Hi Rachel. What a beautiful deck! I’ve seen it on Etsy several times and I hesitated buying it, but now I regret it because his shop is on a break. I don’t have the background knowledge on these novels other than Jane Eyre and Frankenstein, which are 2 of my favorites. But all the more reason for me to get the deck because it would be a great gateway for me to learn more about the rest of these stories/characters. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Yes, I hope it’s still available; thats why I left that little disclaimer at the beginning. I filmed this for a friend 🖤 I do hope that you can get the deck! I’m glad you enjoyed my thoughts!
fantastic review and just YASSSS!!! 😂 💯 percent!!! 6 of torches IS Mary Poppins! oh my goodness… thank you so much for ‘that’ 🤣 ‘STEPPIN’ TIME!’ The freakin absolute bestest!! ❤❤❤
TF with Bertha as High Priestess??? I can't get over The Empress looking like Kristen Stewart. Thanks for doing the walk through! Adding it to our playlist now for #gothlitnovember.
Love it! With the high priestess card it certainly fits with the extreme dramatic emotion of gothic literature. We have no quiet high priestess silently seeing and knowing all but the bad woman in the attic burning it all to the ground because she knows the truth of the story and women locked away need to burn the house down . Currently rereading Jane eyre part time I read it I was 15 🖤
Yes, I can definitely see her as the High Priestess in a revisionist’s retelling. 🖤🖤🖤 I hope to reread Jane Eyre next year! Read Villette a short time ago and I have Shirley to read next.
what a gorgeous deck. i've read the bronte sisters ("jane eyre", "wuthering heights" and "the tennant of wildfell hall") a few times with "tennant" being my favorite. i've read "dr. jekyll and mr. hyde" and "the house of the seven gables" and (let's see) "the picture of dorian gray" (looove that one). i've read "the fall of the house of usher". however, i've never read "frankenstein" or "dracula". these days i want to read...mmmm....lighter fare though i still might read "the monk". this deck does seem to be a bit bronte heavy which cannot be a bad thing. is "the legend of sleepy hollow" gothic? read that. oh, by the way, i absolutely thought "mary poppins" 😂
What to add here, I like this deck very much. I definitely purchased it right away with the scarcity aspect of Sirian Shadow's work - and it came out right before Halloween, so the dark ethereal art was key. I do love a bit of Poe and the classic horror included (especially Dorian Gray!). The delicious cardstock notches this one up in the collection. I was afraid the minors might not 'give', but they've got some character. I am thoroughly impressed.
I like it too! I’m in love with the card stock. I’ve been using it just about everyday since filming the video, as a companion to #gothlitnovember. This and my Robert M Place Vampire Tarot which is another excellent literary deck. Anyway, I’m really happy I bought it ♥️
I was wondering if you would get this deck! It really captures the classic Gothic atmosphere, and is right up my alley esthetic-wise! I kept going back and forth on purchasing, as I also love the theme, but ultimately decided to hold off. It was great to hear your impressions, especially with the High Priestess card- one of my favorite Tarot cards and that choice was just too off the mark for me. And, yes, I saw Mary Poppins right away in that Six of Torches 😂 Thank you for doing a walkthrough! 😊🖤🦇🕯️
Yes! I think you might have been the first person to direct me to this deck, and then other people were sending me links, and I felt the pressure 😂 I think the high priestess is an interesting choice but I agree: I don’t see it. I might have placed her in a minor card. Thank you for seeing Mary Poppins 😂 Right??? It’s really a beautiful deck, and I’m happy to own it, so thank you for sharing it with me 🖤
@ I am glad to hear you are enjoying it 😀You were the first person I thought of when I saw it! And I don't think I could unsee Mary Poppins if I had the deck... putting a little cheer into the Goth 😂
I think I’ve read all the books referenced except Marlowe’s version of Faustus and The Monk. I might have to reread Dracula now though, even though it drove me a bit nuts the first time (the oh I may faint/we must protect the delicate fainting girl bits). I like a lot of the associations and quotes he pulled.
Controversial Priestess choice, possibly Mr Rochester wasn't at his wits end, but was something a lot darker. I mean wanting to burn the prison you are kept in, isnt out of bounds. Although that house was possibly way better than a sadistic Georgian(?) asylum. But no, I would be taken out of the moment with that card. It would be jarring. The minors wouldve easily been easy to put such and such scene in blah blah book. They didnt have to go into the same depths as the majors but still. Lovely review though, thank you
Yeah, I could see her as the high priestess through the lens of a revisionist telling of the story. I like the minors, but for whatever reason had different expectations. I didn’t watch any walkthroughs and barely glanced at the cards because I wanted to be surprised, and I was! Lol But I’m really enjoying the deck ♥️

Yeah, and now I’m reading the Cambridge Companion and I’m tempted to pick Dracula up again. It’s a great story, aside from a few things which annoyed me too, like …. Why did they repeatedly leave Lucy alone night after night? Near a window? 😂 That bugged me so much! I still see Mina as one of the biggest heroes of the novel despite certain annoyances.?

I think it only sort of works for me if I view her as the character from Wide Sargasso Sea.
Right? Lol …. I can only see it through a revisionist’s lens.

@@SecondThoughtsAboutTheMission She was a badass with her flying umbrella! I always admired her boots and her chimney sweep chalk land journey
I loved the chalk land journey too! Everything about it ❤ Julie Andrews ❤❤❤ and Feed the Birds still makes me cry 😭
