This works for me when I started training my puppy, so hopefully it works on you. So when I getting ready to walk him, I take off his collar and have his leash and have treats with me. When he is calm I give a treat, then I put the collar on him when he stays calm. If your dog moves, don't put the collar on her, we don't want to reward that. And keep doing it until your dog doesn't react to you putting the collar on her and reward for not reacting. Then do the same thing with the leash. Now, this is the important part of starting off the walk. You get the the door, have your dog sit, and don't pay attention to her whining or barking, this will be difficult, and when she is quiet, give her a treat. Now slowly open the door, if she don't pay attention to you, close the door and reward her when she does pay attention to you. Do that until you have the door open. This is very time consuming, but it is worth it. When you grab the leash and the dog reacts drop the leash and wait until she calm down and reward that calmness. Do it until she is calm when you grab the leash. Its important for the very beginning of the walk to be calm, but I will stay sometimes you are going to feel overwhelmed but thats ok, you are learning as well. Now when you get out the door, its important for you to wait until your dog calms down and has her full attention on you, this will take awhile. What I like to do, is walk a little bit, then cut my dog from the path so he can focus on me and reward him when he is focused on me. I stop doing this when I notice that he's focused on me and then I start to walk he, But he take my pace, I dont take his, and I reward him whenever he looks at me, but I dont reward him when he starts bark or not listening to me, and I also reward him when he doesn't react to noise around him. If your dog doesn't pay attention to you, have her sit down and wait until she gives you her attention and reward her for looking at you. Make sure while doing this to have your dog stay on one side, if she keeps moving around, this is not going to be as affective. I also like to do is make my dog walk around me like in a circle then have him sit right next to my right side close to my feet and have him look at me and I reward him. And when you end the walk, make sure to have your dog sit down, reward that and open the door, do not have your dog walk in before you, if your dog moves from her place, go back make your dog sit again and try again. The goal is for your dog to wait to let inside your home. And I wish you good luck!

A little encouragement for everyone who has problems with their dogs: thanks to three "modern" dog trainers who only work with "gentle" training methods and who only rely on squeaky voices and treats, our dogs became more and more naughty, aggressive (to strangers and other dogs ) and no longer obeyed.
For 1 year we have had a trainer who trains with the old methods. It was incredibly hard at the beginning - for the dogs and for us. They also train highly aggressive dogs that used to be a major threat to the community, and many of these are now superbly trained and socialized. But it is necessary that the dog owners really engage in the training.
But we finally have well behaved, reliable dogs!
And no, they are not scared or traumatized, on the contrary: they are finally relaxed because they have finally handed over the leadership to us!
And it strikes us every day how many dog owners don't have their dogs under control like we used to.

I did this with one of my dogs and it absolutely did not work. No amount of corrections would stop her and she became aggressive and due to lack of my own resources and frustration, my friend who specializes in tough cases adopted her and she has been thriving ever since. The biggest difference was not having enough space for her, which he did. So she had free reign to get her energy out in a fenced-in field. I walked her all the time, but she was just not happy in an apartment. She was a mix of multiple breeds, so there was no way to be evaluating that as a possible issue until she was just too big and rambunctious. (I grew up with dogs, never had a problem training them, etc, but did always have full-bred dogs which is usually easier to understand by a precedent set by the breed)

Im not so sure about this. I feel like that sharp pulling might hurt their throats. The reason why dogs usually bark is because they're attention and focus is directed at something else like a squirrel for example. I've found the best thing to do then is to get the dogs focus back on you by making them use the working part of their brain and asking then to follow simple commands. Overtime if your consistent and doing it right they will learn to stop whatever they're doing and focus on you the moment you tell them to. Though every dog is different and you should always ask a professional trainer first.

But then what if your dog is so worked up she bites you when you do that?

Do you ever get anyone with any listening skills that actually snaps like you do when they see how you do it?

2nd vid of this woman. Some people shouldn't own dogs. Dude, give up. its not getting through to her. I've seen this in people SO much. You explain till you're blue in the face, and they nod their head and say in that DUMB voice "duh, OK" then they proceed to do exactly the wrong thing. Can we just have a moment of self awareness as a species and realize too many of us have cognition issues?

Training the dog is easy. Teaching the owner, not so much.

You never do this to a puppy! When your dog is old enough to bark you capture the behavior and give it a command and then you teach quiet on command positive reinforcement no correction/punishment needed

What do I do when she is barking at me in the house

Help. I tried doing a very similar training method but it doesn't work. When my Chihuahua is barking on the leash she doesn't care eif I put treats in her face, she doesn't care if I say leave it, she doesn't care if she's choking on the leash and would do anything to continue barking. Help

Do you use a micro prong?

@@camluver414 no and it wouldn't work because my dog doesn't care if she's showing really bad she wants to pull me inside because she hates walks
