As a former Renault mechanic, and following in depth with a lot of behind-the-scenes information regarding the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi, merger, and what caused its failure, if anybody is going to merge with Nissan Mitsubishi, it should be another Japanese company. Since Toyota Subaru Suzuki are all Fuji heavy industry. It’s unlikely that they would be interested so that only leaves Honda.
Honda had history rebranding from Isuzu and Land Rover models. They always wanna be a part of truck/body on frame world. I think this might give Honda a chance, since Nissan and Mitsubishi have solid body on frame platforms to based on.
I'm excited and hopeful. Nissan trucks are still good because they have more "Nissan" in them than the cars. I really hope that Honda helps Nissan get back to where they used to be. Hopefully Mitsubishi can get back to making some unique and cool vehicles. Happy New Year, Jon!
I believe the Honda Passport has the "more robust" version of their 10 speed that they put in the 3.0 Twin Turbo MDX Spec A. Just like the outgoing generation, they give the pilot the least and make the Ridgeline more robust. The Passport is in the middle.
like the new passport its shorter wheel base and 6' cargo sleeping area . no need for roof top tent , if it got rid of the luxury car bits ,sunroof , just needs that low range , as for ridge line need s a smaller king cab and 6' box . same issue with mid size pu 5' box or 6 ' wheel base is to long 145" same issue with the jeep gladiator 138" wb 5 ' box , me idea is 109" -112" wb and 190" long perfect trail rig
I personally think this merge is epic! We’ll see more interesting vehicles from all. This should make reliability much better, at least for Nissan. . I’m super excited! This is the beginning, so hang on tight, things aren’t going to happen overnight! Hopefully Honda can help with Nissan cvts or just replaced with traditional transmission. I think Honda will take Armada platform for body on frame. That would help Honda “off-road” category, which would dramatically boost sells for Honda and sells for Nissan Armada platform. I leased a EV Nissan ariya. Miss my Honda pilot. Just happy it’s a LEASE! 😂
The original Passport was an Isuzu Rodeo. With that said the new Patrol based Armada looks awesome and one of my possible new vehicle purchase in the next few years. But Mitsubishi is the real jewel. Mitsu has done it all. I just hope this merger won’t kill the Z or the Skyline GTR or the comeback of the Mitsu Evo.
Evo 11? I feel like all our favorite fan favorite cars will make a come back with electric drive trains. Honda / Nissan / Mitsubishi really need to get their butts in gear to put up a fight in this upcoming gas / fuel celled powered electric drive train war. China is dominating the world market, but here in America, Kia/Hyundai should almost be done with their Electric fuel cell cars, Stellantis is gearing up with the gas recharging "Ram Charger", I'm sure others will soon follow. Where will Honda and Nissan be though? BTW, the Ram Charger will have a 690 mile range, that's exciting stuff! Give me a 2030 Honda Patrol Pro4x Trailsport Quad E-drive please! With Fuel Cell Rotopax and 4000 mile range, haha!
Wow I really like how that new Honda Passport looked. I’ll look more into it. When it comes to these off-road vehicles, what I don’t want to see is electrification. I feel adding an electric motor will just add to the headache of adding something that can break. Toyota totally disappointed with all their trucks being hybrid, well except for the GX550. Hopefully they’re learning their lesson with their low sales. Great video as always Jondy!!
Thanks Leo! Please tell the Fam that we wish you all a Merry Christmas! So, Ram will be the first to offer their "Ram Charger". It will have the 3.6V6 Pentastar that will have the sole purpose of recharging the battery at 130 KW, it does nothing else, so it's not a hybrid. You either plug the truck in, or run gasoline to recharge. I think Honda, being a leader in portable gas generators should lead the way with this technology.
I think you’re mistaken when you say the LiFePo batteries are 6-10k charges. At that time the battery capacity is approximately 80%. So it’s not just 10 years and then it’s toast. The battery will just have less capacity. Anyway, you’re probably right in that most people don’t keep cars 10 years anyway
after 8 - 10 years, I believe they do go kaput. I don't have any experience with LiFEPO4 (because I haven't had a device long enough), but my overly used 500 cycle lithium ion devices no longer work.
Worried Nissan and Mitsubishi is going to bring down Honda, but maybe this could work in synergies. The BOF trucks and SUVs are already in synergy with Nissan/Mitsubishi globally, like the all new Mitsubishi Triton/Nissan Navarro trucks. Wouldn't mind a Honda version. As for EVs, the question for me is how much is my 10 year old EV worth after 10 years? If I bought a 4Runner instead, it would be worth so much more, deprecation is a big concern with EV vehicles especially when you want to leverage that to a new vehicle every 5-10 years.
I don't know Jon. Been through a lot of mergers (3 different during my tenure) with Chrysler over the years. I'm no longer there but with a family owned automaker. Chrysler was great before mergers started... then I Hated it. It RARELY is a positive for an automaker and the public. It's all about saving money... but with the management suffles and continual direction changes and fighting over who's product is "more efficient" (not in durability, but in $$$)... It's just not good. I actually very disappointed to hear the merger potential. Honda's durability isn't what it once was... but it's still better than many now. With our luck, everything will have Nissan CVT's! LOL. I know they are abandoning the CVT thing (thank Goodness).
I really hope that's not the case! I'm just glad that Honda always had enough sense to keep the CVT out of larger vehicles like the Pilot/Passport/Ridgeline. Nissan was foolish to put it in the Pathfinder.
I should have said, "Nissan cars are value focused" 😇 I'm really looking forward to my new Honda Patrol Pro4x Trailsport. Not anytime soon, I want to enjoy not having a car payment for many more years first.
I love Honda and Nissan but I have owned only one Honda. A Honda Civic. I have owned almost every model Nissan made. Why? Styling. Honda can gain better styling with Nissan. And yes, Honda badly needs a serious truck and truck based suv. I hope Nissan does not get more influenced by Honda and get rid of their trucks. We badly need a truck based Xterra and a truck based Passport. Honda needs to grow some testicles...ijs.
@@SubUrbanNinja-EDC Honda simply didn’t have the manufacturing power to make body on frame 4WD vehicles. They won’t get rid of Nissans greatest strength, and under Hondas strong leadership, push them to modernize their truck fleet. The new Armada is modernized for 2025. The pro-4x looks so damn sweet! But the frontier just has updated tech and still on a leaf spring setup.
Oh, heck yes! Perhaps put the midsized SUVs on the same platform. Have the Passport and Xterra on the same platform, but keep the Honda IFS/IRS and give the Xterra a Solid rear axle!
This is what I think... They need to get Renault completely, and I mean COMPLETELY out of the picture. They need to let Honda do all the smaller vehicles and let Nissan body on frame vehicles along with sports cars. Mitsubishi is a lost cause IMO... The Frontier will probably eliminate the Ridgeline but honestly I wouldn't buy one. I bought a Ridgeline for the ride quality!!! If the Ridgeline wasn't offered and I needed a truck I would buy a full size. Honda really needs to think that part through!
Keep the Ridgeline unibody, give it low range and a rear locker, and modernize the frontier with rear coil springs. The New Tacoma rides pretty dang amazing, but... overpriced and reliability issues.
