuela Alma, expects utter perfection from. Expected to only grow the most beautiful of flowers. Mirabel, as the youngest, has only ever seen in her what the others project, and thinks she's a "spoiled, entitled princess" (direct quote). The truth is that Isa doesn't want to be perfect, and feels constrained by her obligations like Luisa. So this is about her finally breaking free and creating the plants she wants, whether they're beautiful or not, and it is about Mirabel learning empathy for her oldest sister.

Oh, and if you want colour, watch Coco. It's beautiful. And honestly, so is the story. Coco and Encanto may now be my two favourite Disney movies, and I didn't think anything could knock Beauty And The Beast from its pedestal.

I feel like Isabela wasn't truly happy because she had to be perfect all the time and she had to uphold her roll as the golden child and be someone she isn't and in this particular part of the movie isa realized that she is more than just the pretty flowers she blooms and that she can bloom into the person she wants to be the person that was locked inside all through her life mirabel represents everyone of their personalities so she helped isa realize that she is more than just her gift. A life lesson that you can learn from this movie is just because you grow beautiful flowers that doesn't mean you have to be graceful and elegant all the time-Isabela just because you can carry mountains that doesn't mean you have to carry burdens and do things yourself-luisa just because you don't have a gift it doesn't mean you aren't special-mirabel even though you're different it doesn't mean that you can't love your family in a different way-bruno

ok this gotta be my favorite song from the movie, because i think this is really relatable to me personally. to me, the message here is that isabela is forced to strive towards perfection because that's how her family wants her to be, but really, she doesn't want to strive towards perfection and just be the way she is
Think of the stereotypical popular girl in school. she's got everything, looks, grades, hot boyfriend, rich parents, prom queen, cheer captain and everyone thinks she's the best because her life is perfect. But she is sick and tired of pretending to be "perfect" She wants to dress how she wants, not wear make up, not take an hour to make her hair perfect, not go to the college her parents chose, not hang out with people she doesn't like, and not date the boy everyone expects her to be with cuz, lets face it, she doesn't want to.
THAT is Isabella in a nutshell.
Encanto is a story of generational trauma. It affects every family member differently, but Isabela's deal is that she's felt the pressure of having to be absolutely perfect her entire life. This is her realizing that she finally wants to break free and be her true self, whether that true self is "perfect" or not!
When you think about it, Julieta had some pretty powerful kids. Luisa is basically a Demi god & Isabella could control plants ala poison Ivy mode

I think it’s like, her family needs her to be perfect, and if she’s not perfect than she has no worth, but this is her way of seeing that it’s okay to not be perfect and just be yourself, even if others don’t like it

What I like about Isabela’s “character development” in this song is that she started creating plants and flowers that are not perceived as perfect (roses), but are VERY MUCH associated with her culture. Succulents, cactii, carnivorous plants, plants that extracts a lot of colored pollen (i can imagine that scene being hell for allergic people). All of those plants are very much cultural and are very beautiful nonetheless.

Isabela is pictured as the “Golden Child” or the “Perfect Daughter” but she’s not happy with all the exceptions and is becoming stressed and unhappy. And !!SPOILERS!!
Breaks apart as Mirabel is yelling that none of them will be good enough. Isabela won’t ever be perfect enough, Luisa won’t ever be strong enough and that all this stress and pressure being put on the girls and the rest of the family is what’s breaking the magic and because their Abuela is causing this stress, Mirabel blames it on their Abuela. Therefore the house is destroyed and they all loose their gifts… that is until Mirabel and her family along with the village help rebuild Casita and they get their gifts again. Isabela has learned she can be messy and imperfect and Luisa learns she can actually cry sometimes and not be as strong as the expectations state.
Isabela is the oldest child of the third generation of Madrigal. She is THE big sister in a family of 10, 6 of which must see her as the role model, or at least that's how the family dynamic works in an extended family here in Latin America. Not to mention the eldest child is also the way others measure the value of the parents and by extension grandparents.
She isn't perfect, she practiced and practiced to look perfect and pretend being perfect, and in this song she just... Stops. She untangles the moment she voices the fact she doesn't want to marry but she'd do it because it's her duty as the eldest. And at that moment it all clicks into place for her, and we get the musical to get it a bit better. "What else can I do" in other words "I'm more than just the visible face of the family, what else can I be?"

this specific song in the movie "Encanto" shows that in the movie, Isabela is the "Perfect Golden Child" and everyone expects her to be graceful and was told to marry Mariano but she doesn't want to but only decides to for the family, she doesn't end up marrying him but instead has Dolores marry him because Dolores actually liked Mariano. Anyways back to this song, she realizes that she creates a cactus in the beginning and usually she makes flowers, (which is her power she was gifted due to the miracle) and she sees that she starts making exotic plants instead of graceful flowers. Where then the dye comes out from the exotic plants and has her dress be colored. This shows that it's okay to not always be perfect.
