It always makes sense to wet the beard thoroughly whith hot water to raise the hairs. Shave foam does not work as well as a cream either. And try to shave down with the grain, then shave up with a little additional moisture. The hairs will pull less and you'll have minimal nicks and cuts. And a damn close shave whether you use the two blade or four blade.
Just got my 2nd month's worth of Humble Twins last week. I like em at .60 cents a pop. Was a Mach 3 user for years, but got tired of the cost. Nice review.
I also shaved about a day earlier than I usually would. I actually expected the bumps and cuts with the new blade and early shave. It's a good blade and saves me massive money lol.
Thanks for this video! It sure helped me with research for my partner. You are the only youtuber I've seen with the Humble Twin razor! Thanks a bundle!
I have problems shaving against the grain sometimes . I bought DSC shave butter and this is the best shave cream I have ever tried . I have the 6 blade razor and I believe mine came with a sample . 6oz is $8 and it last me several months. This may be something you want to consider.
i was thinking the same thing but the cheaper one with shipping comes to 3/month and they do offer every two months as well. i don't shave very often either so it was cool to find out you get 5 cartridges(with the humble twin option) for only $3/2 months.
Gentlemen, to minimize shaving nicks and cuts:If you have a very angular face with taut skin, then by all means, use those 5 bladed razors with long strokes. However, if u have a round face like myself (and the gent in this video) use 2-blades with short, frequent strokes, changing blade angle to follow curved contours of a rounded face. Nicks happen when you use strokes that are too long, or make contact with face at awkward angles. Follow facial contours closely, and don't drag the blade. :-)
you can start with a cheaper plan then upgrade the next month. When you upgrade they send you the new handle and you keep the old one. All the blades work with all the handles so you'd be set. I did it and now my wife and I both share my subscription.
good video, ur the only one with the cheaper twin blade youtube review. I would def subscribe to their service right now, but i hate that they dont include shipping with the twin blade and do include it with the more expensive 4 blade model, great upselling strategy on their part. Id get it if i could get 2 handles so 2 people could shave with one subscription, i dont shave every day, you know.
i've used both gillette and dsc. i use the four blade razor rn and i have to say, you definitely get a better shave with gillette. There are times when my neck especially gets irritated from shaving with dsc even with a sh*t ton of shaving cream. But it is definitely worth the money you pay.
Btw, shaving against the grain is a sure fire way to get ingrown hairs. You're "supposed" to shave with the grain but it doesn't matter what blade or brand I use as I'm never able to shave those hairs that simply "lay down". So I shave against the grain myself and just deal with the ingrowns. Also, about those nicks and cuts, sensitive skin/coarse hair is the usual suspect. Maybe try the suggestion PrideofWhitey made about the shower or use a hot wet hand towel. Lay it over you face for a couple of minutes and let the pores on your skin "open up" and soften the hair. Old barbers trick for the old straight razors they used back in the day.
a package of bics last me over a year and they only cost $1. To avoid razor burn, hold the blades lightly on your face, letting the weight of the razor do all the work. I never get burn and I have to shave every day. Been shaving over 35 years.
Try some balm or lotion to help with the cutting. It happens to me if my skin is dehydrated. Good review. I might try them out but I shave my head also so I'm wondering how fast they will dull.
You know, with the newer 5, 6, 7 blade, etc. cartridges out there there's no room to precision cut lines. My Fusion ProGlide Power has that single blade feature, when you flip it around, for precision shaving. But replacement cartridges are about $20+ for a 3 pack! I may just simply go back to the old fashioned single blade my pops used to use.
again just to explain to everyone, this has never happened since the first shave. I shaved a bit premature for the video and even a Fusion blade would have had similar results. i use this blade to shave my arms during the summer (tattoos) so im sure it would probably work just fine on your head. Using this blade with the easy shave butter is A LOT nicer than with a canned shaving cream.
@hybrid32494 nor do i. I switched to one delivery every 2 months so i pay $3 every two months for five blades. i actually still have two blades left over from my last delivery and i just got a new delivery yeaterday. also i believe i remeber reading that the humble twin blade will fit Gillete Sensor Excel handles, cant remember for sure though.
i know i am shaving against the grain. i always do WTG & ATG to get a smooth shave. Again, i dont know how many times i can stress this: This only happened once, never again. I am a member at B&B and at SRP, i like them both on facebook and i am usually a straight razor shaver, and i also have a 1940s Gillette Tech i use quite often as well. I keep the humble twin in my gym bag for when i have to shower and shave at the gym
Hey there, you might want to take a look into the "badger&blade" forums(or others). There you can find detailed explanations at how to shave in a way to completly avoid these irritations. You will thank yourself in the long run, believe me.
because i rarely have time to straight razor shave at home anymore. ill have to do a follow up to this where i show you that my face makes it through unscathed.
If even a Fusion does *that* to your neck, then something about your technique definitely needs work. You might consider avoiding shaving against the grain (though with proper preparation you *might* get away with it), and you might want to try shaving with cold water to avoid cuts and irritation (after first washing your face with soap or a facial scrub to soften up the beard).
Great Video! Skin irritation, you might want to try a pre-wash, but as you noted, it doesn't matter what blade, it might just be the blade's a bit too sharp for your skin, and it'll dull down to a comfortable level. I just got 14 cartridges for the Fusion, $50 at Costco :-( It should last the year, average is 5 weeks per blade based upon a few articles I read. But after that I'm interested in the regular single blade from DSC.
Dammmm man...good video...if those razors gave you cuts like that..I'm gonna pass on those razors...Bic razors does that to my face.gillete 2 blade never gives me cuts or razor bumps
For $3 that's pretty good. But I'm getting these to clean my face ,I use electronic razor to shave my face and what is left over this razor will clean it up.
Awesome review man, and epic beard I must say :P If I needed to shave I would damn sure click your link :D Will think about it if I decide to start shaving my wannabe beard and stache off :P
I think you got so many cuts becouse you pass many times the blades on your neck, maybe you can try to pass it one time slowly each pass. Sorry about my english I am from Colombia
Holy cow man your neck is demolished... Try fewer passes and a lighter touch, there is no need to shave so aggressively. Also just shave in one direction, it reduces ingrown hairs.
If you want a truly great shave, do away with all those multi-blade cartridge razors altogether and switch to double edge safety razors. The blades are MUCH sharper and cheaper than those dull and overpriced multi-blade cartridges.
fusion sucks - every generation is worse. Sensor was the best: Cutting hair. All newer crap just tear hair and is painfull for me, hair is being more thorny than before, and I can't shave so deep as before. fusion tends to wear out very quickly.
I actually found old stock of Excel with 10 spare blades in one store a weekago: IT does really hurt less for longer hair than Fusion and it cleans easier under tap water. Fusion have maybe an edge for a half day old hair. But Excel really excels in a faster shave too, than Fusion.
It always makes sense to wet the beard thoroughly whith hot water to raise the hairs. Shave foam does not work as well as a cream either. And try to shave down with the grain, then shave up with a little additional moisture. The hairs will pull less and you'll have minimal nicks and cuts. Very similar, I haven't had the nick/razor burn issue since this first time, I have no complaints about these blades.
Thanks for this video! It sure helped me with research for my partner. You are the only youtuber I've seen with the Humble Twin razor! Thanks a bundle!
You are brilliant! I haven't been able to find any reviews on The Humble Twin, and you've just sold me it, gonna go buy it now.
Cheers!
Thanks for the update, I was a little worried. Good to hear they're working well.
Thank you for this review. I just bought the Humble Twin today.

