- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba begin talks in Turkey in the first such high-level contact since Moscow invaded its neighbour. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu mediates the talks.

Thank you Turkey for stepping in here. Turkey doesn't have a pristine reputation with the west, but it is a NATO member, and it can use it's membership of the alliance as leverage over both sides if needs be. Turkey can also piggyback of this crisis to elevate it's position within NATO as a peacemaker, and promise to do more to protect and improve Turkish people's lives in the process.
Just the fact Putin was willing to send Lavrov, his main yes man and closest ally, to Turkey for these talks is a sign he might just want to talk now?. Even if the first couple of rounds of talks don't seem to make much progress, just the fact Lavrov and Kuleba are there is a good sign some progress is being made, even if it doesn't result in a ceasefire at this point. It means both sides trust Turkey enough to send their main deligates there is a good sign. These are two very important men in this game. Hopefully Turkey can work it's way into this without taking sides, because that is the only way talks can work.
And they say Türkiye doesn't do anything to help.
