Wenn wir nur unser Budget von 0,5% des BIP auf 2% erhöhen würden, würden wir schnell mal auf Platz 2/3 des Militärs landen und es würde der Wirtschaft kaum schaden zufügen, denn wir wären immer noch auf Platz 4 mit großem Abstand zu Platt 5.

Yes and No. Since 1945 it was not used anymore and not handed out. In the early 1950's, it was reinvented as "Symbol" for the Bundeswehr. As you see it on Vehicles and Planes for example, but not as Medal. There were 4 different Versions of the Iron Cross, Großkreuz, Ritterkreuz, First and Second Class Iron Cross. They all looked quite similiar. in 2007/2008 it was actually reinvented as Medal, since it became a Symbol of Hope in certain Regions and had positive Effect on people, unlike the "old version". There has been a discussion about the retrinoduction of the Iron Cross for bravery in combat. But finaly the German Parliament decided to use the the usual combat medals. May be with a fully conservative rule Parliament in 2017 this could change again. Die neuen Geräte sind sehr sensibel, bei Schaden muss oftmals das ganze Modul gewechselt werden, wie zum Beispiel eine Passiv-Panzerplatte. Wir sind gut ausgestattet, aber bekommen nicht das Geld zur Wartung der Ausrüstung. Auf politischer Ebene finde ich, das die Bundeswehr unabhängiger sein soll. Ich muss leider sagen, das ein Einmarsch in den Irak nicht mehr zu verhindern ist und da sollten wir uns nicht einfach raushalten, aber so das wir als unabhängige Streitmacht agieren und nicht als "bimbo" der USA.
I am not saying this just because I am British, but other than a few emblems and badges, you can not distinguish the Germany military from the British military. The colour of the uniforms, how the soldiers stand, walk and march are identical to the British army, which is not surprising. Thank god you guys seem to have modelled us rather than the Americans. My great-great-great- grandfather and his son fought in the Franco-Prussian war, and I had several cousins who laid their lives down for Germany in WW1 and WW2. They fought in the finest army in Europe and I have no shame that they did, nor should anyone else of German descent. The German army was the real deal!

+thedark056rh Nein, es schadet sicherlich keinem in seiner Zukunft, wenn er 12 Monate lang der Bundeswehr gedient hat, dazu noch wenn es pflicht wäre. Warum sollte es dann einem die Zukunft verbauen? Wer bleiben will, verlängert und verpflichtet sich. Wer nicht, der geht nach 12 Monaten. Die Bundeswehr wäre etwas gutes für alle verweichtlichen Jungs da draußen. Außerdem ist eine große und starke Armee wichtig, für unsere Bürger wie auch für das Ansehen unseres Landes.

Erstens, weil es Friedenszeiten sind und man ebendrum KEIN "Ansehen" durch Militär erhält und zweitens damit andere Sektoren der Wirtschaft besser durch die "Jungen" abgedeckt werden können (z.B. Ärzte-/Lehrermangl). Ich verabscheue es wirklich, dass du die Jugend "verweichlicht" nennst, nur weil sie sich nicht sinnlos 1 Jahr in der Armee befindet. Grade heutzutage sinnen die Menschen besonders auf Frieden, da macht sowas einfach null Sinn.

Und die Bundeswehr ist ein toller Arbeitgeber, auch dort kann man "normale" Berufe ausüben, wie Arzt, KFZ-Mechatroniker, Ingenieur usw.! Keinem schadet die Grundausbildung der Bundeswehr, und damit hat man auch für den Notfall mehr Reservisten! Dieses eine Jahr schadet sicher nicht unserer Wirtschaft, früher hat es auch funktioniert! Und außerdem erhält man sehr viel Ansehen und Respekt wenn man ein großes und modernes Militär besitzt. Siehe USA, China, Russland! Diese Länder sind nicht nur Weltmächte weil sie wirtschaftlich etwas taugen, sondern das Militär spielt da eine große Rolle. Und Soldaten verdienen meiner Meinung nach am meisten Respekt, da sie für Frieden und ihr Land kämpfen! Und ja, ein großteil ist verweichtlicht, und das weiß ich weil ich es selber mitbekomme, ich bin nämlich auch erst 17 Jahre alt.

Yes and No.
Since 1945 it was not used anymore and not handed out. In the early 1950's, it was reinvented as "Symbol" for the Bundeswehr. As you see it on Vehicles and Planes for example, but not as Medal.
There were 4 different Versions of the Iron Cross, Großkreuz, Ritterkreuz, First and Second Class Iron Cross. They all looked quite similiar.
in 2007/2008 it was actually reinvented as Medal, since it became a Symbol of Hope in certain Regions and had positive Effect on people, unlike the "old version". It is now called "Ehrenkreuz Der Bundeswehr für Tapferkeit" ( Cross of Honour for Valour ) and looks a bit different, but is in "Memory" of the Iron Cross.

Edit: Btw.. one of the Medals, which can be awarded Posthum and happend 2 Times so far, to 2 Soldiers ( Paratrooper ) who died during their Mission in 2010.
There has been a discussion about the retrinoduction of the Iron Cross for bravery in combat. But finaly the German Parliament decided to use the the usual combat medals.
May be with a fully conservative rule Parliament in 2017 this could change again. But with a socialist dominated Parliament there would be also no more a german Army as they rate them mostly as unnecessary.

Anyway yes we are sleeping giants, Italy in the last 10 years became a modern power with the know how to make everything on our own and with less budget than anyone else, today we are 3rd in Europe as a military power and with France and Uk the only one with projection capabilities. Germany still has a good army but his armed forces suffers from budget cuts, but they have the best economy in Europe and would fill the gap. Japan has defence forces who can't go in war but they are powerful too, maybe not as Italy and probably Germany but they also have a good economy although their big debt and a good war industry.

Das Ding ist, dass das Verteidigungsministerium nicht checkt das ein Schaden an Polymerverkleidungen von Helikoptern und Flugzeugen der neusten Generation, sich nicht so leicht reparieren lassen wie normaler Stahl oder Blech. Deswegen fliegen unsere Tornados und CH47 auch wunderbar! Sie sind nicht zuverlässiger aber einfach zu reparieren und vorallem auch billig zu reparieren. Die neuen Geräte sind sehr sensibel, bei Schaden muss oftmals das ganze Modul gewechselt werden, wie zum Beispiel eine Passiv-Panzerplatte. Wir sind gut ausgestattet, aber bekommen nicht das Geld zur Wartung der Ausrüstung. Auf politischer Ebene finde ich, das die Bundeswehr unabhängiger sein soll. Ich muss leider sagen, das ein Einmarsch in den Irak nicht mehr zu verhindern ist und da sollten wir uns nicht einfach raushalten, aber so das wir als unabhängige Streitmacht agieren und nicht als "bimbo" der USA.

I am not saying this just because I am British, but other than a few emblems and badges, you can not distinguish the Germany military from the British military. The colour of the uniforms, how the soldiers stand, walk and march are identical to the British army, which is not surprising. Thank god you guys seem to have modelled us rather than the Americans. Those decals on the Eurofighters look stunning. We seem to be natural allies rather than enemies. I sincerely hope it stays that way. Great video, hope their are more to come :)