thanks man, i get Billy Mays a lot. He and Al Borland are always standby Halloween costumes!
Only man in the world who starts a shave against the grain THEN with it...
That or the hair on his neck, like mine, grows up towards the chin. Then he IS shaving with the grain first.

your "wife's book" yeah right...
haha that's exactly what i thought

It will probably work decently for head shaving but i'd recommend the head blade which is designed for head shaving and glides nicely.
a package of bics last me over a year and they only cost $1. To avoid razor burn, hold the blades lightly on your face, letting the weight of the razor do all the work. I never get burn and I have to shave every day. Been shaving over 35 years.
I can't wait to try the shave butter. I will be shaving in a few days and I will be making a video review of that as well!

I'm using Humble Twin. They are ___ great! 3$ a month for humble twin.
Good Review. Thanks for sharing
great review
This was very helpful. Thanks, dude!

You're pretty cool. I liked your video man.
Sorry you had the bumps and cuts...I have not had that problem with mine. Maybe I have tough skin!

I've only ever shaved against the grain or it wont cut my hair. If I go down it just glides over the hair. Doesn't matter what brand or blade I use.
Wife's book suuuure.... :)
Damn that's alot of cuts bro. that's why I don't shave against the grain lol
I clicked. Thanks for the info presented in a normal way.
LOL His wife reads 50 Shades while on the crapper.
...so what?
plot twist: it's him who's reading it.
I think you got so many cuts becouse you pass many times the blades on your neck, maybe you can try to pass it one time slowly each pass. Sorry about my english I am from Colombia
Woah bahah. I was expecting a much deeper voice. No offense intended.
Close the water while shaving please
Holy cow man your neck is demolished... Try fewer passes and a lighter touch, there is no need to shave so aggressively. Also just shave in one direction, it reduces ingrown hairs.
Eh, i'll stick to my Gillette Sensor.
doesn't help that you went over the same spots several times, in several directions. that is a big no-no to most shaving experts....
Shaving experts huh? Paid occupation?
James Taylor Ha. That made me laugh.😸
James Taylor I know right? But yea, there are guys who's full-time gig is to shave men's faces, especially with a straight razor
First time I ever watched another man shave. You shouldn't shave against the grain!
André Emery the old myth man, people always so go against, they been doing it wrong!!
why?… just go with wet shaving… even cheaper, and way more eco friendly
If you want a truly great shave, do away with all those multi-blade cartridge razors altogether and switch to double edge safety razors. The blades are MUCH sharper and cheaper than those dull and overpriced multi-blade cartridges.
u r shaving against the grain? that will lead to bumps and nicks more often anyway.
Doller tree lol
let your wife know youre adorable.
wow, seems your skin isn't the only thing sensitive...lol
lol
my box just arrived. it has shaved hairs in it. are these things used? im disgusted and want my money back
Lolololol
@Mike Barooshian I too switched to Harry's, good decision.
Wow, you have very sensitive skin!
Twin blades suck.

Trac II is the best followed by original sensor
