  • Nigeria: Inflation at 30-Year High, Tinubu Says He Doesn’t Have a Magic Wand | Firstpost America
Nigeria's inflation kept climbing in March, reaching a 28-year high of 33.20%, driven by soaring food and energy costs despite central bank rate hikes aimed at halting its ascent. The latest data from the Nigerian government shows that From March 2023 to March 2024, Nigeria’s inflation increased by 11 per cent on a year-on-year basis. The Nigerian statistics office says that food and non-alcoholic beverages are the highest contributors to the soaring inflation. Meanwhile, millions of people are going hungry as they don’t have enough money to buy food with prices of food increasing by 8 to 10 per cent in some regions.

When will you people ever report any positive news about Nigeria and Africa in general? Every news about Africa is all about War, poverty, disease. Not a Good narrative there are good things about Africa to report on not just negativity but report positive things also.

What about all the Nigerian Prince's asking for my help to get their money out of the country?
    Maybe tax them?
Maybe stop 'politicians' and bureaucrats to defraud the country?

The President told Nigerians will see wonders. He said, not only suffer but put them hungry. Even their grandkids will suffer it. I quote Tinubu the president.

Why is Nigeria subsidizing from gov budget oil and gas …it’s already one of the largest producer in the world 🌎..gas should be very affordable ..also, why don’t the past and present gov falling to bring law and order in many part of the country…food products should be affordable to because Nigeria is in good geographic location..it has ports and, very border transportation with neighboring countries…also, why don’t the gov support agriculture foods …it’s crazy these African governments keep fking up …

The government has over the years destroyed all our refineries, so we export crude oil and import refined products which are more expensive, so we are net importers of hydrocarbons despite having a very large deposit in the country.

So we are prone to fluctuations in international prices, so the government has to subsidize it in other for us not to feel it, but that also has a problem, due to bad policies and collapse in our manufacturing capacity we are chronic importers of everything and government officials keep embezzling and moving out money from the economy into USD our currency keeps lossing it's value.
When it does petrol prices should naturally go up either it is up internationally or not so in a case the petrol subsidy was removed and naira lost value again the government would silently reintroduce subsidise to prevent a change in price, then the petroleum product importers created a scheme to embezzle more money from the government by claiming to import petrol they didn't just to receive the funds.
